I am 73 and have been teaching golf in Northern California for more than 45 years. I like your style of teaching and demonstrating the 80 yard shot. You have a direct and no nonsense approach which I really enjoy. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
I watched this vid , Top 5 Tips for the 80 Yard Golf Shot, about 6 months ago. I've been practicing it ever since, and it literally "turned my game around". I've found I have this shot about 6 or 7 times a round. I'm now confident with it. I am saving 4 or 5 shots a round!! Thanks MSG!!
When faced with the 80yd shot a lot of times I'll decide to play it safe and layup to something like 35yds. Sometimes I'll decide to skull it 160yds over the green. Rarely do I decide to hit on the green.
This guy adds a great deal of enthusiasm and a bit of humour but he certainly knows his stuff , absolute pearls of golfing wisdom , thanks keep them coming.
I needed this, the 80-100 shot has been killing me lately. Trying to take full swings and getting me into a lot of trouble ! I will work on this one! Thanks 🙏🏼
This is one of the most helpful golf videos I have ever watched. Perfect this simple swing- you can use it on every single club in your bag. It will not maximize distance, but if you master this shot, you can be hitting greens from 150-180 yards with confidence. Take a little more club, simple 60% controlled swing- beautiful. Thank you Matt!!!

Great lesson, I really needed it. I was struggling a lot with that distance in my short game.
the weight forward is the best tip i have seen for wedge shots on the internet. This video and another one said it. It pretty much fixed my wedge shots
From the short grass, each tip is such a good reminder, especially #3 (keeping it shallow). For us that have played in soft & wet conditions, and have come down a bit too steep [with a mid/low bounce grind], we know that super-fun outcome.
Another great video. This could also apply to hitting in the wind. Club up, smoother stroke, keeps the spin down and keep the club low. Love your videos.
Arthur Bekerman tried your 80 yard tip at the range and took it to the course ... maaaaannnnn!!!! Thank thank you .. I now have more confidence in my short game
Mr. Short Game, you have made a huge difference in my game, from driver to putter. The boyz are handing me cash more often than not at the end of the round. Thanks!
My sentiments exactly... I don't I dropped like 10 strokes for real in my games from the driver video. I owe Mr Short game some dough now... Ur an amazing teacher and I've more from u without u seeing my swing then teachers that have seen me in person and I have paid... Thanks a bunch
FANTASTIC lesson! You make learning fun. Your style makes me as a learner feel less anxiety regarding these kind of shots. Shots that trouble most average golfers like me. Bravo to your style of coaching! Bravo to your tips and knowledge! "THANK YOU!!!"
Your Videos are the best golf instruction videos I ever seen. You literally break down the entire shot and/ or training session step 2 step, from top to bottom. Super legit man. Thank you for the help
I have watched many of your videos in the past 9 Months, from pitching ,to short games, or on how to hit your irons, im playing my best golf in 15 years, your videos and how you come across are a game changer!!!!you are the real deal thank you.
Practised this for the first time today, work to be done, but went very well. Instant solid feel when I got it right. I even went up to a 9 iron for 100 yards. I think this is the way to go, crazy trying to hit full wedges, too easy to lose control. Really like this one, many thanks
Started watching after seeing you on Golfholics and have to say I’m really enjoying your instructional videos and your energy is a joy..keep it up..good job 👍⛳️🏌🏼♂️
Can’t believe there aren’t more subscribers on this channel. By far the best instructional stuff that is easy to apply and works. Everything I have ever tried from here actually works and works well. Love the content hands down best golf channel out there.
Hi..thanks for the tips especially with taking the club behind you. I was taking the club almost straight up which really through off the ball flight direction. It worked for me, thanks again, Mike
Buddy I found your channel years ago when you instructed from the chicken coop ! I always need to come back to your videos from this epoch in time to get back my short game and it works for me .
Just loved your 5 tips for the 80 yard shot, shall practice this excellent instruction and look forward to taking it to the course the next time I play. Thanks and Cheers, Rod.
Great tips Matt. I used your tips yesterday at a challenging (6083, 70.4/133) golf course that I played for the first time. I was successful on at lease 80% of my approach shots that saved me a lot of strokes. Thank you so much for your excellent, down to earth, instruction!
Man what a great video. I almost ruined my swing by starting out with videos that teach you to strike down on the ball and forward shaft lean and all that crap. It really almost made me think I could never get better. Keep posting the simple videos!!
Needing this video after watching your driver tips videos, after playing a round where my confidence and performance with the driver was the best ive ever had, i realized i need alot of work on approach shots
I appreciate all the improvements in my Golf game that are directly related with your teaching. My scores keep on getting lower. Thank you! you´re unique!
Matt, long time subscriber here. Been with you since the beginning. You've always put out great content and this is no exception. Keep up the great work, brother.
I know this video is old but I hope people watch this video I like to thank you @mrshortgame I watch your 100 yard 80 yards and 60 yards videos and I must say wow what a difference I always had issues from this distance in golf I’m a low 80s player but after watching your videos my last 4 rounds 77-78-78-79 thanks again MrSG👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 sent this video out to all my buddy’s
This video helped me win a tournament yesterday... it is so important to tune your wedge shots, yet not a shot you would typically practice at the range... very helpful video! Thanks!
Watched this mid-week. Played the medal today and hit six of these 80yds approach shots during my round without practising it. Won the comp in difficult conditions. This used to be a shot I struggled with. Your a good coach and its appreciated.
Like most peeps I have watched a few golf instruction videos in my time but this guy is just the best, I love the way he breaks things down into building blocks and he is actually interesting..... you know when you you were at school there was always one teacher that inspired you, well I am truly inspired! Some peeps have it and this chap is just got his on style, what charming presenter...ten out of 10
Great tips for reducing strokes! BTY, I have that exact same Mizuno stand bag with some forged JXP 919's in it. Live those clubs! I am also fortunate to have a very large yard with a 60-yard hitting area, so I will use your instructions and dial it back a bit. Great video, Sir!
I use this shot a whole lot...as I have a bad left knee. Most of my iron shots are hit this way...it helps me make good contact with the ball without putting a lot of stress on my left side. I may use an 8 iron from 120 yards...but I hit it low, under the wind we always seem to deal with in central Texas...and accurate. From inside 100 yards, I use my Gap Wedge...or even my 9 iron if I am in the rough, which I call my "Baby 9 iron" shot. It's low, accurate, and over the years it's become one of my money making shots! Great advice...people...go practice it on the range...you'll save shots using this technique...and find yourself putting for birdies more often!!
Thanks Mr. Short Game , I've been working on my game for well over 30 years and this is good stuff you are sending us , and us golfers need to remember that if we want to Improve , remember this , ( You Only GET Out Of This Game What You Put INTO It ) thanks again .
Another great video. This distance is one I find difficult and have been standing open and cutting the ball up. This looks like a much more consistent technique.
