What I don’t get is Archie worked at the docks as a longshoreman I presume so he’s making good money. Why did he have to drive a cab at night? Is it because he had to support his daughter and that bum of a son-in-law?
Seriously - can you imagine the MAGA snowflake meltdown if there was an Archie aping the MAGA clown-show today??!! I mean, MTG already lost her mind over Larry David having an unflattering portrayal of MAGA idiocy. Imagine a weekly TV show making fun of these morons every week!!
I can see why Archie called him Meathead as often as he did. Saying the blacks didn’t have the same opportunities as whites is further from the truth. My parents couldn’t afford private school for me and my brother, so we went to public schools just like they did. We chose to take advantage of it when others didn’t.
Edith bunker is the only tv character to have an obituary printed in the press when she passed on the show. Archie did more for equal rights than many black folk. He came on tv once a week and showed America just how stupid it was to be a bigot and racist. And he made us laugh at the same time. Thank you Archie and Edith. We miss you deeply.
I'm curious to know if you know all black folks and everything said black folks did for equality..he may have done alot..but to say..more than most..is not also reaching its dangerous to categorize any group of ppl ..even when trying to be complementary...it just isn't fair...take care and continue to be kind😊
My grandpa when he was in his mid-fifties met a woman that was 25 8 years younger than his daughter. He dated her and a couple of weeks later my mom asking what happened to your young girlfriend. He said I'm 55 she's 25 and she literally wore me out with her energy he said I'm 55 she's 25 and she literally wore me out with her energy. She wanted to go everywhere to dancing, movies, out to eat and everything. He said the go go go literally wore me out.
10:33 Mike has a lot of nerve insulting Archie for owning items! There is nothing wrong with material things, Mike. And poverty is because of a corrupt government nowadays, not the race. All races get crapped on these days. :(
That girl sure looked older than 18. I'd guess 21 or 22. Still creepy of his brother to be with someone like that......I've seen it in person & trust me it doesn't work out.
The song, written by Charles Strouse and Lee Adams, expressed Archie Bunker's (Carroll O'Connor) longing for better times when people like him were in charge. The song's opening line, "guys like us, we had it made," suggests that nostalgia is about a present that feels it has lost something in an idealized past. The song was ironic because the series often made fun of nostalgia.
How can they not have Lionel Jefferson's telling Archie to put a lid on it about interracial dating in the top 5? He was taking his niece dancing, and Archie saw the picture of them together and freaked out.
That was a big deal then, especially in color. I remember growing up with black & white, and when I saw color I was awed. Yet, B&W is still 'clearer'. Long story short, I presently own a 24 inch TV! Who needs to go into hock for a television.
“I never did mind the identification with Archie Bunker,” said O’Connor. “The press thought that I was trying to get away from that image and nothing could be further from the truth. It’s an image that I treasure. People say, ‘Hello, Archie’ to me on the street. That’s wonderful. That never bothered me.”
I often wonder why is it private...as many ppl attend the conventions...its out in the open...the ppl we elect obviously are not hiding...beside the fact that some act as if others are not free to have an opinion that differs from theirs...without it turning into a brawl...and being uninvited for the holidays...I dont understand the big secret 🤭🙄😔😉
The topics of this show are still pertinent today. Offspring that don't move out. I have a friend who complains about government but won't vote. What hypocrisy. Archie lies. He said he voted. He did not. People don't do what they are supposed to then they want to take the benefits of those who did what they were supposed to; using Edith's vote. Partners influencing each other's votes.
