This is my subjective list of worst lore characters. Not only covering characters that were bad from the beginning but also the ones that had their good storylines ruined. What are your worst characters in WoW Lore?
Doronsmovies i totally agree with you on grom, i was so excited to see the "WARLORDS" of draenor, but blizz derailed the namesake of the expansion in favor of more burning legion
Thrall. Worst leader ever exist. Make Garrosh the warchief even though he know Garrosh is not suitable. Even appointed Voljin and then left the horde to Sylvanas. Like wtf. X(

Especially if they'd replaced Kalec in Tides of War with Keal, hinted at maybe the Blood Elf leader and Alliance leader maybe starting to bond again, then the bombing of Theramore and culling of Dalaran ruined any chance of that happening. Way better than Kalec - Kalec is boring as shit and kinda ruins every story he's a part of, especially his forced romance with Jaina.
Being a fan of the Warcraft3 RTS games, I eventually took interest into wow lore. What they did to Kael'thas greatly disappointed me. Alternate universe Grommash also disappointed me.
Oh I agree, I was a huge fan of Kael'Thas in Warcraft 3, I really felt like he was the type of guy to do anything for his people and was completely selfless. It was a complete shock to me when he was a raid boss in Burning Crusade.
Grommash was also a disappointment, but you guys are forgetting something. Imagine if they added Durotan and Draka's reaction to the fact that Thrall is their son. Hopefully we see that with Geyarah
warcraft 3 was the last time they told a good story. WoW just became a disney ride to kill every character that ever appeared in warcraft 1/2/3. "You like any of those characters? well they WeNT MAAAAAAAD NOW and you gotta kill em!! pay 15$/monthly por favor."
The rest isn't that bad, maybe (probably they are that bad but i just want to vent xD) 3- Forsakens enter the Horde. 2- Blood elfs enter the Horde (the same one that have undeads) 1- Sylvanas becomes Warchief
Include Garona. Her role became confusing when the movie came out. Kaelthas is still one of my favorite however his character development was written very poorly. And who is Medan?
Yeah I agree. It thought they showed very well how manipulative and powerful Gul'dan truly was, and it really felt like a huge feat to actually defeat him. And I'm glad he went of the the next expansion cause if he would just be in WoD he wouldn't be done justice (like Grom wasn't).
the fact he is responsible for opening the portal in tomb of sargeras and the reason why you are fighting like nightborne and vrykul in legion who were all been recruited by Gul'dan into becoming the legion's allies.
Gul'dan was probably the best thing that came out of WoD cuz all those cutscenes and storyline with the nightborne was amazing, and wouldn't have had that much of an effect were it not for him specifically. However, that doesn't excuse how poorly panned out his story was in WoD, it was all over the place.
1. For me is wrathion. He had a good upbringing but in mists he passed him self off as this destituted son feeling guilt for deathwings sins which i couldn't care about. He also aided in garrosh's escape which indirectly brought the iron horde and the legion into azeroth and is also indirectly respomsible for varian's death. The fact that were not all out calling for his head and he still thinks he's in the moral high ground astounds me.
I was definitely considering adding him but who knows if his storyline will get turned around. He started off really great and was very unique but then nothing really happened.
@@Doronsmovies wow didn't know you would repond. I was also thinking about the new chronical nerzhul. The new one just made him seem like some kind of pawn to guldan and the legion. When in actuality nerzhul was a lot more cunning and capable than they thought he was. His plans involved blowing up a planet and galactic wide expansion.
5. Kael got shafted really bad, but then again, it was TBC. Lore wasn't as important or well "written" as today. 4. Like the guy cuz of his VA. Mixed on his portrayal, considering he's kind of a douche in lore, but a bro ingame. And you do have to admit he was right about Dragons and Mortals. 3 & 4 Alternate universes and time travelling are really hard to pull off even to the best of writers, and it wasn't surprising that it failed. I get the intention of Blizzard for both pleasing us/getting our cash, but it was just bad. 1. Ah yes, the ultumate Mary Sue. The guy that can be priest/pala, mage and shaman. Rey from Star Wars only wishes that she was that OP. I think that you forgot Illidan. Considering how much Legion tried to portray him as an anti-hero, he was still a douche. Though I admit that the whole anti-Light thing looks promising.
Yeah I can agree with that. It really was around WotLK when Blizzard started getting more serious about WoW lore. I was thinking about adding Illidan but I felt like it was only his ending that was really, really bad. His overall storyline was very interesting and he was comprehensively covered in the lore.
I actually forgot about Med'an, so I went to look him up, just to see if he's really as bad as Doronsmovies describes him . . . oh, damn. He's actually much worse. Yeah, he's the ultimate Gary Stu. If only John Snow and Kvothe from The Kingkiller Chronicle saw him. They'd be so jealous.
I think that The Prime Naaru Xe'ra should be here. They introduced her with this deeper exploration of the Naaru and the Light (she predated the titans, she could've been a great chance to flesh out some lore and the Light vs Void conflict) and the whole "Army of the Light" could've given more history of the Burning Legion and worlds beyond Azeroth. But then they ruined her story to appease anti-Light fans by making her a hard-liner and waving the "maybe the Light isn't good" flag instead of using her to flesh out the idea of Light vs Void being at worst Order vs Chaos. They also bent over for Illidan fans by having her get forceful then jobbing her to shill Illidan.
@@CIAinTaiwanAndUkraine And we all know how well that storyline was received. I'd like the Lightbound's side of the story, but I don't think Blizzard will do that. I also think that they're not going to explore any of what I just said.
Yeah her story was really bad maybe not predating Titans I mean they're old as crud but srsly they made her backwater nuts fairly.i mean someone like the Alton doing this ok but a naaru wasn't right atleast one almost drained of its light nope one fully charged naaru too....
In my opinion sylvanas should be in this list not because her past which was tragic and interesting but her present in which she became an inconsistent mary sue character, it's sad how blizzard ruined her
Kael for sure got shafted. I had such high hopes for WoD when it was released. That was the last time I can actually remember sitting in a queue for WoW. But yeah, it's like they gave up on that story and content mid-way to work on Legion. Legion was pretty amazing imo, even with the weird Gul'dan shoe-horn.
I agree. Legion as an expansion was was pretty good but in my opinion they really messed up the lore in the end. It really felt like there could have been an expansion worth of content between the defeat of Gul'Dan and the imprisonment of Sargeras.
I felt the first 1/2 of AU From a story was fine, I could see the main timelines Grom becoming a pretty big A-hole if he wasn't beaten & humbled by the events of Warcraft 1-3. But we should have had him impaled on the spires of Hellfire Citadel for the crap he did rather than the 'High five Bro ending we got.
Oh I agree, should have mentioned that more in the video. I remember being so excited when I saw the WoD cinematic. WoD didn't start of too badly but it didn't add much and then ended abruptly.
one day blizzard will jump the shark by introducing med'an and make him canonically just because the alternate universe door open back in warlords of draenor and making him the vanguard against the void since there is no one strong enough in azeroth by itself...
In the alternate universe, characters are much worse than Grommash. Orgrim - completely downed character to the level of a simple orc. Yrel - like a piano from the bushes appeared in knowledge. Blackhand - I understand that in our universe Grommash is hindering Blackhand, but how Hellscream humiliates Blackhand for a lost battle shows how low the Blackrock leader in the hierarchy is against the leader of the Horde. In our universe, Blackhand was a more dangerous and powerful character.
What is it with Blizzard and their villains? First Kael'thas, then Garrosh, now Sylvanas? It's like they can't wrap their minds around people having depth and flaws, so the writing team just flips a switch whenever they need a new bad guy.
For me, they’ve botched Illidan and the Demon Hunters as a whole. Before Legion, it was fine, but their approach during the expansion felt so forced down my throat that I now greatly loathe what I would’ve considered both an alright character and a neat Hero Class. I have no qualms with the Demon Hunters being finally introduced, but how Blizzard went about it killed any excitement I could’ve had. Retconning Illidan’s death was even worse, honestly. At least before, you had the little mystery of what his intentions were. And they’ve killed that too.
Considered adding her but she had some redeeming qualities in my opinion. However still felt to me like a character Blizzard came up with but didn't know what to do with.
Yrel was fine, personally I feel like Maraad's story was super cucked. In 5warlords of dreanor cinematics he really showed his personality and people felt connected to him/his burden etc. (Idk what I'm really talking about lol) but the main point is that he dies like 2 months into the expansion. Pretty sad, he was like 3rd most important char in wod and he just dies like that.
I really liked both Gul'dans, especially since I've got a sweet spot for Warlocks and GD is my favourite character in the game. But I do also have to agree that he was there, well, just because i guess. Even tho it was fun having him back, it started to felt really annoying in the end.
Totally agree with all your picks, they are dead on point SPECIALLY Kael'Thas, what they did to that character was savage and bad, a real wasted opportunity just to create a new boss in game. Over the years many, MANY players have ask for Kael'Thas to return and be redeem from that terrible in-game story they gave him in WoW. There haven't been a year that has pass where some player that decided to play Warcraft3 RTS games comes to the WoW forums complaining about this. Hopefully if predictions are correct...and since this expansion is kinda following the Warcraft3 RTS games story in a weird similar way...we may yet see him brought back...maybe...hopefully in some form or another.
Alternate universe characters are the worst thing in my opnion. Its just a way for the corporations to keep milking the nostalgia out of us without caring about the character or the lore.
Odyn was added quickly in the lore he? Yeah right this is why there is a hole around Ulduar since the verry first days of wlk and also we always wondered from where val'kyr came from and odyn and helya story showed us all of this why there is hole betwin ulduar where val'kyr came from so no i dont think he was added 'quickly with a retcon" all you say is bad ! And wtf Me'dan dont even exist in lore i never believed he exited since i never saw him in game so well give us real n1
the moment blizzard had to use time travel to reimagine already well fleshed out stories was the moment blizzard killed its universe. and I thought warhammer had some bad lore in the end times, least they didnt just rehash the same shit in different orders because of a lazy time travel plot and had the balls to close the story.
As much as I enjoy the story and art style of the gul'dan warlords vid, it was really disappointing to see them completely change his backstory. I still feel that the biggest letdown in WoD was that doom hammer had basically a cameo in the whole expansion. As a major core character that helped to establish the warcraft universe and one of the biggest influences of Thrall, you'd think they'd make him an important character of the expansion. The fact that he died in a really pathetic way and became irrelevant was a terrible decision.
Happy the Hordes best Warchief wasn't on this list, even though they gave him the same 180° heel-turn treatment that Sylvanas and Kael'Thas received. Vol'Jin should have been an honourable mention at least imo. Did nothing but sit idle for years, stir drama, abandon his people, admit he's unworthy, require Bwonsamdi to survive twice (one long term, one short term), named Sylvanas his successor because _someone_ told him to and finally died to nameless npcs. But uh, yeah. DarkSpear never die. Or something.
I hate wod very much, also cataclysm from lore prespective cs both expacs invole lots of time travelling and some weird alternate realities shits. Its so confusing, cheap story pushing mechanic and pretty cliché. Like the whole idea bringing back old warchief generation and guldan snd stuff from wc1 is so bad, plus stuff like two velens when the alternate one sacrifice himself, but noone still care cs its just copy of original velen and other. Its just so boring. Like blizzard ran out of ideas. Is it rly that hard if they wanted like orcs and stuff making another ingame version of outland which u would acces like u switch between undercity and bfa ruins or silithus, and making like some orcs which stayed on outland went crazy cs of like legion corrupted them sgain and making them invading azeroth?
@@stanislavkoev467 well i dont rly think its good idea, like yees u can visit old draenor as it was before destruction, but still, it makes story super messy and confusing. maybe they could also make if they made another outland map like they restored it somehow and for example hellfire peninsula would be some forest mountains would have snow and animals would be eveyrwhere
Rhm ehm pretty much everyone in tbc, cs blizzard didnt rly know what they are doing and just were like: guys we need some cool bosses and stuff. Some random dude at blizzard: what about kaelthas or illidan? Noone rly cares about them anyway.
I think Tyrion is a terrible Character as well, He's complete lack of recognition of Arthas might and his constant habbit of hiding like a jedi made me cringe in every scene I saw him in Wotlk.
KelThas did nothing wrong. He did rverything for his nation, Illidan just use blood elvens. Thinks about it only 1 of 10 elf survive demon hunter's training. His nation need energy. He need it. Acsept it from his enemies when noone alse can give it. Every sacrifice for your nation.
garrosh’s story is good, at least there is enough reason why he became the villain.It’s a shame that he ended up being last boss but that’s because of yshaarj, he could be a great warchief
@@erenanarchy9538 Garrosh had a fantastic story, plagued by two different writers during the cata period, then forcing him into a villain slot, offering a possible redemption during War Crimes and then scrapping that in a death with no resolution to the story in WoD.
