Coming from Montreal and Ottawa in 93, London used to be a beautiful sun belt small city with a big heart. Jobs were plentiful, rent and home ownership was affordable. In the last 10 years things have gotten messed up. It’s across the country and arguably all of North America. Drugs, crime, inflation, manufacturing shutdowns have increased to saturation. I guess London was sheltered from it for decades but it’s here now and we all have to work our way through it. I still wouldn’t live anywhere else because London is eclectic, its growing, it’s an hour from the best beach sunsets in the world, a couple of hours from Niagara Falls and it’s still a short drive to country farms that set a kinder tone to a harsh moment in time. Thanks for the video spotlights though. These are well done videos

36 years- winters are dragged out not to cold tho. 25 degree celsius temp flux are not uncommon in 12 hrs. you can get across the city pretty fast... at 3 am. public transportation mid day of work week would take hours. and east end to west end can take 30 mins or more." homeless" have exploded into neighbors and suburbs that have never seen them before ever.every end of town "homeless" ppl have moved into river camps and any public wooded area.

London traffic is terrible 4 months later. during rush hour is painful driving because it is stop and go. there are only 2 or 3 main arterial roads that run north south and even east west. the homeless are spreading across the city. i live in south london and i see them in the area all the time. east london has shootings. expensive housing markets are home for drug houses now like in hydepark and comissioners rd. the cold weather does last sometimes from september until may. cold weather to me is under 10C when its windy. if you enjoy expensive housing markets and 1.5months of hot summer and lots of cold windy days come on over to london.

Fun fact for londoners, in regards to traffic. A coworker and I often finish work at the same time. She drives from summerside to close to Gainsborough and Hyde park to go home. I bus from Sumerside to white oaks ( plus a bit of a walk because east to west anything south of downtown is a nightmare!).. it takes us the same amount of time to get home and she said that most of her HOUR AND A HALF drive is sitting in traffic. AN HOUR AND A HALF for something that if you had 0 traffic would be like 25-30 mins.. and on my end. Why with taking one of the most major bud lines in the city is it taking me 1.5 hours from when I leave work to actually be home.. when an Uber is about 15mins. Pissed me off so much when the transit company basically just gave themselves a bunch of money and upgraded their building and said it was because they tried and tried and spent all they could to improve the system (they changed like 3 lines to adjust the time they arrive and everyone I know who busses now finds it’s taking even longer to get home. )

I lived in London for 43 years and it wasn’t until I was in the rural US for a few months that I realized how messed up London is. The mention of used needles hits home, I stepped on one five years ago in Victoria park and had to go through several months of treatment for hepatitis C. Rent has gotten out of control as well as food prices. My family has a comfortable life here in Arkansas but if we were basically in London we’d be struggling and borderline homeless. Now that I’ve left Canada I can see it’s problems with an outside perspective and the country I was born and lived in most of my life is dying. It’s sad.

Ya sure pal, Arkansas is ranked 45th out of 50 states. It's 49th in crime 47th in healthcare and 38th in education and you think London's dying? I'm not sure you know the meaning of the word "dying" but it's what happens if you need an expensive lifesaving procedure in an Arkansas hospital and don't have the money to pay for it.
@chemistryofquestionablequa6252

The biggest issue I have with London is that none of the main roads connect, like you can't just take a side street to try and avoid some of the busy traffic, because none of them connect back to the main roads. And the transit is ok if you're going to or from downtown, or to fanshawe or western. But anywhere else and add like 20-30 minutes on to what it would take to drive there. From my old place near cherryhill it was faster to bike to masonville mall than to take the bus.

@@beckyosas8364 Hi Becky We are working on two videos about Ottawa right now. One with pros and one with cons. We hope to have them out in the middle of January. Both cities would be great for raising a family. Ottawa is more than twice the size of London and has a lot of government jobs. Both have great schools and hospitals. Ottawa has more museums and art galleries and festivals. The winters are warmer in London. Do you prefer bigger cities or smaller? Do you like cold weather?
@Smlucas1189

@@beckyosas8364 Having lived in both, either is fine for raising kids in terms of opportunities and education. Ottawa is a much larger city when you take in the surrounding areas including the Quebec side. Being the capital a lot more of the jobs require English/French bilingualism then you will find in London. Ottawa is Government and High Tech as the major employers. London is Hospitals and Universities/Colleges. A number of the large manufacturing jobs have left London like Ford and Kellogg's, but a number of smaller ones are opening all the time it seems. Housing is tough in both markets, but that is the times rather then locations.

I lived in London in the 1980s (well outskirts of London in boarding school) and it was a nice little town. Downtown was not run down and was a vibrant shopping area. There were very few homeless people or drug addicts. Winters weren't bad and London use to get a fair bit of snow, which I loved. In terms of temperature during winter, London wasn't that bad (I've lived in Montreal and Ottawa, which were much colder). London had a vibrant nightlife for a city of its size - there were a couple of clubs: Notes, Penrods/Ichabods; and a number of university bars: The Ceeps, Call the Office, the Bavarian, Ridout, and GTs on Richmond) UWO parties were off the hook (Saugeen residence made into Playboy's top 10 party college residences in North America). What London lacked was diversity in restaurants (Fatty Patty's was terrible lol). It's a shame to hear that London has gone downhill.

I live in London, England and was interested to see if the pros and cons of Ontario differ from our version of London. The main difference is the Ontario version is clean and tidy (in the main) which cannot be said for England. Also, you seem to have affordable housing to buy! Wow, we don't even have the unaffordable kind. However, the transport is good here. You don't even need a timetable, you just turn up and go. It's not cheap, though. My main incentive to keep living here is the music on offer. The gigs are fantastic.

Odd that the city will spend big to keep the opera house open but won't spend one nickle to help struggling venues , LMC and Call the Office were 2 iconic landmarks , great musicians from all over the world would come to London just hang out at LMC, I knew Pete very well great guy never asked for anything from anyone and always helped others and the city thanks him for not just offering a stage but a community for musicians and music lovers .

I don't enjoy how fast London's population is growing. Traffic on the roads has seemingly doubled in the past three years. I'm regularly seeing traffic jams in places I've never seen jams before. You mention safety of walking downtown or around people using drugs.. To be completely honest I don't feel safe wandering around anywhere in London .. down town or not.. I definitely wouldn't trust walking our trails in the late evening or anytime at night. Same as I don't feel safe parking my vehicles ANYWHERE without having them broken into for the change in the cupholder or a few cds. I can't understand how the rent and housing market has skyrocketed so badly around here, it's actually discouraging. I do agree the downtown is getting increasingly ran down, I don't ever remember it as being pretty to look at but it's definitely not getting any nicer. Cold winters is irrelevant in my opinion.. That's just a part of Canadian climate , and here has actually been very mild lately. Snow doesn't stick around like it used to .. But that's just my two cents worth ! I do believe you made a great video here. Lots of great footage, you did capture London well.

I grew there. Relatively safe for a city of it's size. I ski, fly fish, hike and do a lot of outdoor stuff. Not that there isn't some nice outdoor area's but it is very flat - surrounded by farming and the fishing is not good (particularly trout fishing). There are a surprising number of fish in the Thames river but it gets pretty warm and skanky in the summer - you will see shopping carts and I just never felt like it was a clean river. The biggest problem I had was that I went to an east end school and there was a bit of a dark undertone of biker, drug activity, strip clubs etc. I lived on the fringes of this and that is my own problem but I just wanted away from that. Collingwood works much better for me. It is a well to do community so there are a ton of amenities and entertainment without traffic. If you like the outdoors you have hills, forests, rivers, beaches and Georgian Bay right in your back yard. like any town, it has it's problems with affordability and drugs however for better or worse it is largely out of sight out of mind.

No jobs in here. I am trying to find part time job as student, none. It's like I am just one of the people trying to apply and is just a number and it sucks when I don't know someone for a referral. I want to save up abit too, but also looking at the environment, theres alot of homeless people I think this just means there arent much jobs in here to sustain them plus high rent, high prices, drugs , more people, it is probably like a battle royale out here, I hope I can find job soon. Or I pray for better days that economy improve and everyone lives an ok life.

I grew in San Diego by my parents grew in Southern Ontario after the Vietnam war. So mainly my family lives there. I been there many times. I definitely recommend to live in Northern London instead of Downtown or Southern. The north part of the city is safer and cleaner. I agree that it is very expensive but winters are mildly cold but summers are super hot and humid. It feels hotter than San Diego’s summer.

unfortunately, I live in london. I was born and raised here, and as a blind person, I feel this city's very unfriendly. ok, we have the CNIB, like alot of canada, but I just feel that it is. you can agree, or disagree, as you're entitled to your opinion just like I'm entitled to mine. I'm saying that to the many people who might comment differently. but, I won't get started on why I've grown to hate it here, as the list is too long.

The only reason I agree with you on is traffic.For a city this size there is no reason why London should not have a ring road around the city to ease. congestion. City planning is horrendous in London. They will approve huge high rises 40 feet apart, way too close. There’s homeless everywhere, especially on the Thames Vally Parkway, a beautiful path system, and in my opinion the best thing about London, ruined by camps, and the police don’t do anything. The downtown is ugly, boring and offers nothing. There’s some nice neighborhoods in London though. Traffic can be brutal especially in rush hour.

I love the cold the colder, the better , as to other issues your right , we have other issues not mentioned , Like a woke bird city counsel , they want to paint a rainbow flag on every corner , Major disorganization it cant sustain the people already here , its over crowed , Hospitals over crowed 24 hours just to be seen , mostly due to overpopulation and city not willing to try and reduce the population , its turning into a parking lot with unaffordable condos , and all the roads being dug up that didn't need any maintenance in the first place , city buses they change the routes and don't give any information on where the alternate stop is , even if they say go to another stop usually it's not the correct one , and when it is its so far out of your way you might as well just call a Checker, also they change the routes on the dime which means you could be waiting at the stop for 2 hours before you realize the stop is out of service . It gets even better the cops are arrogant and thing their cheap pice of tin give them the righ to do what they want . If you want to do something downtown after 6pm good luck as the only to-do is go to the bar and get gibbled , Even Tim Hortons closes after 6pm , in the down town core , And yes the homless , the city counsel would rather argue about whose turn it is to buy the coffee then to get anything done. If your looking to live somewhere, stay way from London.

Canada should lead the charge close the boarders to immigration send anyone who has come here in the past 10 back to where they game from , stop paying out baby bonuses but charge a tax for each kid someone has , China took steps to reduce the population to bad they didnt keep it up

From the London Free Press: The average price for a one-bedroom apartment in London hit $1,730 per month in April, a nearly 28 per cent increase from the same month in 2022, a report released by online rental listing giant Rentals.ca states. The only place with a. greater increase was Brampton.
