When you were saying "I want you to understand how brave it is, to get on here, and play some Image Fight for you right now after not having played it in..." I honestly thought you were going to say... "I want you to understand how brave it is... to bring this cherry of a Turbo Duo RX, out into the elements". Seriously man, it's a delight to see that in action. I think this is the first time you played it on camera for us since ya got it. If this thing was to open doors for the program, I'm glad the first door it opened was for Image Fight, and the first of many to come. If you end up streaming on Twitch with Trevor, make sure you record and upload those to RU-vid as well as its not likely I'll catch those streams live due to the crying $hit machine we now have in the house.
My friend, i see your tired, pissed at life {As many of us are) and dejected. I'm 46 and im questioning my decisions every day. Callachan, keep fucking shouting at us because we need it. Love you man from Scotland.
Oh yeah it's near midnight but that's the kettle going right back on and sleep can wait. A sunday night Bithead show that's Engine related, looking forward to seeing your Top 5 for sure. *Just finished watching the show, an amazing selection of truly great shooters on show here. I am with you on Super Star Soldier, I tend to switch that of and head to Final Soldier more often. But that's maybe because I have put like 200hrs worth into the 2min Caravan shooting mode. You should give it a try, however it can become super addictive, you've been warned 😂👍*
Hey ShitHead1000 (podcast refrence). You keep fighting for us, and we'll always keep fighting for you... 😉 I really enjoyed the Over The Top podcast! It was a nice treat listening to you do your thing for 3hrs. Trevor did a fantastic job as the host, asking many great questions, keeping the podcast exciting the entire time. It was a blast just listening to you guys share stories and laughs... Thank you again for makeing us all feel like family. Cheers brother 😀
This is such a fantastic episode.... not just because I love BitHead talking about PC Engine Vertical Shooters but it also cheers me up from missing out on a eBay Tatsujin bid for just $280 🤢. Image Fight is as tough as they come but there’s patterns to learn here people. That Picture Picture tune is so catchy 👌🏻
Definitely my favorite on the system as well. When you mentioned it on the podcast last week I was surprised. When I realized what the hell 1, 2, 3, 4 were for on the bottom of the screen for the first time, the game transformed for me.
If I had to, I would group Gunhed in the Aleste type games that were all by Compile, which includes Gun-Nac, Super Aleste, Power Strike 1/2 on master system, M.U.S.H.A , Spriggan and a few others. They all had the same power up system. Not related to Soldier games at all. If it hadn't been named after an anime, Gunhed might have been called PC Aleste or something. One of my fave verticals is Kyūkyoku Tiger (aka Twin Cobra), that has the similar slow burn power up system to Raiden and Tatsujin so thats definitely worth checking out. Awesome music and plays much better than the Mega Drive version I think
Tatsujin is such a rhythmic game.... if you perform well in the game, you will notice your kills sync'ing with the music - explosions coinciding with the drum hits... it's a great game.
Ahhhh the Wallendas, the pyramid stunt accident your talking about was performed here in Detroit Michigan... a bit before my time but a tale we have all heard about. But you’re right... a harness these days for a death defying stunt is not impressive! I remember watching him do Niagra falls like “why am I watching this?” 🤦🏻♂️ SIP A COFFEE FOR THE SHOW!
Can't argue with the definitive list brother! (Nostalgia feeds my love of SSS) Whole heartedly agree with Image Fight at #1, it's an amazing game. Though I have beat it I never ever could make it out of the Penalty Zone, so props to you for that my friend!
As a soldier of pc engine I m in man you have my voice to your channel 😁 Image fight homeboy!!!! That the real evil deal shmup. Image fight 2 is really great to, I love so much those game Irem master race
If I were to take my best guess: Musha Truxton Dangerous Seed Fire Shark Elemental Master Vertex Grind Stormer Vapor Trail Undead Line Phelios Twinkle Tail isn't all vertical but it belong in the best shooters list
I knew you’d have image fight and soldier blade 1 and 2. I tend to agree with you. I could swap them every other day and be fine with that also. I got into the PC Engine because of you pal. I absolutely love it. It’s one collection I’ll never get rid of.
I own all these and agree with you for the most part. I don't play Tatsujin often tho as its so crushingly hard. Imagine Fight is indeed awesome I agree. You'll prolly block me once I tell u I have it on the Fujitsu FM Towns Marty also :)
Those where good selections for top 5 PC Engine shooters! It was too bad when you where playing, but you kept dying, and tha screen said "Game Over, dude!" XD
Taoooplan! I looked up Toaplan on the net as I remember them also for Hellfire which I loved on my Megadrive. 4 members of Toaplan went over to start Cave! Cigarettes in tow! Would love you to take a journey from Toaplan shooters to Cave shooters on your show. I don't know too much other than some DonPachi games. We could learn together whilst smoking.
Super Star Soldier was the very first game I got for the PC Engine (along with a copy of Shinobi and Galaga 88) And yes I am with you I like Final Soldier better than Super Star Soldier, just that extra bit of polish. 1943 Kai has evaded my attempts at purchasing as of yet - I do like the series in the arcade though, so will keep trying. I'll add a Mega Bomb into my next Shoot em up for the Colecovision and MSX just for you! One day I may even write a PC Engine game :) GunHed is awesome - it's part of the Aleste series so definitely needs to be included. Oh bugger I don't have Override - that looks very cool - if our exchange rate wasn't so crap at the moment I would be going on eBay straight away! Tatsujin is of course awesome - another I don't have a copy of (just have not had the money) but I have cheated and played it on my Everdrive. My shoot em ups are balls hard, especially my vertical scrolling shooter Pyxidis, you only get a power up for shooting a certain number of enemies, and you get a gradual build up of power. Death is a loose the lot situation though. Soldier Blade is another I don't have, once again just haven't found a copy that matched the amount of money I had at the time - one to look forward to in the future though. Image Fight I do have, another one of my early purchases, definitely an under rated game. It's a game that you feel like you have done a ten round fight afterwards, developers after my own mean heart for sure. You mentioned Raiden, really well done on the system and very well balanced. It will grow on you more.
Respect the list, though i'm a massive Final Soldier fan purely nostalgia the first in the series I ever got. Gotta dig into Image fight some more kicks my ass too much. Secretly a fan of Dragon Sabre here.
I’m 47 so I’m no young punk sensitive gamer but cmon I agree with your list but gotta disagree with image fight on top five period gunhead should be 1 and final soldier should have been 5 but I still respect your definitive list as a fellow pc engine shooter lover .Respect 👍
Aint no NEED for video editing or production when you get the PURENESS of STRAIGHT video FROM the TV and system itself! Greats Video game show in the HISTORY Of human Civilization! And we can see WHY!
In hysterics hearing about the Wallendis! On the down side, my wife thinks I've lost my fucking mind at 330 in the morning. Brilliant! Thanks, Jesse 🙏👌
Gunhed ties in to a Japanese film of the same title; The film references were removed for the US release (Blazing Lazers). FYI the movie has no resemblance to the game.
Super R-Type is terrible, I agree… but I'd be interested to hear your evaluation of the arcade game it was loosely inspired by, R-Type 2… you'd probably have a love-hate relationship with it… because in some ways it's the same as R-Type 1… but in some ways…
Please email me a list of nes games you don't have and I'll send a package of at least two of those games or more and also send something I think will be really good for the channel. Been watching for two plus years and just started watching from beginning. I just passed your first anniversary special. Love the show, hope to hear from you. Oh, and I just wanted to mention you have just read the best comment in the history of human civilization! Have a good day.
I took my boy to the OKC Thunder game tonight. They let us in, brought out the teams, warmed them up, sang the anthem and then, of a sudden, ordered the teams back to the locker rooms, making us wait for over half an hour to announce the game was canceled. all in the name of this manufactured hysteria. The other people at the game seemed above the madness, but the system seems hell-bent on sabotaging the economy.
DoomedHead16.9k consider the genuine genius of this show's introduction, and the top-ten of any current chart in the entertainment industry; the abominations of insolent noise from 'muzak' everywhere you go; the number of morons you're surrounded by each day. In my forty year journey of life, I've only found three people that get me; BitHead makes four.
Ok that’s it. Gonna start a band called “The Final Soldiers” that just plays the music from PC Engine shooters. In the style of Iron Maiden. Not like these fuckin nerds in their bedroom playing guitar to drum machines on RU-vid, I’m taking this shit to the arenas. Who’s in?
A shooter where a bonus blows up when fired upon enough ? Silkworm does that, and also its sequel SWIV. Try the Amiga version ! Demonstrations: Silkworm: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tyktnYLdmzc.html SWIV: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-U06qKApT0aA.html
I'd like to start a modest PC engine collection to experience these games. Its a confusing console to collect for though. Do I just pick up a Japanese PC engine or a TG16?
Get you a pc engine duo rx. Then, have the hu card portion region modded. You’ll have access then to any region cd or hu card game. Plus, these specific systems last the longest. I only recently just started myself.
I am totally with you on Super Star Soldier, it just doesn't click with me. Final Soldier is actually my favorite of the 3 and the one I revisit the most.
