Great collection. You can tell you are a passionate comic book collector. I have a lot of the same comic books got them from my dad and I collected everything wolverine and punisher as a kid. Just have not taken the time to send my comics to CGC to get them graded. It seems like a big undertaking. I have that Avengers number 4 as well and a bunch of silver keys for Avengers, Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, Daredevil and X-men. Thanks for sharing your collection.
Hey Trent, thanks for watching and for the comment. CGC is necessarily for everyone. If you like them raw keep them raw. If you ever think about selling, identify which ones would be worth grading because the grading can be a large expense. I just sent 20 books to CGC in various tiers and it was not cheap. Only in the last 10 months have I begun trying to let the hobby fund itself. Sounds like you have a great collection.
Great collection of comics, although it wouldn't have even occurred to me to get some of the more modern comics slabbed. In fact I have all of those magnificent Bronze Age X-Men in high grade and purchased off the spinner rack, but still haven't slabbed them. At least I can still do that, but obviously will never have the pleasure of getting Stan Lee to sign a book in person. You lucked out that he signed that Hulk 340 in the perfect location. Other collectors have noted that they weren't so fortunate ;)
That Bronze Age X-Men run is my favorite in all comics. That is what I started reading as a kid from my dad’s spinner rack collection. His were all mid grade, nothing high grade as he read them and then they got placed in a box as is. A longer term goal is to have Giant Size 1, 94-142 all graded. The Hulk 340 placement was due to a window bag that my dad made for that 2012 Stan Lee signing so that was the only option for him to sign the book. Thanks for the great comment.
@@doctortcomics2576 I actually thought about the window bags that people resort to, but just assumed Stan was on his game that day ;) Dunno, if I'll ever get a GS X-men 31. Heritage just put up a page of the original art from Dave Cockrum which will probably get an astronomical price. It's a great page, too.
Yoooooooo I can’t believe you pulled up that marvel 2 and 1. My dad loves that book and he used to read it too me when I was like 3. That comic is stuck in my mind forever that’s why I love the thing
Hey Daniel, yes that is where it all started. My dad was never into the serious collecting side of the hobby but he has enjoyed reading comics for over 40 years.
Love the collection brother. Trying to get my What If collection together as well as others near and dear to my heart. If I knew then what I had when I was 8 I would've taken better care of my books.
Thanks for watching! I didn’t start worrying about comic condition until 2010. Everything before that was just to read, not destroy, but whether the book was NM didn’t matter. It didn’t even know what near mint was!
@@doctortcomics2576 Thanks for making a dope video. Much appreciated, hope you get your Uncanny X-Men 141 & 142 signed by Chris Claremont. Godspeed my brother 💯
Hi Terrence, thank you! I have always collected what I love and have fit it in the budget that works for my family. Notice the lack of major Silver Age first appearance keys!
A goal of mine is to complete the 129-142 higher grade run. I still need 131, 132, 134, 135, and 136. I have them all raw in mid-grade. The ultimate goal, which will probably take the next 5-8 years is to have an entire graded run from Giant-Size 1 through 142.
What a wonderful grouping from your collection. Thank you for posting. Being a fanboy of the Marvel Silver age myself, I can truly appreciate your amazing books. One question on Avengers #4. What was it that made it a restored book? Perhaps a bit of color touch? I also loved those Stan Lee signature books. I had met Stan at a shareholders annual meeting in NYC back in 1995. No big hoopla and he was just sitting in the rather small audience with everyone else. I spoke with him and he was friendly and chatty. I mentioned my Mother never threw out my books and he said I was a lucky boy. He then signed both of my annual reports which were in the form of a comic book. I have them to this day. Now about that "Pence" edition. The small letter d refers to Denarius which is a Latin word meaning money and similar to the Spanish word Denero or in Italien, Denaro. Lastly, I think you just might have a copy of ASM #50 somewhere in your collection, yes? If so, and it's raw, please feel free to read my childhood letter to the editor. Left page, bottom left. Stan called me Joey. I was 11 years old at the time. I used to have 6 copies but now just two lovely copies that I will have slabbed. One of them has John Romita Sr's signature on the bottom of the splash page and another signature in the margin by my letter. Thanks again for showing your lovely books. Best to all and Make Mine Marvel...um, Silver age that is.
Hi! The restoration on the Avengers 4 includes color touch, tear seals, and pieces added. I have thought about restoration remodel before but have never pulled that trigger. It also has white pages which is pretty spectacular for a book from 1964. Thank you for sharing your story about ASM 50. I actually do not that have book.
Love the Poster behind you (The Large One) We have got to get past the stigma of "Restored" .....I have no problems with them, especially since some keys are so expensive these days! Love Sgt.Fury #13!@!!
I agree about the restored and qualified grades. And the FF 50 only has a “small amount of color touch on cover,” yet it eliminates up to have the value of the book. Thanks for the comment and insight!
Loved the books. I just gave you a sub so I will definitely keep watching out for your videos. BTW, That Marvel Two-In-One Annual has always been one of my favorite stories to read and reread over the years. Nothing shows Ben Grimm’s aka The Thing’s indomitable spirit and will to overcome odds and the willingness to save others over himself more then this “fantastic” story.
Amazing collection man, congrats. Some of these gems I got from foreigner collectors, its a great way to have some bigger keys for less money - if the cover and year matches with the US counterparts I mean.
New to your channel, what a fabulous collection. Beyond awesome man! Love the Metal Men! Stan Lee & Neal Adams sig on one comic, very nice! Big bucks really went into these Big boy gems.
Thank you. The Metal Men were a favorite of my Dad’s when he was a kid. I picked Showcase 37 up in 2014 at the Salt Lake Fan Ex. Every one of these books were picked up before the Marvel price boom. For example, the FF 48 was only $125 raw when I bought it in 2015 also at Salt Lake Fan Ex. No joke. 😂 Every one of these books is an example of “buy what you love.”
I agree about pence covers. Which is interesting considering how people go bonkers for modern newsstand versus direct editions. And like those, UK editions were released at the same time as US versions.
New sub here! We have quite a bit of overlap in our x-men and wolverine collections, though all but 2 of my books are raw. Fun video, thanks for sharing!
@@comicbookninja5268 I am...in my dreams. I have toyed with the idea of selling some things to get one of those, but everything I have in my PC is there because I really like it, especially my higher value books.
I know what it is but have not read it! Though I did send in the Walt Simonson variant cover of issue 1 for a signing and it came back a 9.8 with Simonson’s signature. I have that video of the unboxing on the channel. Thanks for watching!
Hi, I was wondering if you can identify the artist who created this superhero piece. Believe it or not it was drawn by markers. On the opposite side you can see the marker ink bleeding through. The coloring and shading is utterly stunning. There are three different signatures on the bottom left corner.
I can’t even imagine. For example the X-Men 129 in this video was $90 when I purchased it and yesterday another copy with the same grade sold for $1300. Crazy.
Yes I am quite biased toward Marvel. 😂 I grew up with my Dad’s comics that he bought off the “rack” from 1978-1986 and they were all Marvel. I do have about five short boxes of DC and about 10 DC CGCs. My Instagram is austin.w.thorpe I grew up in East County San Diego, moved to Utah for a Bachelor and Master’s degree, taught high school for six years and then we moved to Tallahassee for three years for some more school. We are currently in Utah.
Great collection. I try and have my sons involved in the hobby, just like you with your pops did. I don’t spec on movies anymore though because must of the MCU and Disney movies and shows have been woke garbage. I collect what I want for my PC
