I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4.7. I have had it 7 years and it is my baby. These are some common issues. Oil leaks, sensor issues, thermostat, and normal wear n tear. Breaks, battery normal stuff. I love this jeep. It has started in negative 1 degrees and over 100 degrees. They are work horses. This year of jeep is amazing. They also need routine maintenance at this age.

We had one, bought new in 2005, and had up until 2016, put 211k miles on it with the 4.7L V8. It never let us down, but we did experience some problems that caused us to put a few thousand into it (front differential, radiator, and EGR valve which is located at the back of the engine bay near the throttle body) the last 2 or 3 years we owned it.

My 5.7 hemi had a thermostat stick closed. It built enough pressure to burst a heater hose and drain all the coolant. Those 5.7s can be tricky enough to bleed all the air out of the cooling system. But mine had a significant air bubble in the heater core that did not want to come out. It's all worked out now but definitely took some doing. 👍🇺🇲

Too help your ignition switch from going bad cause it’s sometimes a process to fix gotta take most the car apart to get at them but try not to have more then you need on your keychain. I just have my car keys and the key for my gas cap because the weight of the keychain puts downward pressure on the ignition and usually causes the tumblers inside to ware out making it had to start or even stay running. It’s a simple thing we all can do only carry the necessary keys you need.

I guess I'd call myself a RU-vid Mechanic, thanks to all of the resources. So here's my top 5...2009 JGC, 90K miles. 1. Starters 3 starters replaced, 1st was worn out, 2nd was faulty, 3rd is still working. I can replace these in 15 min now that I'm a pro. Pro tip. If your working on the ground, jack up front passenger side tire higher, it moves arm out of the way, making it easier to slip out starter so you don't have to remove drive shaft or struggle. 2. Water Pump Another easy 20 min job. Hardest part was cleaning the coolant out of the engine bay. I changed serpentine belt too. 3. Throttle body Harder than it needed to be, took about 2 hours to remove and replace. Turns out the connector was bad. 4. Leaking Sunroof Check for videos tips to clean the drains. I modified a plastic ice maker water line to fit an air gun. Works great to snake the whole way down. Flood with degreaser and rinse with clean water. I've been spraying drains with WD40. Didn't solve problem, I don't think glass seals right to the gasket. 5. Rear shaft seal Tough do do without a lift, and hard to remove the old seal with totally destroying it... Pro tip...in two different locations, tap both sides of casing with a punch to guide realignment before disassembly.

@jefferybaxter1225
@jefferybaxter1225 2 года назад
As for the oil leaks it could be coming from the valve cover. Maybe he needs new valve cover gaskets or need both the valve cover gasket and valve cover. Oil leak could be coming from the oil pan itself. He might need a new oil pan gasket or a new oil pan if the leak is from the oil pan due to rust build up over the years.

I have Jeep 2005 for the last 11 years. Had a problem with the starter once (about 8 or 9 years back). Fixed it by cleaning a cable contact on the starter: there was nothing wrong with the starter itself. And had a problem with the thermostat (twice - both permanently closed and then permanently open). BTW didn't have to disconnect the hose if it was OK, it was sufficient to remove two bolts on the hosing and move it aside with the hose still connected - saves some grief.

After replacing the fuel pump Im now having a problem with a vapor lock and my new pump is making a ringing/humming noise off and on-is there a way to fix it with a inline check valve or inline filter of some sort. I have to release pressure on the fuel rail to re-crank it after it runs for more than 20 minutes/ which is a possible fire risk.

The WK is far more practical than a Wrangler, it's my trusty XJ replacement, and I've had 3 of those in the past. 16 years later my WK is my longest ever owned vehicle I've driven on a daily basis. With minimal drama or failures, it has never let me down, or left me stranded or even needed a tow truck (yet). All potential repairs are preceded by a subtle noise/clunk warning or an OBD2 code, so you at least can get it fixed before the event occurs. Nothing like preventative maintenance.

I replaced the starter around 100,000 miles. I've replaced SEVERAL thermostats. Granted I'm not running the stock stat, but 180 degree (cooler) ones from auto parts stores. Replaced water pump at 120,000 miles. New brakes/rotors at 125,000. New radiator, fan, hoses at 130,000. New front wheel bearings at 145,000 miles. Thermostat housing at 160,000. I have 170,000 miles now. Long term issues is underbody rust from winters in the midwest winter salt roads (my rockers have rusted away), intermittent electrical gremlins like dash likes flickering (I've had my ignition switch replaced/recalled), and the TMPS and back-up sensors giving errors intermittently on the dash display. But they work most of the time.

Have 4.7 '05 (Canadian) for 11 years and still going (215k miles). Things that went bad: - EGR valve replaced 3 times - Radiator plastic side tank cracked - replaced (also thermostat and both hoses while there) - Exhaust manifolds bolts broke on both sides causing exhaust leaks - twice - Front differential mounts - Both front half-axles - Both UCAs - Both Lower ball joints - Oil pressure sensor - Leaking transmission cooler lines - Ignition switch - Blender door actuator (passenger side) - Driver window sliding off the track - Leaking sunroof - Blower motor resistor - Starter has issues described in video - Front driveshaft grease leaked out - rebuilt the rear side with special kit - Transmission shifter (had to be cleaned) - Left multifunction switch contacts need cleaning every few years (dashboard flickering) - Windshield washer nozzles go very frequently - Backlight for radio/buttons gone - AC leaked out - condenser cracked - Rear differential becomes noisy over time - A LOT of rust underside and wheel arches. All I can remember at the moment. I'm not a mechanic but fixed/replaced all of this myself, except rear diff (too hard / expensive to fix). Precisely followed service intervals. Its easy to find factory service manual online, it has all you need to know. Forums and videos like this have tons of info. Haynes manual for this car is useless. Towing capacity is great, you can pull a trailer or boat. This Jeep shines in winter, feels very stable and solid on snow. Overall very reliable and enjoyable vehicle, looks great and pulls strong. If I had to go back 11 years I would still buy it without a second thought. Now these Jeeps cost nothing, parts are dirt cheap - great SUV on budget. Small mods made life easier: K&N reusable air filter, engine oil drain valve, transmission pan with drain plug (original does not have one, which make tranny service super messy).

I have 2008 WK, the biggest issue has been the water pump, on the 4th one, fails at about 30k miles and start leaking, I have had problems with the starter but it was only the ground wire, you need to clean the spade terminal and put dielectric grease on it, no problem since. Its best to take off the throttle body to clean the backside, its only 4 bolts, torque them to spec when re-installing. The piston seals in all the calipers start going bad at around 5 years, you can check this by jacking up the wheel and see if it turns freely, you can also check the rotor temps after driving with infrared thermometer, they should all be close in temps.

You just reminded me of when I owned my WK and the water pump failed within 30k miles or something. Warranty covered it and replaced it with a better pump. The old one had a plastic impeller, while the new one had a metal one. Bad design for sure.

Another note on the starter problem. That yellow signal wire is too tight and was finding if I moved back and forth I would crank right up. Spliced the wire and redid connection and been rolling for 1yr+ now.

As soon as I plant my foot when still holding second going up towards 4000 it comes in. It sounds like it’s coming from the vent box thinga majig in the rear corner of the rear bumper. The first problem I ever had on my jeep was the code po301 which is cylinder 1 misfire and the shop did my spark plugs and cleaned my injectors and tune up and still got the stalling problem and same code and found out coil pack cylinder 1 is bad and also got that replaced last summer,and recently got new radiator last winter,and kept the oil change and other than that it runs smooth and had the jeep for 2 years

I have a 2007 limited with 5.7 hemi engine with 212,705 miles on it the real problem about this type of model are the inside door handles are plastic and they break make it hard to get out of the vehicle meaning that you have to roll down and open it from the outside which I'm surprised that Chrysler and jeep never have a recall that could end up being a death trap if anyone cannot get out cause of a fire or collision or stuck underwater and I know some of you have experienced something like this in your Jeep model from 2005 to 2010 and praying that it would never come to someone's getting hurt or death to have something in the news to get their attention

Cool Video!! I like the soft-spoken mechanic doing the presentation. Although my 2009 Jeep Cherokee doesn't have any of these issues, it does have an "unknown problem" that no mechanic has yet to figure out. When I am slowed down and ready to make a turn off the highway and into the post office or a fast food parking lot, etc (or just coasting out of a parking space, moving about 5 mph), when I turn the steering wheel almost all the way to the left there is a horrendous cracking sound!! I had the rack and pinion replaced, had the vehicle aligned. It was suggested a U-bolt may need to be replaced? Or bearings? I'm mechanically-challenged so I don't have a clue. I put a little money into it but don't want to keep buying more parts for an issue the service people are only guessing at. The cracking sound is SO LOUD and AUDIBLE, I've witnessed people walking on a nearby sidewalk literally run for cover!!! (My 15 year old said it sounds like a shotgun blast). I really like this Jeep; will ride it until the wheels fall off. (LOL).
@aelfwealld
@aelfwealld 2 года назад
I’m a bit challenged too. But, I’m learning as much as I can so I can do repairs and stuff myself. I’m not sure how many things it could be but it sounds like it could possibly be a bearing. With it only happening while turning that should narrow it down. Can you get under there and look at it? Have someone turn your wheel to see if anything is catching under there. It would also narrow it down a bit more if it only does it while turning it one way and not the other. I know this probably isn’t too much help but what i’d suggest is joining a group specifically for Jeep’s. Lots of people are willing to help. Try Facebook or Reddit groups. There may be some groups specifically for the wk’s. If not just look up Jeep Grand Cherokee groups. Good luck, hopefully you get it resolved!

i wish someone like this could look over mine because everyone i take my jeep to dosent know whats going on when i first start my 06 jeep grand cherokee sounds like the fan is spinning very loud and fast after u give it some gas for a lil while it eventually stops going goes back to normal, when its normal it drives fine shifts fine nothing wrong, but when the fan is spinning like crazzy it has a hard time shifting gears some times it hits 5500rpms before shifting almost into the red thats only on the first to second gear after that it shifts fine and fan goes back to normal for the rest the gears. A while back my thermostat went bad and i replaced it didnt fix the issue so i then replaced the water pump and then the overheating stopped then this problem started 2 weeks after truck isnt over heating. idk what to do its been months now that my jeep has been acting like this and i cant figure out what to do to fix the issue can someone please help me out. it has the 4.7L V8 truck only has 76000 miles i barily drive it just back and forth to work thats it i change the oil like im suppose to i take care of my vehicle but i cant figure out this issue.
