and in online, having situational awareness at the end of series a funding, he instantly realizes that the deal might be a setup. because how tf does the buyer know his name?
The video mentions the stealth at the trailer park he blew up but he also used stealth to take down the airfield full of bikers and to take out the Oneils unless you the player chose the dumb tactic.
Also Michael is the only one who can make fun or joke around with Trevor without being killed we saw what happened when Franklin laughed at him for tripping over
At that time trevor was in a heightened aggression state. Same with johnny. Johnny has confronted him before and lived, but because he did it after Trevor was angry, Trevor took it too far
Some of the most intelligent people I’ve ever met are absolutely bonkers, most with schizophrenia/schizophrenic like mental illnesses or autists that are waaaaay out there.
When I first started playing this game, Micheal was my favorite character, since I found his demeanor and style really cool. Now that I’m older, I love Franklin and Trevor a lot more. Franklin is the classic GTA protagonist moving up the criminal ranks. My favorite thing about Trevor is how his insanity hides how much of an experienced criminal he is.
@@starlaixystarHaving an anime pfp is the most cringe thing on this planet and means you have no friends and deeply moronic but ok you were younger. I get it.
Fun fact: you actually CAN call Lester after Scouting the Port if you type his phone number. Unfortunately the call is some kind of leftover cut content since the nurse that picks up the phone, to tell Trevor that Lester was doing a treatment, does not have any voice acted lines but the subtitles will still be there
You know what actually makes me sad ? Is the fact that Rockstar was aware of the anniversary and made an entire event about it in GTA Online but they completely ignored GTA 4 15th anniversary few months ago, they didn't even talk or post anything about it, this is just sad...
As others mentioned, Trevor's madness served to obscure his smartness which makes other characters underestimate his intelligence. A quote from Hamlet comes to mind: "Though this be madness, yet there is method in it."
It reminds me of the Joker from the Dark Knight. He always has a plan and a backup, yet viewers seriously fell for his "Do I look like a guy with a plan?" line despite seeing so much evidence that he isn't just some crazy improviser.
When you told #5 I thought you would mention the union depository in the subtle approach When the bank manager was figuring out the amount of money the golds are worth together Trevor figured it out fast
21:23 This right here is where Trevor is smart. He knows that Micahel is full of crap and lied about Brad. Remember how mad he was when he remembered what Michael said "You forget a thousand things everyday, make sure this is one of them" he heard that statement on the news after the Jewerly Heist. Trevor knew something fishy was going on and he wanted to question Michael about it. Up until this point Michael had been dodging questions, trying to shift the topic, and trying to act like what he did over a decade ago is in the past and should move on, but Trevor sitll wanted answers so in this mission "Bury the Hatchet" he really did question Michael and then once he started figuring out that someonelse was burried in his place thats when he gots mad and goes to North Yankton to confirm his suspicions. Turned out that it was Brad who was buried in Micahel's grave. Also noticed how Trevor doesn't pull the trigger to kill Michael. He may have lied to him and betrayed him but he's known Michael for a long time. Even though he doesn't show it deep down he still cares about Micahel as a friend even though its very rough.
He couldn't kill him, so he left him at the mercy of the Chinese cartel. It's an extremely complicated friendship and simultaneously both a weak and strong one.
The reason why Trevor was easily able to figure Debra out without ever meeting her is because he has C-PTSD. He recognized himself in Floyd, which is why he liked him so much. The only difference is how they cope with trauma. Trevor became dominant to hide his insecurities, while Floyd remained submissive. Both had an abusive mother. It's pretty clear from Floyd's demeanor that he has unresolved mommy issues and that he repeated this pattern with Debra.
He trained to fly for the airforce if you drive slow to Los santos on whatever that mission is called, he tells most of his backstory as a guy called Trisha to Wade and he mentioned learning to fly for the air force and before he was allowed to fly professionally he was discharged because a witch is Psychological evalutions said he was unstable and grounded him.
It's inaccurate to call Trevor a psychopath since he had quite a strong thing for Patricia through the main story. Brad by definition was a total psychopath because he loved killing in cold blood for the hell of it. Trevor is deranged, sure but he definitely ain't insane. There's a difference between a Sociopath and a Psychopath.
Trevor is impulsive and emotional, but is definitely highly intelligent, which makes him so terrifying. I mean, he takes out an entire faction of The Lost motorcycle club by himself. Straight guerilla warfare. He does make mistakes time to time because of his rage and his tendency to kill at will, anytime, anyplace, anyone, but it doesn't mean he's not intelligent. And he has that street smarts. He has strong gut instincts and can smell bullshit and sense when something is awry right away. Him and Michael were the perfect duo, as Trevor says, Michael had the pragmatism and planning, Trevor had the nerve and the balls to actually go through with the execution of heists and even committing murder if he had to.
He took out everyone in Sandy Shores that could compete with him, the lost, the Oneils and the Aztecas. He also took on a private army and mugged them off for shits and giggles.
Well Trevor telling Floyd that Debra doesn't love him at the start seemed more like emotional manipulation to me instead of him actually figuring it out.
@24:00 To start with, Michael's dream of Picket Fences and pets with a family that hates him and turning on his crew to get it but when Wade and Trev are going to LS, Trev is telling Wade a story that sounds like that after Trev met Brad, they were starting to worry about Michael not performing up to par and what they should do with him. Michael got the drop.
Also in that port mission, Trevor puts up an Italian accent because in the GTA universe, dock workers have affiliations with the italian mob. This also an indicator of his intellect and experience when it comes to planning heists.
I love how Trevor gets labeled crazy and dangerous despite the fact every GTA protagonist is a self-interested serial killer. Michael acts like killing security guards for money is morally superior to Trevor killing people because he's bored and or they offended him. And yet, Trevor's the one who treats his friends like gold, while Michael ditches his friends to save his own ass. First time through, I thought Trevor was crazy. After multiple plays I can see that Trevor has a weird and unconventional, but rock solid moral compass.
the family aspect is what makes it a little different although I see your point. Michaels selfish actions towards his friends are directly correlated with his selfless actions to protect his family. As we see through the game Michael still has that addictive thrill of the criminal life he just had to restrain it due to the protection of the wife and kids. Michael has a motive, as terrible as he might be at the motive (I.E not being good at raising said kids/keeping a good marriage) he still has that instinct to protect and keep his family out of danger. If Michael never met Amanda he would have never done what he did in North Yankton, the same way I think Trevor would have done something similar if he had a family to look after. Either way both are phenomenally written characters with their own personal flaws and methods as to why they are the person they are.
@@MichaelJordanBelfort see my point is, keeping Michael's family safe is no one's responsibility besides Michael's. It's bullshit for him to say he had no choice, he had to fuck his buddies over to keep his family safe. One, having a family as a criminal was his and Amanda's choice, and two, Amanda and the kids would have been fine if Michael was in prison or dead. Michael being in prison really only affects Michael. We don't give felons and murderers sweetheart deals because they have a spoiled rotten family. Michael is 100% being a manipulative dick every time he brings them up as reason for what he did.
@@Quinn-lk8ls what part of the game is there remorse? Aside from the security guard in the first mission of the game, Michael doesn't say anything about all the people he killed. In fact, when he comes out of retirement he's happy. Speaking of, he came out of retirement because he attempted to kill/maim his wife's Tennis coach. As for him "protecting his family", he puts them at risk more than anything. Creating the family as a criminal is insanely selfish, then using said family to sell out all you fellow criminals isn't "the moral thing to do" either. Then we can see in numerous points how Michael's anger puts them in more danger, eg going to the boat Tracy is on and making a scene (which was such a predictable outcome that Jimmy was able to manipulate it into happening). I could go on. I'm not saying any of this to make people dislike Michael, but to see him as a flawed person like the other characters. Next to one in GTA is actually "moral", despite my hyperbole. Also, Michael isn't prideful? That's like his schtick. He spends the whole game mentoring Franklin, which he wouldn't do if he wasn't proud of his criminality.
@@datgurl12121 he regrets the whole north Yankton heist going loud because it led to unnecessary death. That’s a huge part of his ideology when it comes to heists is for there to be no unnecessary death; jewel store, and UD show this. He could have easily killed the guarded harassing Franklin, and the guard they let go in the big score. Michael may be proud of his stealing but not of killing. So while I think both of their actions are morally terrible, Michael (canonically) doesn’t go out of his way or enjoy killing people like Trevor does
The reason Trevor took Mr. K to the airport is twofold. By saving him, Steve Haines will be pressured to keep Trevor alive because he's the only lead to Mr. K's location. Steve wouldn't be able to just end Trevor and let Mr. K stay loose. It's the classic "you can't kill me because I'm the only one who knows your guy" type of blackmail.
sure trevor is smart and that is cool or whatever, but it was a real dumb move of him to not want to steal a truck full of pineapples. you know how much he would make from just cutting up the pineapples and spreading them across a bunch of pizzas, then calling them hawaiian pizza? he would probably make more from it than his illegal operations, and just from stealing one truck full of pineapples.
Professional. You cutting off the bus at the airport was the most New York shit I've seen you do. That made me giggle for a moment after seeing you play so neat dude. 😂 😭
Would there be enough to have a Top 5 Dumbest Things Michael Has Done? Two of them would be pulling down the deck of that home in the Vinewood Hills without bothering to see who the real owner is, and also using his quote to the parking guy during the Vangelico Heist which tips off Trevor like Dave predicted. I could also say hiring the wrong crew members for heists, but that's more of the player's choice
Great analysis. From what I think of Trevor, hes the type that wont ever do a deal with a sworn enemy and instead finish them off right away when there is a chance. If he was in Nikos place in GTA IV, he would have taken the Revenge ending and finish off Dimtri on the ship but he would also finish off Pegerino right away instead of waiting.
You should do a video about stretch. You can tel just based on hood safari and the phone call with stretch afterwards that it was clearly a bigger setup, they even have the house key inside the fake coke since they were buying a kg or a "key" almost as a way to say "you got trolled"
Knowing how much Rockstar Games milks the fuck out of GTA 5 it wouldn’t surprise me if they released the game for the FORTH time but this time as the 10 year anniversary edition
Happy 10th to Gta 5! Trevor is insane but smart and he is a sociopath other than psychopath characters such as Catalina, Brad and Tenpenny. But Trevor is loyal to Patricia, cares deeply about Michael's kids and he's always been straight and true with Franklin. Another thing is that Trevor also hates betrayal and he wouldn't help Franklin kill Michael when he turned on him for scumbag Devin Weston
On the matter of the O'Neils, note that the mini-cutscene where the main 3 say they're going to attend the deal with the Chinese occurs AFTER a camera shift to a TPS angle, then we shift back to Trevor. That was to tell us the audience he didn't get them all, Trevor didn't know that and given the size of the family I can see it being hard to confirm. (The car Trevor can witness leave if he takes the stealthy approach initially is not them, you can either kill those guys prior or blow up the car as it leaves, that's just to reward stealthy players with fewer enemies for their patience)
I never thought Trevor "was crazy" when he was trying to get a taste of the other side of the Brick. I knew very well that he could see right through the drug dealer's deception. Shortly before playing this mission for the first time I watched that episode of American Dad where Stan took a briefcase, put some phonebooks inside it and laid money on top of the phonebooks to make the it appear like there was more money in the briefcase. Seeing he was willing to play a trick to try and cheat someone I was certain that someone else would try to use deception to trick someone else in a similar manner.
Another thing that probably aided trevor in figuring out that that brick of cocaine was a fake was the fact that he spent enough time in LS to understand the gang culture there Learned about CHF and the ballas and the Vagos He probably connected the dots and thought "why are some guys who represents CHF are going down to Ballas territory to buy coke? Because if there's one lesson that my brother has taught me is that to never conduct business with people you haven't personally interacted with. (He used to be affiliated with a certain group)
Funny enough, I always found Trevor as intelligent through his *insults* at Michael. I would think to myself "Wow, this guy has pretty good emotional awareness" just from the way he would pick Michael's brain apart and saying how much of a coward he is😂
Hard to believe GTA V is a decade old now.. And this is the longest period of time GTA has gone without an official sequel.. It's crazy all around. That being said, whether people like this game or not, GTA V has definitely made its mark on the world as far as video games go! Heres to hoping we'll get GTA VI this decade. Lol
I think even if Michael said "The driver" when Trevor asked about the grave, Trevor would have still been suspicious or double thinking because Trevor would have been like "Oh really? He died a long while ago before you got shot and cops found us" as it wouldnt make sense that some random body would be used from the street as if that body was involved with the crew
To me it feels more like experience being a drug runner for many years made him realize the guy selling the Brick was selling him drywall, not necessarily smarts (Not saying you don't need that too).
Trevor was never a bad guy. Insane minded. Yes. Cannibal. Yes. But a villain. He’s more chaotic neutral. Or more like lawful evil. Because at least he has principles. He would never lean into treachery. He never backstabs people. Sure. There’s lose ends he must deal with. But he will deal with these ends immediately.
Are you kidding me now? Of course he is a villain. Guy killed many innocent people. He enjoys the pain. It's like telling that Max from Life is Strange is not a bad person.
@@starlaixystarhey, don't bring max into this! 😠 she's really not! She made some mistakes, and didn't always know that some of them were wrong until she committed them.
He's smarter than most GTA characters, the protagonists tend to be higher functioning in that they're usually portrayed as very competent. Trevor is very competent, even if he's a maniac, which makes him scarier because he's not just a loose cannon, he's a loose cannon with very good aim. Also, he seems to understand nuance, he has nuanced discussions about political things, albeit typically in a sarcastic way, and he understands the way the world works better than most. He's well researched, and he knows how to listen to other people to inform his decisions. He is shortsighted, that's his downfall.
First off, great video as always. I love how you always take different people from different perspectives and make them work and sound natural when they interact. Second, it sounds like Cohen is following through with the same approach Nikolai did before in BO4 and that means these Zomboys are on borrowed time. And third, it also sounds like the next video is gonna be a Shreebington Joshua Shaw collab. Either way, can’t wait to see the next episodes between our two presidential zomboy channels.
There's a saying that 'intelligence and insanity go hand in hand.' Characters like Trevor Phillips are clear examples of that; he is both the smartest and the most deranged member of the group. And this rule applies to pretty much anything. The Joker is the smartest non-robotic mortal being in the entirety of the DC Franchise, and those behind him; Lex Luthor, the Riddler, Scarecrow, Hugo Strange, etc. all insane. Even Batman, the most intelligent hero in DC has his fair share of major mental problems. Strangelove, Jekyll, Moriarty; the list goes on.
Who ever said Trevor is stupid. Dudes a Pilot, insainly gifted with number, and runs his own drug and gun smuggling rings damn near himself, he's just very emotional driven which causes him to make bad decisions time to time
I think you should do another lore video on Big Smoke, remember him being overweight is no coincidence. He wasn't a bad person per se, but the combination of the rival gang and CRASH helping the Ballas with the drugs just gave him the perfect opportunity to make some good money. So i would call him an opportunist because if CRASH wasn't around he would have probably just listened to Sweet and give up on the idea of Grove street selling drugs. I mean there's a chance he could reunite with the corrupt members of grove street and the ballas somehow, but still that would be very difficult, so yeah there's a reason he's working closer with CRASH rather than the Ballas. What i'm saiyng here is that him being somewhat overweight by today's standards is a perfect way to describe his gluttony wich is almost the same as being an opportunist in a way. But anyway i think even GTA 5's story is better than most people give it credit for, saiyng this after i've watched all of your GTA 5 lore videos. But oh man this Trevor, Debra and Floyd situation is something that should be remembered, because it's so relevant even today. She didin't really use Floyd for money, but she used him for her status so therefore to make more money. That's smart on her end, but still scummy, i hate loveless relationships no matter how much money is on stake.
