I bought my Ruger LCP 2 .380 in 2017 for $249, and I’ve been carrying it ever since. Threw a Galloway precision Sigurd trigger and spring kit and a viridium laser sight on it. It’s accurate and dependable. I literally have less than 400$ into the lil feller. Love it.
They didn’t have it til recently bc I have a gx4 and I was looking for something smaller but not ugly so when I get that .380 the bodyguard 2.0 will be my choice. I just bought the Glock 19x for 499 which is a steal so the bodyguard can wait 😂
I've got a gen3 19 as my edc at the moment. But its very uncomfortable to sit with so i have to take it out when getting in the driver seat and put it back when i get out. Torn between the Bodyguard 2.0 and the p365, but leaning towards the 2.0 , to just pocket carry.
I love love love my LCP Max The weight of it was a huge factor for me when choosing between it and P365. It's CONSIDERABLY lighter when fully loaded. I'm really interested in comparing with the bodyguard 2.0
Chris, one thing I appreciate about your videos is your consistent support of homeless shelters. I work with people experiencing homelessness. The other day, I was at the range, and someone told me they carry because they are “worried about all the homeless around.” I feel like the gun community has a poor understanding of homelessness and how it's more likely an unhoused person will be a victim of violence than a perpetrator. I’d be curious to hear how you got involved with the shelters and why it’s important to you.
@@robertgrosek1124I recently got a deal on a LCR with a laser. First laser grip gun I have . I did not know if I would like a laser. So far I really do.
@@robertgrosek1124why in the hell would you need a laser on a small self-defense gun? You're not only affecting your concealability but in a situation where you need to act quick you're not going to be using a laser sight unless you have the capability to freeze time before you take a shot😅
@@edljnehan2811 not true. It’s a crimson trace laser integral with the grip with a little button on the grip just below the trigger guard so when you grip the gun the laser is on. Much easier to acquire any target fast as oppose to finding those tiny useless sights so laugh all you want. It is a huge upgrade as far as function and of course night time order of magnitude better
Some folks don’t like the company but I personally like my Springfield hellcat. I pocket carry with a 13 round mag and one in the chamber, and an extra 15 rounder.
Just got my Bodyguard 2.0 this week. Only have 50 rounds through it so far. Love it. Going to have to train more to not pull left. Got a Vedder lite holster. Very concealable. Really is easy to shoot. Thanks for your review!
As others have said, check your front sight. Mine was noticably too far to the right. I had to use a sight pusher....it was too tight to drift with a punch.
I've had my Body Guard 2.0 for a week and after 150 rounds I can tell you that it is a straight shooter right on target even with one hand. Perfect for when I don't carry my Shield Plus. Thanks for your earlier review of the BG 2.0.
Smith & Wesson M&P 340 loaded with .38 Special. Light weight. Big, visible sights. Concealed hammer means less chance of lint getting into the action. And there is a separate SkU for a version *without* the infernal lock. Practice makes perfect - he’s right about needing to work on being able to shoot a J-frame well.
I chose the kel-Tec P32. Much smaller and lighter than the ones mentioned when you really need undetectable concealment. Mine has been 100% reliable for years. The best deep concealer for 25 years.
@@CrimeVid One of the reasons I only use European ammo like S&B or Fiocchi. There is a noticeable difference from American FMJ. There are no doubt some hotter boutique ammos in JHP form but the Kel-Tec is not really designed for JHP and they don't expand from a 32 anyway so I hang my hat on penetration.
It's about the same overall size as both the LCP Max and the new S&W Bodyguard 2.0, I have stacked all three of them together. About 1/4" shorter and a little lighter.
Just bought my wife a Smith and Wesson Bodyguard 2.0 380 and holy crap it's tiny, a true mouse/pocket pistol. My wife has small hands, and has had surgery on both wrists and then her left hand. She really likes the new Bodyguard, shoots nice and easy to operate for her.
I like how all the other channels are like, "The Smith and Wesson Bodyguard 2.0 in 380 is great if you're a woman, or an albino haemophiliac with peripheral neuropathy and arthritis, and also child hand syndrome." Enormous bear honest outlaw just praises it for its excellence.
My lady's got the same issues. 2 surgeries on both wrists. I'm probably gonna snag one of these for her but shes also got a sig 238. Little 380 1911. She can rack the slide no problem and it is pleasant to shoot. The springfield 911 is essentially the same thing too. Small differences.
Glad someone else has noticed and recognized the issues with the Ruger lcp max slide finish… Had one right when they came out and it rusted in only a few days of carrying it in a pocket
Bersa Thunder.380CC. Hammer fired with a decocker and safety. Low profile hammer and a small beaver tail. 8 round single stack mag. Tiny and thin but I can still get a grip on it. Great for deep concealment.
Let's give the Bodyguard some time to prove itself. Also, no mags were available for months when the Shield Plus came out. Is this a factor with the Bodyguard? I hope S & W learned from their mistake.
Yes sir!!!! Agreed!!!!!! I'm still going to give it a minute to prove itself and I always like a few extra of each mag with different capacities. Without a total of 3 mags of each capacity, at least, it is not useful to me. Looks like a great gun and it's a Smith!!!!!!
I just purchased the bodyguard 2.0 to replace my LCP Max as well and I absolutely love it! Only thing on the entire gun I don’t like is the rear sight. It’s finally the perfect pocket pistol I’ve been looking for. Shoots great and I can get a great high grip on the gun, unlike the LCP max
I agree with much of this list, except for the Ruger. Everyone seems to forget the pricey 2009 release of the Kahr P380, weighing in at 9.97 oz empty and only 0.75" thich. It has the Walther Lothar performance barrel and a buttery smooth DAO trigger. It's only a 6+1 or a 7+1 but it loves +P, is highly reliable and will last forever. It is truly a deep, deep conceal. Still have mine, 15 years later. Just saying...
@barrydraper I’m glad to hear you enjoy your Kahr. I’ve looked into them and it seems like folks either love or hate them. Personally, I’ve never shot one, so I don’t have anything to base it off of. From what I’ve heard, they are supposed to have a new lineup coming soon! Take care and thank you for your input.👍🏻
My main carry guns are the PM9 and P380. All the new high capacity micros are great, but still bigger enough than the Kahrs that I haven't switched. I'm finally swayed by the Bodyguard 2.0.

Smallest and lightest autos at about 14 oz - Kahr PM9/CM9 / PM40 / CM40. Can't get lighter or smaller unless you step down from 9mm. For weight alone - M&P 340pd at 11.8 oz. M&P Shield Performance Center in 40 S&W because it's actually lighter than the 9mm version at about 18 oz (Single Stack version).
Having both a PM40 & a CW380 I certainly gree the later is a smaller caliber, but... It is absolutely tiny and has all the typical KAHR excellent attributes! Please also note that three of the Outlaw's choices are in 380acp as well.
Sorry, but I won't go below 9 mil or .38 for self defense. I don't want to be forced to make moving head shots. Also, in the Northeast, even when ammo availability isn't a chronic issue, even FMJ .380 is STILL usually scarce, let alone "premium" defensive HPTs. We have clear distribution issues here; for example Black Hills is always scarce as hen's teeth & we get a lot of oddball lots of foreign FMJ brands/types - almost as if we're states #41-46 in line for orders or something. If I came across a shop which had a FULL selection of PLENTY of Speer Gold Dot types including .357 AND .45s, I think I'd keel over from shock.😮
I carry the Taurus GX4 with holosun green dot. Super light weight, and fun to shoot. Comfiest micro pistol grip I’ve held and no malfunctions out of the box. Shot 1000+ rounds and still nothing. I carry it appendix everywhere, even at the gym with my Tulster Oath holster. I forget its there till it’s time to do abs 😂 Definitely worth a shot if you’re looking for budget/value
I'm surprised that outlaw did not put the P238 or P938 on the list since he is in 1911 fan. 3. P238 ankle 2. P938 pocket 1. P365 pocket However, since I live in Texas, I carry a Nighthawk T4 on my belt.😊🇨🇱
My P238 is a sweetheart - accurate, reliable, imminently concealable - love that little gun for occasions when a larger concealed weapon is not realistic.
Same. I love my P238. Best thing about it is it has next to zero recoil since it weighs about 22 or 23 ounces. And the thing is accurate as all get out. That being said, I am very intrigued by the bodyguard 2.0. I hope we can have it here in California.
The bodyguard is a gun that is hard to comprehend until you hold it. It’s so small, so light. Yet so comfortable and shootable. I get a full grip on the flush ten round mag. And the red sight is really easy to pick up. It’s just nice. There’s definitely a place for it in my arsenal.
Have you had a chance to try a gx4? I know Taurus isn't everyone's cup of tea with their 1990s quality control reputation which I would argue has improved a ton over the last 5-10 years. My Gx4 has worked like a dream, very nice clean feeling trigger, and optic ready with 10+1 9mm.
Does Mrs. Outlaw have her own channel too? I got my wife into watching gun channels and she loves watching Honest Outlaw. But she loves it when your wife shoots. Seeing you two as a team and how knowledgeable you both are has REALLY helped bringing my wife into the gun community. My wife just recently picked her own CCW as well, a 4" Walther pdp f series. She loves it and I couldn't be more proud of her.
I would like to see P365-380 vs LCP max vs G42 vs Bodyguard 2.0. BTW I carry my LCP Custom aiwb because I also have back problems and can’t cinch my belt tighter to hold anything else in place without risking triggering a back spasm episode. Love the reviews, keep them coming!
Because the majority of them are just 380 which is a crappy round in a self-defense scenario. I mean they have no recoil are no more than a 22. I carry a 10mm now that's a gun. I wouldn't go less than 9 mm and of course my revolvers are 357 Magnum. People need to get off of these toys when their life may be at stake😢😅
The best .380 is a P365XL lower with a P365 .380 slide and barrel, along with some 12 round .380 mags, which Sig also makes. Basically, a P365X in .380. Sig already had the Bodyguard 2.0 before S&W did.
In stock form the 365 380 is pretty comparable in size but the bore axis looks higher. I don't think it would be as controllable. The Bodyguard's biggest advantage is its a ground up 380 rather than a conversion. No extra dimensions left over from the original 9mm.
I have the 238, LCP Max and the Glock 42. While the 238 is easily my favorite asethically pleasing of the three, the 42 gets carried the most because it shoots so much smoother than the other two and because I prefer to carry with a Techna clip at 4-5 o clock where it just melts into your body. The other two do not carry well with clips. If I want to pocket carry that’s when the 238 shines.
I have a Kahr CT380 & a P9, both are accurate and reliable. Also have mag guts kits for both so I had 8 or 9 rounds depending on which mag is used. They are both rated for +P and the CT 380 has enough grip to hold it.
I personally like my Taurus G2C. It works well for me, and, if I want I can slip it in my pocket. It is very affordable. I really like the manual safety too.
Traded my Carry Max on a Bodygaurd 2.0 just this week. Put a few hundred through it, and I am genuinely amazed that something this small is that shootable.
My view is that to be considered to be a micro, deep concealment, pocket, purse, or ankle carry gun it should have an unloaded weight of 16 ounces or less.
S&W 637 hands down. Best trigger. Not into hammerless J-Frame versions. Trigger mechanisms aren’t as smooth and I think the fear of a snag with hammer is a little (a lot) far fetched.
I want the Bodyguard 2.0 as a replacement for my LCP and found one to put in my hand Friday. I am amazed you have put this as #1 though with no thorough review or torture test. lol
@@NY-rg3gythere's a channel who's put almost 2k through it with only one malfunction. I have 340 on mine, currently carrying below the waist band with the Crossbreed mini appendix and g9 in the tube.
Also switched to the Smith from LCP. Magazines were both defective on Smith out of the box but my gunsmith tore them down and got them working. Great gun.
I work at a gun range/store. When we got our first Bodyguard 2.0, I couldn’t believe how much better it was than the original. 10+1 in an absolutely tiny frame. None of that double-action-only nonsense like the original Bodyguard or the LCP. The slide is so small it’s almost hard to believe it’s not a toy. I haven’t been able to shoot one yet, but S&W clearly looked at the old one, said “This is trash,” and built a gun that is 10x better than the original.
Nice review, and your #1 is on my list to get. My 3 carries are a Glock 26 when it gets cold, Sig 365 and 1st generation Bodyguard. The BG has been carried more than anything else since I got it 11 years ago.
I'm surprised you would have not one but at least 2 guns on your best list that haven't gone through a 1000rd review yet. The Max and Bodyguard. Not saying they're not good bit they've yet to reach a 1000rd milestone of reliability.
You can buff your concealed carry pistol slides with a little microcrystalline wax like the Renaissance Wax brand. Under reasonable use you'll protect the slide surface from salts and moisture for around 3 months until it needs removed and reapplied. Great for carbon steel working knives as well!
Thanks for the tip. I replaced my LCP Max with a Bodyguard (which sucks) because it was rusting. Bought the Bodyguard 2.0 and it's awesome except for the slide bite. It would be nice to have option between the BG 2 and the LCP Max.

@@jeffking1406 Turtle way in the spray can works also. Apply a couple coats letting cure for a little while and lasts for years depending how much you disturb it. My truck gun went over 10 years.
There are some very impressive .380 defensive loads these days. You have to be pickier than usual, of course, but the Lucky Gunner ammo chart is great for that kind of stuff. My little LC380 has some seriously hot rounds in it that will be perfectly adequate for defense.
You should consider the Kimber R7 Mako, chambered in 9 mm. It comes with either flush fit 10 round magazines, or 13 or 15 round extended magazines. Very compact, and shoots great.
My pocket pistol is the smith and Wesson 442. After switching out the grips to the pachmayr compac grips it’s bout perfect. Not a gun you want to go to war with but it’s a great get off me gun!🤠
Due to your cute wife's introduction to AG1, I ordered it and received it just today. I am a veteran with nutritional supplements, and am looking for a way to scale back on the total number of I take and still stay healthy. Thanks again. 😊
If you're gonna get a J frame, just understand that it's not necessarily a one-hole machine beyond, say, 5-7 yards. HEAVY double action trigger is smooth and safe for pocket carry, but not exactly match grade, and just try to be precise with snubby sights. It's more a "get-off-me" gun than anything so just keep that in mind. Get Hogue grips and either shoot light loads for recoil, or FBI loads to give 'em the business. Other than that, enjoy your pocket rocket-- got no real complaints with mine!
Look at all the thumbs up from the tough gun guy suckers. Lol! This is a bot, y'all. Check the bio and when imthe is account was created. You are getting suckered. 😂 Instead, report this bot.
I like the shield plus over the 365. Better trigger, better sights. The only caveat would be the magazines. Theyre very tight. The 10 round flush is fine but the 13 and 15 are tough to get that last round in. Itll fire fully loaded no problem, but it can be iffy. You can also get the magguts soring and follower which fixes that issue and adds 2 rounds to the mag without adding much length.
