Haha! Isn't it the same with most other games when you start out new? Luckily, you have access to Great Luck and Capture Master skills so you can start investing in your quests for maximum payout rewards.
1% chance for a Rathian Ruby, got one from a random shiny while fighting a different monster but I'll probably never get what I actually need. Love to see rng doing this.

Dis it seriously take 54! I thought my 20+ Teostra (and still going for over a month) in GU was bad enough. You must have seriously not have known about investigations at the time
@@mhk6943 I didn't for a bit, but after the first 15 I looked it up. but I got a Teostra gem on my first Teostra in world, and bazelguese mantle as well as gem on my first MR bazelguese. it took me around 40+ gold legiana investigations before I got one.
@@KensaSkribblez I mean yeah I guess if I had done it 50 times it'd be even worse. But in the Magnamalo quest it's absolute torture because everyone always faints 3 times and fails. So overall I've probably done closer to 35 haha
"... and I genuinely don't want any of you guys to have to, either." Me, saying farewell to my full Rathalos and Silverlos armour sets and SnS and Charge Blade before heading to Kamura: "Gee, I hope there's a lot of Rathalos in Kamura. I almost ran out here."
Just a heads up You can craft Anja Waist for that Attack Boost x2 instead, and it has 2 more lvl 1 deco slots making it overall more flexible. (Unless you really want that Windproof on Rath Waist)
Low Rank and High Rank have different drop rates as well, so sometimes farming a lower rank version is not only quicker to kill, but has higher chance of dropping some parts (eg. Nargacuga Marrow)
Another tip is to memorize where puppet spider is in every map to ride a monster and break other monsters parts. Stinkmink also works as well which you spray a monster and they chase you until you cause a turf war.
You almost covered it all. There's an armor bonus for Capture Master which will increase Capture rewards. What's more, the Good Luck bonus is a 3-point skill, acquired from Helm, Chest and Waist, while the Capture Master is from Arms. This means you can grab all of the good luck gear, still wear your Ingot Greaves S for Attack Boost 2 & Critical Eye 2, and only mildly hamper your damage potential while drastically improving your rewards
funnily enough, all the Raths were quite generous with me (despite already having enough plates, rubies and mantles). at this point i might as well call it treasure hoarding. like how the Elder Dragons do with Old Dragon Treasure.
Can we give giant props to Capcom? The hunter notes on our titular monsters are high levels of QoL awesomeness. I know that it's still early and we fans are still getting our tools in order, but outside of niche cases or looking for specific bits of information that's likely outside the purview of the notes, I can't see myself constantly accessing a fan wiki over the fantastic on-hand in-game resources. Capcom did a fantastic job with this tool and it's various information breakdowns.
@@Buphido I never check the Monster list in 3U, 4U or Gen/Cross. It was pointless. I only found out about it in MHW because I hunted 40 Deviljhos exclusively through captures.
Many, many things wrong with the first part of this video. Mainly the capture part of this video. First thing is first, you have not hunted 21 Rathalos, you have hunted 16 Rathalos, and out of those 16 you have captured 5 Rathalos. Figuring this out is very simple, as an experiment I started up Rise and looked at how many times I hunted Great Izuchi (6) and captured (0), I went out and captured a great Izuchi, when looking back at my hunters notes, it updated to say I have hunted (7), and captured (1), so out of the 7 I have hunted, I have captured (1). Now that this is out of the way we can go onto the largest mistake in the video, at 1:20 you go to say that capturing at killing is equivalent in the older games including world. This is false. Every capturable monster in the game can be carved 3 times, (Except Raging Brachydios) This means you have three carves to receive what you are looking for. I hopped into World and captured 5 rathalos high rank, the parts you receive from capturing can be seen at the bottom of the screen when you hover over them, over the 5 rathalos I received anywhere from 3-5 capture rewards. I then went back into rise and captured 5 high rank rathalos, this lead to even less, from 2-5 capture rewards. Making it *even worse!* than Worlds. Now to go on about how you said killing a monster gives you a better chance at receiving a gem than capturing. This is also false, killing a monster gives you a 3% chance to get a gem every carve, this is for all three of the carves. guaranteeing you are getting anywhere from 2-5 rewards from capture, you have a 3% chance to get a gem on any of the 2-5 rewards. Making capture *still* the better option over killing. Breaking the head, cutting the rail, breaking the back, receiving the three shinnies from wyvern riding and then capturing the monster gives you the highest possible chance of getting a Rathalos Ruby, Orb, Plate, or any of the rare rewards.
^this. Sad that this message is buried under so many other comments. Hastily done videos with lack of research into a subject leads to misinformation and it'll make it harder to spread the proper information down the line because the misinformation's been spread by a known MH youtuber. Rage did the same for World a few times, where they were stating unverified assumptions as facts.
This is how I farm Dash Extract. Works pretty well. Start the R5 Royal Ludroth quest, run toward Area 13, jump on the Kulu-Ya-Ku (it's always in this area) then run toward the Royal Ludroth location, 3 heavy attacks, mounted punisher, collect the 3 items and return from the quest :D It should takes around 2min max for each run.
Good. You need two beast gems for the double crit boost rajang feet Edit: While grinding Goss Harag for claws, I used two gathering palicos and now I have nine beast gems 0.o I got four in one hunt. Double gathering palicos will get you SO many more gems its crazy
You thought getting a plate off Magnamalo was tough, Try to get a Purple Magna Orb off a High rank one! 3% Chance capture and kill to get one. Carves 3% Target Rewards/Dropped Materials 1%. Breaking the Head and Tail is the key, I managed to get , just one, And one more to go, And this video helps out a lot.
I prefer palicos because they're infinitely more useful during the actual fight I find. I'd rather have my palicos buff, heal, trap, and bomb for 200+ damage than have the faster mobility. I even find that running and climbing after the monster nets you more spirit birds than following the main trails.
while im not a new commer to the MH series, i havent played anything other than the PSP ones (those religiously) and world, these tutorials really help me out alot, with all the things that have changed
I made my first Palico a Gathering type for this exact reason, and just helping to increase my part yield in general. Named her Rikku and she's already netted 3 plates and a Mizu Orb for me!
2 gather palicoes 5 piece ibushi or narwa set ( getting a orb from either of them will be the hardest part) Find the bird that boost rare drops + some of the methods in the video
I got one from a rathalos scratching a post. it dropped a shiny so I picked it up as I went past him. I still haven't killed a single high rank rathalos.
I mean (spoilers) The apex monsters in the game so far are literally just the gu deviants so apex diablos will just be bloodbath if it's added to the game, which is likely given the pattern so far.
Josh you really need to correct that misinformation about capture rewards, it's sure to spread from such a thing. *Each capture reward slot* has the listed % chance to drop the material so your example for goss should actually list 3 2% carves or 3-4 5% capture rewards (for example).
Oh my Lord... I had been farming Magnamalos and Anjanaths for the last week and wasn't getting the items I needed. I got two palicos and the Itsushi armor... BAM! Right away got the items I needed! Thank you!
the table say's that theres a 3% chance of carving a rath ruby the 1% is normal quest rewards chance and shiny drop carve capture have the same rate for that but I think u might get more than 3 cap rewards so you have more shots at 3%
Yes it does say 3% carve for ruby but that is only when carving the tail if you look back at the video at 3:30 there is another table to the left, and carving the body is a 1%.
The best thing is always, that you need just one Ruby/Gem. You take a long time just for one, than you get it and in the next hunt or 3 you get them a lot
Bruh its crazy how much ya notice has improved and changed, and dont at the same time. I always used Large M info for the weakness points and element, never saw the carve/capture %. God im loving this installment.
i watched this video and didn't have enough money for another palico because i spent it on armor, and hunted a rathalos in hopes for getting the ruby, but mainly for money because i didn't think i'd get it. i break its tail, and get the rath medulla, and after a bit capture it. i look at the capture rewards, and got a ruby, as well as my only palico getting one. crazy
Right now I can confidentiality say I'm a speed runner after 50+ Anjanath kills without a ruby. I can read him as an open book, it's amazing in a sad way
Hunting tons of monsters for a super rare drop is part of what makes the game great. Imagine getting whatever you want, whenever you want. That shit would bore the hell out of me
Should have gone into more detail on how to mount for shinies. Heavy attack > dodge cancel until you have hit 3x, then launch (NOT finisher - Y) the monster into the other monster. Boom, now you can mount the other monster.
What helps me is doing multi player expeditions. It is very random as to what monsters you get but you'll often find scattered parts from a previous players fight or can help in a fight that may be a little tough for you.
Actually I was getting Rath plates and Rubies quite often.. I got Rath plates before I even got any Rath webbing.. Yes Plates as plural. Plus the first ever drop from a High Rank Rath was a Ruby.
I have insane luck this time around. I found monster plates on multiple occasions from glowing spots and all the ruby's i needed droped in like 2-4 hunts.
So Josh, MH Rise just came out on Xbox Game Pass. And I had to respond to your question at the start of the video. I just finished my first High Rank Rathalos, and I got 3. One from tail carve, one from a shiny drop, and one from the target rewards. I'm sorry it took you so long 😔
I'm pretty sure if a capture says 5%, it's 5% per capture rewards, in which you normally get 2, 3 if you lucky, so still works out better than carving 3 times at 3% each.
Thank you so much for this Video! I finally got a gem after killing the monster only 3 times (with your methods). I dont even remember anymore how long ive been trying to get a gem
I got confused when Josh said he hunted 21 Rathalos for a ruby when it said he only hunted 16(5) and thought maybe how the way it reads out hunt data changed but as it turns out still reads the same. For example the 16 is the number of times you've hunted the monster overall, the (5) is the number of times you've capped it out of 16, I just tested this on Magnamalo and I had 14(3) once I caught him it went to 15(4), granted it's weird that it's presented this way but that's how they did it in world and I guess it makes sense to the devs.
Back in world when the game just started I had to farm nergigante 93 times for 2 gems 1 for weapon and another for an armor piece... and that progress was later lost when I lost my account...
This sounds like me with Nargacuga Marrows.... I was switching weapons and... I can tell you that it's mildly annoying trying to break the back of the speedy cat with a blunt slow weapon. xD Took me a few dozen tries before I just asked my friends to come speed things up (I know it doesn't really, but it was more fun than seething alone at the rewards screen).
Or do rampage. There is not all monster available in rampage quests, true... but you get so many random stuff. And if one of the major threat is Rathalos, you seems to get more Rathalos rewards. I didn't even farm for Rathalos, and I have already a ruby and a LOT of plates.
Laughs in 346 brachydios for the fucking pallium in 3u. The desire sensor can utterly fuck you over so much. I calculated once exactly what my chances were each hunt (2 brachs per hunt) I had a net 3.74% average for the item each hunt and it took around as I said 300 brachydios before the damn thing dropped. I got two of them when it finally did. I also had over 1000 gigginox hunted due to my need for those good good mega demondrugs/armorskins.
3 body carves + 1 tail carve + 3 shiny drops + face break =8 rolls. so you should get 1 ruby after 12 hunts and 3 shiny drops + 1 face break. Probably around 10 with 2 gathering cats, dango good luck, and medium set.
I remember trying to get just one more rath ruby in 4U village to get the silver rathalos set. I'd run in to the silver village quest pick up it's shiny sand try to sever its tail then abandon when I didn't get it. Good times
Ok, so this video is very misinformed. Let me say what's wrong with it. First a little nitpick, if your Hunt count says 16(5), that means you hunted 16 Rathalos of which you captured 5, but that's beside the point. Method 1: Capture the Monster This on its own is a good tip for rare materials, however the way you explained it is misleading. What is listed in the Materials segment of your Monster List are drop tables. They show what chance a material has every time this drop table gets called. For example, body carves. Every time you carve a monster's body, this drop table gets called. So to calculate how many of a certain material you'll get every hunt where you carve the monster three times, you multiply the chance by 3 (you got this part right). Now for Capture Rewards. If you look at the end screen of your hunt, you'll see the segment called "Capture Rewards" with, let's say, 3 materials. This means that this drop table was called *3 times*, each of which had a chance of 3%. This means that instead of it being "3% once being better than 1% 3 times" (which it isn't?), it's *3% 3 times*, which is MUCH better. Method 2: Wyvern Riding Dropped Materials I don't fault you for this one, because the game doesn't really tell you this. Wyvern Riding drops will pretty much never be a rare material. Reason being, normal drop materials and drop materials from wyvern riding are actually two separate drop tables. You can notice this by summing up every chance in the drop materials column of a monster. You'll notice it equals 200% (even more for some). This means that there are two different lists shown. Sadly, the one that corresponds to wyvern riding usually only includes mostly common materials like shells/carapaces and scales. Method 3: Palico Plundering Again, the game doesn't tell you enough. There is another drop table specifically for plundering via Palico. This drop table rarely if ever contains rares. It might contain the odd plate in high rank, but not much else. Method 4: Good Luck Skill Using the good luck skill is good advice, though I'd add that the Medium armor set is only available if your hunter is female. If your hunter is male, the equivalent set with the same skills would be "Utsushi (Visible) S". Method 5: Part Sniping This one's just good advice. Nothing wrong with this one.
I remember I had to hunt three Deviljho s to get one tailfang and when I got it my game crashed and I lost the progress on the two, (the other one was special quest) that was the most infuriating day ever, so I went to vlcaoturing and got it in like 3 more
Not sure if coincidence or not: Killed so many Almudrons for a plate that the Argosy lady unlocked the Almudron Scroll decoration for my room. Highly insulting but cool if the scrolls unlocked based on how many you kill.
He says it's better to kill Goss Harag for a chance at Goss Harag Bile because a capture gives you a 5% change, while killing him gives you a 2% chance and three carves(kills) is 6% which is better than 5%. That doesn't make sense. It takes longer for one kill than a capture, and you'd have to kill three times for that 6% chance.
Fun fact, when I watched this video I was in rank 4, and I was just laughing cuz I was like "damn, it must be hella difficult to get the rathalos ruby". Then I did his quest in the lava caverns and not gonna lie, I actually got the ruby and the rathalos plate all in the first hunt. I don't think that will ever happen again XD
