These are great tips! I just started a RU-vid golf channel and the first video actually took off well but since then it seems to be slowing down. It had me feeling discouraged however you are right this is just a hobby. I need to set better expectations and just have fun and try and get better at this.
Great video Dave. Definatly the hardest part is just geting started. Once you make the first video you will want to make another one better. No matter what a person does there first video will be their worst. You just have to get over that first bump. I also started on a phone filming amd editing everything. Now im running 3+ cameras, a drone, and editing in davinci resolve on pc. Makeing my golf channel has been one of the best things I've done for my golf game tho. It's got me to play coast to coast in America and I've made so many friends on this platform.
I have just started. I live in Ontario Canada and play to a 8 or 9 handicap. I am trying to get better and your video has helped me understand a lot. Thank you for your help❤.
Great tips Dave. I remember when you took a break and then came back. It was very quickly after that when you got monetized it seemed. Kudos for seeing it thru the rough patches, slow growth and hair pulling moments we all have on this platform.
Spot on mate! After that break I just said to myself, it’s now or never, give it a red hot crack and if it doesn’t pan out I can say I have it my all. Seeing the growth you had through last year is the inspiration to keep pushing!
@@ForetoFourGolf well deserved on your part. Your content is a step above and your personality is infectious. Keep on being you… as if you had a choice right?!!
Great stuff Dave! Definitely agree the being on camera part is the weirdest and most nerve wracking thing ever. My first video I couldn’t get a word out sometimes and just sat there looking at the camera mute haha. Honestly still my least favorite part of the whole process, though getting more and more comfortable every video. Also videoing while playing is SO MUCH harder than I was expecting when I started. Definitely something most people probably don’t realize starting off, know I definitely didn’t.
Some really great tips Dave! I also started out using my phone. My first edits were done on the basic windows editer, after I learned the basics then moved onto Shotcut, then I outgrew that and current use Davinci Resolve. I learned so much along the way. I think the most important part of starting a RU-vid channel is just to start.
@@ForetoFourGolf Sometimes it can seem overwhelming. Either way both are free to use so worst case just go back to whatever works better for you. The videos you produce are done so well not sure why you would want to switch.
Brilliant video Dave. One thing I have learnt recently is you need a snappy thumbnail to draw people in. I haven't subscribed to tube buddy and quite frankly I do not have the computer skills to create stuff. When I do go out and film I'm aware that I need a still frame for the thumbnail so I try and find a situation where I think this is going to be the thumbnail shot. As to talking to camera. I can do that now just as long as there is no-one within 400 miles of me. I'm just so self concious it's impossible! Great vid.
What I do for the thumbnail is to play the vid and pause it on a shot which I like enough. Thereafter I use a snipping tool to create the picture and then edit this with the text. 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
Thanks mate - thumbnails are huge! I heard in a podcast (yeah i am that guy that listens to science podcasts) that we make a visual decision in 0.4 secs. If that isn't testament to how important your thumbnail is...I don't know what could be
You are a wise man. Loved hearing your top tips and sharing that you’re monetized. You’re the man! Hope you’re well brother. The bit about pushing crap uphill as an amateur golf youtuber had me cracking up 😂
Thanks for the video. As a new channel, this is great information to share. I appreciate you. Oddly enough, a lot of my views, come from your part of the world! Cheers and keep it up.
@@ForetoFourGolf you are welcome. As a new channel I can appreciate what you are doing. I think you genuinely want to help people. And that’s why I wanted to say thanks.
Great video, Dave! I'm looking at using a laptop editing software, as have always just used splice on my phone, but i find it very fiddly. Thanks for sharing these tips! I hope you're well
Aside of the practical things (audio rules and is even dominant to ny opinion) being your general self is key. I have of course a niche and thus am not targeting the general masses. That has influence on the growth expectations. Great vid. 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
I'm a fellow Filmora user, I think it does all I need it to do at this point. I film mainly on a GoPro, but occasionally use an iPhone too. Would love to get a drone at some point, it just adds that special element. Anyway, great video! Keep up the great work, looking forward to seeing you continue to grow your channel.
Thanks mate! I completely forgot about the drone, that will have to go on the 201 level video list! Yeah filmora is awesome, very powerful and with the addon effects via subscription it should have me covered for a while
Great advice Dave, how good is the range on the shotgun? I’ve got 2 of the dji wireless mics would I still need these if I bought a shotgun mic? Thanks for the advice
Great video Dave been working on my ginger stash channel and yeah what you said teaching yourself how to do certain things through the editing process that’s the part that can feel daunting at times great job and if your in Indiana let’s make a video together always the best
That’s great to hear! I lived on the Gold Coast for a couple of months but didn’t play golf at the time, but I’m definitely planning a trip either this or next year. Some great options over there!
Hey mate thanks for the video. I’m currently using an iPhone XR. Pretty good quality from it for now. I do need a moment and one that plugs into the phone will be on the cards. I also need a larger tripod. I have a short one that results in shots from ground level. I want to start using shot tracer so want to record from higher up.
I used an XR for about 9 months, nothing wrong with it at all! Shoots in 4K if you want it, and is super reliable. It's a learning process for me with this new camera, I have scuppered 2-3 videos because of mistakes i have made!
At the time of making this video the animated pop-ups were built within filmora and saved as a template for me to re-use. Shot tracers all via the Shot Tracer Pro app for Mac/PC (not the mobile app)
Nice video. I constantly go back and forth mentally between “this would be fun” and being horrified at myself for thinking the world needs another RU-vid golf channel, and particularly one starring me. In the end I always settle on enjoying the fruits of other’s labor and continuing my golf struggle in private (mostly).
Aww should do it from time to time just for some fun, if anything for you and your buddies. Think you’re be surprised how much people just like watching golf and just seeing different personalities
Make me a promise, record one video, and share it with me if you don't feel comfortable sending it to the world. I would be more than happy to give you some tailored tips!
Well done mate 👊🏼 Great guidance to get started. I just need to find an editor. My time is super high/minute. The perfectionist in me gets bogged down. 😩
Haha mines through the roof too, last video was almost 60 hrs for 12 min video haha. Though editing is my favorite part of the whole process (yes I’m a sadistic person haha) so I don’t mind it and partly why I started it a channel in the first place haha.
I know we have talked about that in the past mate! I've learned to let it go to a degree, try to template things as much as I can, but the downside to my approach is I don't produce the hollywood intro's I see in your content and people like Chilli Dippa
