Hi any idea what would cause my 09 to momentarily cut power while driving down the road. No power steering, stereo blinks and the whole dash notifications light up all just for a second?
+Wild West We wouldn't be able to diagnose an issue like that here, you may want to have a local mechanic take a look at it. Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
2012 honda fit purchased 2 during covid out of fear of high gas to do uber. Best decision ive ever made in my life. I honestly believe gas prices went up to combat the affordability of these vehicles and mpg. Honda fit helped me out of poverty. Thank you designers of fit. You were definitely thinking of the little guys. 💯.
These Fits are the best bulletproof economic vehicle Honda has ever made HANDS DOWN. The best cars for gig work like Uber DoorDash Amazon Flex etc. Kudos to whoever in Honda that came up with the idea of the Fit.
I have a '13 Sport 5 Speed with 84k miles (I know, pretty much a baby). No issues whatsoever, but I also have regular 30k mile interval full services done. This car is rock solid, absolutely perfect.
The GE8 is going to acheive legendary status for reliability one day. The L15A7 engine is a gem. Low power output and an outdated design yes, but dang near bullet proof.
I can confirm just one of the top five problems on my ‘09 with 135k miles - hatch release mechanism due to New England winter salt. Such a solid, well built car.
I bought a brand new '09 Fit Sport (manual transmission) in October of '08, so likely one of the first 500 of this generation purchased in Canada. I rang up 312,000 kms (about 195,000 miles) over the following 10-1/2 years before gifting it to our daughter. She's still driving it and it now has around 350,000 kms racked up in total. I had none of the five issues listed in this video, but I did have the following snags in chronological order: 1. First problem was the paint. It just seemed too fragile, scratching very easily. Mine was the dark metallic blue shade that Honda referred to as "vivid blue". 2. At 153,000 kms (about 96,000 miles) the alternator died. Car was out of warranty but only three years old at that time, so aftermarket parts were not yet a thing for these cars. We were still at the mercy of Honda for most stuff. I called Honda. Replacement new alternator was priced at almost $1300 taxes in. I almost fell out of my chair. I didn't recall seeing "Porsche" stamped anywhere on the outside of that alternator - only Mitsubishi. A friend who knew a starter/alternator dealer did some online research and found a non-Honda-sourced identical new alternator for $460, so I bought that one and installed it myself. 3. At 200,000 kms the oil pressure sender sprung a leak. Replaced with new one, quick and inexpensive, ie:
bought mine at 280 000 km... gone past 300 000 km now. Replaced a coil pack the other day and misfire was solved. i owe it a lot but it keeps going. strong car
Like another Fit owner describes in a comment below, I also solved the tailgate handle problem by spraying WD40 on the pin which the handle rotates around. The handle works great now!! On the axles, I benefited from a recall; they replaced both axles for no charge. I have not experienced the other issues (spark plugs were replaced a few months ago).
Obviously if spraying WD-40 up and around the hinge works, great. But they do get so rusted and cruddy, that doesn’t work. Tried it multiple times. Just last week I switched out the back latch on my 2010 Honda Fit after watching a few RU-vid videos and ordering a $15 latch. Pretty easy and now works great! Hardest part is getting the plastic coverings off without breaking the little plastic connectors. Helps if it’s warm out. If cold, I’d run a hair dryer on it or somehow warm up the plastic.
This car is so much fun to drive and has very few problems. Most of the problems I've had are from natural wear and tear (138k mi.) and living in the rust belt. I love my Fit and will probably drive it until the wheels literally fall off... At which point I will be getting a GK 😂
I have a 2009 Fit, bought it new. Have not had any of these problems but still enjoyed this video in case something comes up. The Fit is my dream car, I had 4 used Accords before I bought my Fit. The tech at Honda of Orem, Utah told me they had a woman bring in a Fit with 300,000 miles for servicing, it was the original engine. Amazing!
I bought a 2011 Fit S brand new. It currently has 220,000+ Miles. My #1 problem has been the fog lights catching rocks/debris on the highway and getting cracked! I have probably replaced each side 4 times! Last year I had the known issue with the electro magnetic A/C clutch. I found videos on here on how to repair so my brother and I attempted that ourselves. It is still blowing cold air a year later. Another common Fit issue I have experienced is the HVAC Fan Capacitor issue(where u lose 1 or more of your “Fan” Speeds) which was another easy fix. Other than those issues, which all were pretty easy fixes. This car is a tiny beast!
Had an 09 Fit Sport 5AT I bought new 09/18/2008 I sold it 03/08/2022 with almost 302,000 miles regular maintenance still blew ice cold AC with the original compressor, the original engine didn't burn or leak oil, and transmission I bought my 2nd Honda Fit a 17 EX-L lease return CPO 12/14/2020 the guy I sold my original Fit to bought it because filling up his 2020 Silverado was breaking his wallet and I really didn't drive it that much so I sold it he's driving that car everywhere and it's still going strong
I was looking at a 2009 automatic honda fit that a guy was selling for his mom. He said she got 39 mpg, no matter how she drove it with that CVT transmission. People have said the automatics getter better gas mileage, because the manuals have such a low 5th gear in the Honda Fit models. They were saying the manuals run at 2800 rpm and the automatics only run at 2200 rpm, but I've never actually test driven one though.
I love my Fit. I've had all those issues except the fule door thing. Wonderful car. My axl snapped while I was waiting for the new part to come in from a recall.
I just replaced mine at 150k miles. I installed a new clutch and flywheel kit. Both never quite were right when I first got it at 40kmiles. I don't think the first owner treated it right. Has she replaced the spark plugs? I had to replace mine twice so far, and ignition coils.
The clutch master cylinder on the manuals and ac compressors are the weak links on this car. Great cars though on my second one .first one had 320k and still ran strong
I have seen 3 of these on my Honda Fit personally. One of the spark plug was really loose, didn’t realize it was from Honda. My axle had the rubber damper and it snapped there because of rust. The tailgate handle has some issues but it was an easy fix and now I just hit the unlock button three times on my key fob for it to open without issues.
Lma springs. Lost motion assembly springs are under recall on 2009 to 2010 models, suprised they did not list this, but still a very reliable great car.
pretty accurate.. i had the liftgate handle problem and cv axles were replaced on recall. mine also had an input shaft bearing noise that seems like its pretty common on the manual transmission models.
I think my input shaft may have begun acting up the last couple months. Not quite sure, but it's pretty much constant when the engine's running. I hope it's something simpler to address...
I have a 2009 Fit...this is the only car to do this but the wipers only work on high speed. I currently have the not working rear hatch also. The car has 290kms on it but runs perfect and drives perfect.
I'm in England, one other you may like to add,in spare wheel storeage part, this can take in water, usually tailgate seal,or,there is a seal around that storage part, not a problem for your dry states, but, thy cant all be dry.We get a lot of wet weather by comparison, and roads are rocksalted in snow.Hope this is of interest.
I just did my scheduled maintenance at 108K miles which included spark plugs. The number 2 spark plug was LOOSE. So that's definitely a thing. If I ignored it for much longer it may have become a problem. That being said this car is by far the greatest vehicle I have ever owned. I've owned 10 passenger vehicles in my lifetime. I've put almost 40k miles on the fit since I bought it at 70k miles
@@hazelstreet1654 Spark plugs are useless after 30k miles anyway. I never had an issue with them being lose on my Fit. I had them on too tight, the spark plugs were seized on.
I've had to replace an engine coil, fan motor, and thermostat on my 2013 Fit, only 96,000 miles so mine might have been one of the few problematic ones
Number 5 for sure, at least for me. I can pull the latch to open the hatch, but then I have to manually press the latch back down so the hatch door can lock lolz. It's been like that for more than a year, just been lazy to fix it. I figured it was dust and salt from the winter that has caused it.
I found the center console with armrest new on e-bay for the Honda Fit for $44. "Rotatable Storage Box Armrest Center Console For Honda Fit Jazz 2009-2013 12 11" Brand: XUKEY. Made in California.
Ive got the 09 sport ge8 haha and man the car is great. Got it with 60k on it and its got 170k now. Replaced the spark plugs yes and my door lock actuator but thats it. Super fun to drive out here in Southern California.
180000 km, no Problems. I replaced "rusty handle axle" by stainless steel axle, I use motorcycle chain greese to keep water off. 1st and 3rd gear synchonisation is getting a bit bad. The engine is very econmical: ~4.8-5 l/100 km in summer, 5.2-5.5 l/100 km in winter
My 2009 Sport just had this problem... the fan blower would only work on speed 4 (high). Found a TB describing a fault with high current draw from the fan motor. This burns out the resistor pack. Fix is a new fan motor and resistor. There are many YT videos on the easy repair.
Re lift gate frozen handle: don't have to replace, examin rusted handle with flash light, give rested handle hinge pin a "rust bust" soaking, manipulate handle to break up rust, wipe up excess rust bust, apply just a bit of medium weight oil to handle hinge pin to lubricate, do the lubrication once a year, no more frozen lift gate handle.
"problems". The only real issue I see here is the front axle. This reminds me of the "problems" on the 7th and 8th gen civics you guys did. It almost seems like you guys are grasping at straws here with these Hondas. lol. Do the 9th gen civics next. Can't wait to see the "problems" on those. haha
I have a 2013 sport. Other than that darn liftgate handle, unfortunately the rear wheel wells don't have the plastic covers leaving the underside of the fenders exposed and they start rusting. 😢
The lift gate handle is a design flaw. It can be disassembled, rust cleaned up, reassembled, and reinstalled in less time than it takes to visit a dealer. The hinge shaft is carbon steel, .... it rusts. A simple fix.
The axle was a recall so they replaced that for me. Airbag too is a recall that was checked. Aside from that the only problem on my fit was the paint peeling off. Im not sure why but its going to be a problem.
I haven’t had any issues, besides the spark plug on cylinder 2 was loose. But that was kinda my fault I did the spark plugs an tighten them by hand with 1/4 turn after snug. Spark plugs came loose after 30kmi. I replaced them with the right torque it’s been 10k miles with no problems. I plan to replace them every 30k miles. Spark plugs are cheap anyways
2012 Fit Sport, 103,000 miles, with no major issues. For a year, when temp dips below 40 deg F, I hear a noise similar to when one tries to start the car with the engine running. It lasts for a second, then is gone until the next cold snap. Could this be the dreaded problem with the variable timing control? Thanks for your great presentation.
There is a recall on the axle not being treated for rust. Having bought mine in Massachusetts it was covered by Honda at no charge. The car just would not go into gear and move. Axle was snapped into. The other big failure is the AC units. There was a class action suit because of the faulty compressors installed on the Fit. I fixed this problem by filling down the center part of the clutch and reinstalling. Been working for two years. The locks are a problem as well if you don't have remote option for unlocking the doors.
Hi Lamar I'm new to fixing cars on my own, so I know this sounds like a stupid question. What do you mean by filling down the center clutch and reinstalling? Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!
Urgent!!! I have noticed on this video below your honda fit there is oil around your gearbox mounting. I have seen this in many honda fit ge models, what might be causing that and also how can it be fixed and is it that urgent or you can use it as is because you never pointed that problem.
This video made me glad that my Fit is a 2008. Yes, it had three recalls so far, but those were minor stuff only. Are these '09-'13 Fits made in Japan, America, or somewhere else?
D I have a 09 Honda Fit with just under 89000 miles. My check engine light is on, I have a P0171 code. So far I've spent over $2500 and the cel comes right back on with a P0171 code. The MAS has been cleaned, throttle body cleaned, front catalytic converter changed, intake gasket changed, egr valve changed, smoke test performed and no vacuum leaks found. Car runs good but my gas mileage has dropped. It's an automatic with a 1.5L engine. Any help or advice from anyone would be appreciated, I can't keep spending and getting no results. Are these bad cars? I bought it new and have taken great care of it. Thanks.
I just had the valve adjustment done on my 2011 Fit at the dealer. It sounds better, runs better, and is more peppy. If it hasn't been done in a while, it's probably due. They told me the valves were way off.
Need the valves adjusted. Very common with these cars. It’s routine maintenance that needs to be done. Shops will try and talk you out of it. Should be around $300
The only problem I've had with my 2011 fit after 200,000 miles is running rough when I forgot to plug the MAF sensor in after changing my air filter....3 times...
You dont have to remove all that intake bs if you just remove the wipe motor and metal cowl piece under the wipers. I ad to hhelicoil my girlfriends first cylinder because it shot the plug out of the block on the highway. It was dangling inside the coil that was still clipped to the harness. The cowl method take maybe an hour, start to finish. Way easier than removing intake nonsense.
That what happened to my 2008 fit check engine flash when I mash gas dealers couldn't find problem I just drive it thanks I will change spark plug and find the torque
Almost every one of these honda jazz / fit i see has a dent in the boot or trunk door . They are made of baking tray metal 🤭 I have the same car , bullet proof 👍 Also I have the dent
My big issue is I live in area with a lot of hills and I can’t even go the speed limit and I have horrible mpg. I get better mileage in my 04 Chevy. If anybody has any advice it would be much apprected
Which cylinder is it thats misfiring? I assume the check engine light is on no? Scan the car for trouble codes and list every single code that is currently active, report back to here 👍
