In Pokémon X/Y, trading a Luvdisc for a Steelix. Practically a gift Pokémon, since you can fish right outside with an Old Rod for 100% catch rate for Luvdisc
Gyarados for magikarp is one of the best trades, IV's in attack, adamant Nature and boosted exp, it's literally trading gyarados for a way better gyarados
Ironically your right I remember getting a blank slate scissor with adamant so all I really had to do was slap on a power bracer and let all my higher level guys feed it the xp through exp share just to maximize the attack evs
Imagine if Mindy actually trades a Haunter without the Everstone gimmick or a Gengar in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, it might becomes one of the biggest plot twists
It’s always infuriated me that I couldn’t get a Golem unless *magically* I found someone to trade with. I ended up buying a second system for cheap, just so I could trade with myself for it.
Ik this reply 2 years late at the time of me typing this comment & all that. That’s the problem with trade evos in general. That’s I like games such as SWSH & SV since you can catch them in the wild or find them in raid dens. Along with PLA since you have other ways of obtaining those trade evos to. Also it’s not that hard for Game Freak to give the players alternate ways of obtaining trade evos that don’t rely on Nintendo Online & trading.
@@FireheartSamurai Yeah, i feel like they should do alternate evolutions methods for Pokemon that were originally trade evo's, like they have done with the mons that require a certain area to evolve.
I'd give an honorable mention to the Machop that you can trade for right before Whitney - especially because its gender means Miltank's Attract will be useless. I've heard so many people complain about how frustrating Whitney's Miltank is, but I got that Machop as a kid and as a result never understood why people thought it was such a difficult fight!
If I remember correctly, that machop wasn't available in the original copies. I thought I read somewhere that the Devs added the Machop trade option in to later copies because of how challenging the Miltank battle was.
She's not even that hard you lose twice. Then have a rage/spaz out and train your pokemon to level 30+ i love hunter so i all ways got a ghastly in bellspelt tower train it to evolve to hunter .
I was really happy when Galar just gave you a bunch of wild trade Pokemon just running around in the wild area. Oh hello, Gengar, Steelix, and Machamp, logistically, I shouldn't be able to find any of you in the wild, but I'm not looking a gift-horse in the mouth.
The best ones for me are the other version exclusive in game trade. Specifically the petilil-cottonee trade for me since I used the traded cottonee on my team.
Honestly, when it came to the Gyarados for Carpe Diem the Magikarp, it was somewhat worth it if you wanted a competitive Gyarados. All trades in gen 6 has at least 1 perfect IV and its usually their best stat. So that Magikarp had perfect IV in Attack
Let's not forget, exp boost from.a traded pokemon. Sure gyarados is great. But a gyarados that levels up twice as quickly? This aint a nuzlocke overlevelling is no concern of mine
Also, for the Dragonair trade: In the gen 4, Rhydon can evolve into Rhyperior, a good pokemon. Yet, they still chose Dodrio for the trade. That just felt like a kick in the face
If it was a Rhydon with Protector, it would have been a great trade, especially since in HGSS, the Protector is Mt Mortar, but you need Rock Climb to access it. And you obtain Rock Climb after Defeating Blue. What's the point of being so late than Red is the only thing to do story-wise?
I feel it's stupid as well, but i can understand beacuse of the gen 4 evoloutions not in the dex, well, i have a good idea? Instead of unlock once you visit the city, how about you get the trade once you beat the league and get the national dex?
@Bryce Pruitt wow, that's an amazing way of looking at it, I've not thought of it like that. You just put a "Free Guy" spin on the NPC's. Awesome stuff.
@@emperorcubone At least with the 3DS, you could trade online with a stranger, as most usually get the gist when you put a Trade Evo on the offer. Alas, then Nintendo got the "Brilliant" idea of locking online behind a subscription-DLC...
I was a lonely child who always kept their old consoles when they got the newer one (used) so I could usually just trade with myself because I also always collected all the versions. Also secondhand because I also grew up poor but I've always been quite lucky with finding games for a good deal somewhere.
I very fondly remember the Haunter for Alolan Graveler trade. I was not disappointed at all. That Golem was on my team the rest of the way trough. And I didn’t even mind his nickname. I wouldn’t have gotten a Gengar anytime soon, so this was a very good deal for me.
Interesting fact: I owned the strategy guide for Diamond and Pearl, and it specifically mentioned the Mindy trade. Except, the way it phrased it was something like "You might be worried that the Haunter will evolve into Gengar, but it's actually holding an Everstone, so you get a Haunter, and a free Everstone!" It framed the whole thing as an entirely positive experience.
The only time I ever used an everstone was with Fire Red and LeafGreen to prevent pokemon like Golbat from trying to evolve every time it leveled up. Other wise I never use ever stones.
@@krookodilegang6192 I used it before I beat the game, so before the national dex. I got tired of my Golbat attempting to evolve only to be unable to every time it leveled up.
Also a very good trade on x and y: When you beat the league Shauna trades you the starter pokémon that is weak to yours for any pokemon which is just amazing imo
Honestly jynx should have it’s own spot further up the list, it’s stabs are good against the 4th, 5th and 8th gym, resists most of loralies attacks and can hit half her team neutrally, completely sweeps the next 10 Pokémon in the elite 4, can hit 4 of lances mons super effectively and your rivals pigeot, rhydon venusaur/ exeggutor and in gen 1 his charizard too so it solos like 17 of the elite 4s and champions 26 Pokémon
There's also the fact that being part psychic, as we all know, is very good in gen1, and Jynx also learns one of the best sleep inducing moves in the game in the form of her signature Lovely Kiss
One trade that can literally be the worst is that trainer in Sinnoh that want your Finneon for a foreign Magikarp on route 226. Now, it's already pretty iffy (both are common enough, but Magikarp become arguably better), but there's a catch. See, the trade happens on an island, and Finneon may be your only Pokemon with Surf in your team, making you basically trapped here for a more or less huge amount of time.
@@heinzdoofenshmirtz8643 I don't understand how people can think that Giratina is Pokemon's version of Satan when Mindy exists. Meister is just a trap for the forgetful +or masochists), but he isn't actually malicious.
@@Moleoflands I could have said it better (sorry, English isn't my first language), but I did say you'd be trapped here for some time. You can also faint, which may be shorter.
The only problem with the Alola form trades in Let's Go is that the shiny rate can't be influenced by any means. Would be great if you could trade a shiny pokémon to its shiny Alolan variant.
Another really awesome trade happens in Snowbelle City in XY. If you have a Jigglypuff, you can trade it in-game for a Bisharp at level 50. Really late for a trade, but you can’t go wrong with Bisharp.
Jynx and Mr. Mime are super underrated in gen 1 and they should have been higher imo. One of the worst trades is Raichu for Electrode in gen 1. Like really? I waste my thunderstone to get a ball that doesn't even learn electric moves? wack
It's only number one because so many people are salty about it. I would argue that from a purely objective standpoint, trading a Gyrados for it's pre-evolution, a FAR weaker Magikarp (which also isn't even a difficult Pokemon to find and catch, just to add insult to injury) is a much worse deal by comparison
@@matthewkuscienko4616 perfect IV's in atk and sp atk, trade exp mechanics. Unless you're game crashes in the 10 seconds it takes to give it a rare candy it SHOULD be top 5 not bottom 5
To be fair, since traded Pokémon gain more experience, if you trade the Gyarados shortly after it evolved, it will overall take less effort to train that new Magikarp into a high level Gyarados, especially if you have EXP Share turned on.
How was the Spearow for Hawlucha trade not on the list? It’s like the Spearow for Farfetch’d trade early on, but better in every way. Hawlucha is a really good Pokémon all round, amazing attack, Roost early on, access to Karate Chop and Brick Break right off the bat (one on the Pokemon when it’s traded, the other you get from the trial) _and_ it destroys early game. The first trial is Normal, weak to its STAB Brick Break (especially Alolan Raticate) and the Grand Trial shortly after is weak to Hawlucha’s STAB Wing Attack from its great attack stat, plus Sharp Beak can be obtained easily to give it a bit of an extra kick. Best part of this is that you get Spearow on the same route of this trade, and Hawlucha is only available on the next route. So you essentially get early access to one of the best Pokemon for a playthrough for the low cost of a measly Spearow. I’d argue this should be high on the list, the only reason why I can imagine not to be on the list is because most of the others you can’t get at all (at least without trading), but it feels like the early access should count for something.
Was looking for it too! When I found this trade, I immediately realized that it gets through normal, fighting, grass and even water trial because the totem is an Araquanid, after fire, rock, then electric since it's Togedemaru, then after ghost it gets dark and is immune to ground. That's like 1/3 of the key fights in the game that it will just break.
@@king_alloy don’t forget the Elite 4. It beats Molayne’s Bisharp, Magnezone, Alolan Dugtrio and maybe Metagross (if you give it a dark move like Night Slash). It’s strong against Olivia’s entire team with fighting moves alone, with the exception of Armaldo. Same applies to Acerola’s ghost line up you keep Night Slash on it, leaving Kahili. You’re weak against Kahili’s entire team, so just forget about this trial. Finally, the champion. If you chose Primarina, you have a super effective move against 4 of his team! You can spam fighting/flying moves against his Leafeon, Tauros, Crabominable and Incineroar, to take out the bulk of his team. Against his Raichu, you can use Night Slash once more to take out 5 of his team! Nearly an entire Champion gone, just from a single Pokemon. Really makes you stop and think about how easy this E4 is, or how (slightly) inaccurate this list is.
Here'd be an interesting twist for Mindy. Knowing that people are on to her trollery with Haunter, she switches to Kadabra. "Haha! Did my KADABRA evolve into something else... wait, what? It did...? But I made it hold something that prevents it from evolving! Could KADABRA be immune to its effects...?" In fact, ever since Gen 4, Kadabra has in fact been immune to Everstone's ability to prevent evolutions. In Gen 3, all four of the Kanto trade evolutions would instead force their way through and *destroy* the Everstone in the process.
The Hoenn trades are made to be contest Pokémon with good natures for context with an extra boost to a context stat It's still a bad trade but it's sudo-justified
the gyarados-magicarp trade is awesome. you're essentially trading a gyarados for a gyarados that levels up faster and all you need to do is level up the magicarp once.
...would you believe I missed the Medicham --> Haunter trade entirely on my first playthrough of Platinum, and only heard about it later from others who'd been fooled? I'd honestly forgotten to check the houses in Snowpoint for stuff at the time because I was so excited that my Munchlax had finally evolved right before I arrived in the city.
Honestly fossil trades would be pretty great! You can usually only get one so if you breed another and then trade (probably in the postgame) although I guess that's what the GTS is for...
List of in game trades in 2nd remake of Johto: Rattata (Alolan) Geodude (Alolan) Slowpoke (Galarian) Wooper (Paldean) Growlithe (Hisuian) Vulpix (Alolan (Silver)) Sandshrew (Alolan (Gold)) Scizor for Kleavor Primeape for Annihilape (Silver) Ursaring for Ursaluna (Gold) Sneasel (Hisuian) Girafarig for Farigiraf (Gold) Stantler for Wierdeer (silver) Tauros (Paldean (Blaze for gold) (Aqua for silver)) Raichu (Alolan) Diglett (Alolan) Diglett for Wiglett Meowth (Galarian for gold and Alolan for silver) Marowak (Alolan) Tentacool for Toedscool Voltorb (Hisuian) Farfetch’d (Galarian) (Gold) Corsola (Galarian) (Silver) Exeggutor (Alolan) (Gold) Weezing (Galarian) (Silver) Mr. Mime (Galarian) The regional forms are registered in the Pokédex as forms There would also be cross generation evolutions conneted to the first 2 generations
You forgot the Jasmine trade. She will trade you anything for her Steelix. In that same town you have the chance of fishing up a lvl 100 Magikarp. The freeist lvl 100 I've ever seen.
I love the bellsprout for an onix trade. It's such a good early game pokemon though it's always hard to leave it as I don't have anyone to trade with to evolve it
Place 1 Worst: ... On the GTS Those people how want a Arceus LV. 1 for a Magikarp. Place 1 Best: ... On the GTS People who offer their pokemon for something equally good or even weaker then the one they actually offer!
I have some leaks, gen 9 is going to be based on India. And it's 100% true. They were alredy hinting towards this, see zarude based on a monkey species found in indian sub continent, movie plot was of a Tarzan and rainforest, copperajah, curry and so much
Honestly, I have not done the Medicham/Haunter trade. I was to busy doing other stuff and I already had a level 5 Gengar which I caught at the Old Chateau, with the help of LeafGreen in the GBA slot of my DS.
This list is driving me wild. This fairness for evolution stages just doesn’t matter if a no-evolution Pokémon is just better. And, Onix is one of the worst Pokémon of all time.
late response, but in hgss, they shouldve had the rhydon hold a protector, no matter your thoughts on rhyperior, its still a trade evolution and being able to use one, and get it WITHOUT trading would be worth a psuedo middle stage imo
Where I'm from we were really slow catching up with technology so it was pretty sad being quite literally the only kid in the entire neighbourhood who had or was even interested in owning a Gameboy. Trades were impossible for me.
Another bad one is a Skwovet for a Bunnelby in Sword and Shield (HONESTLY WHATS THE POINT???????). You can literally find both in the Wild Area (Bunnelby is so abundant there). Then again, another good trade is the Vanillish for Throh (In Sword) and Sawk (In Shield), since they are version exclusives (So basically you can get the opposite one in your version) and you can find Vanillish right before on Route 8.
There is a small benefit since the traded Pokémon will gain exp faster, although that particular Skwovet is guaranteed to have a mild nature which is bad for it.
If that bloody Haunter trade from Sinnoh isn't on this list I'll eat the next clump of moss a magpie throws off my roof. Edit: Thank you for not making me eat moss.
I’m such a fan of the gen 1 trades having exclusive Pokémon. They felt like side quests with a cool Pokémon as a reward. But I just wish we could’ve renamed them.
I thought of a funny way Mindy could get her just desserts, as long as they didn’t fix this. Replace the haunter for a kadabra holding a everstone. I think you know the rest~
That gyarados to magikarp trade is actually REALLY useful if you think about it. Trade pokemon exp rates. Magikarp will be the same lvl as gyarados. Give it a rare candy. Then your gyarados will lvl up a helluva lot quicker
Another unique and awesome list, my friend! A little bit of a fun fact with that Bellsprout for Onix trade, I do agree with it but ironically, Bellsprout hits harder than Onix! Only by 5 Base Attack points but….how does a flower hit harder than a rock snake? Plus, some of these bad trades makes you wonder what’s the point of it. Gyarados for a Magikarp? Unless it’s a shiny, I can’t see why anyone would agree to go back to square one.
Well the Magikarp has some good EVs or something if you care about that. But I would say to stick with Bellsprout if there wasn't a Flying and Bug type gym to worry about where it's useless...
I legit had to check twice seeing the Bellossom trade's proposal. And Corsola isn't even as rare as the 15% looks, they show up in that city all the time.
... We all know who number one is, they even got a whole subreddit for how awful it was. They could at least taught the everstone's mechanics some other way.
Funny story; in my 1st playthru of X, i saw the trade in Cillage. I then went and got a Luvdisc in the water nearby and well...the first one i fished up was a Shiny! I still have it to this day and it is one of my favourite memories of the game.
I took a moment to look up the Magikarp trade, it's not as bad as it looks. It has an adamant nature. Also what's wrong with paying for a Magikarp? Just let it soak up EXP until level 20 and you have one of the strongest non-legendary Pokemon in the game before 2nd or 3rd gym depending on the game. No matter how you slice it, it's an amazing deal. Sure you can fish one up, but not until later. Gives you a headstart.
Safe to say that we're all on the Mindy-lynch squad, right? That Haunter scam was SUCH a scummy move, and I honest to god laughed maliciously when I played Platinum with a randomizer when I made that poor Haunter evolve.
I mean, you could wait for a rare spawn of Onix much later and hope to catch it, or you can guarantee it and still catch another Bellsprout if you'd rather use that. It's a win-win to me...
Yeah, it was pretty difficult; I'd always offer up ludicrous requests like a Pumpkaboo for a Lugia so nobody would do it except for me. But I did get a free Cobalion once from someone actually taking the offer...
One that was so great for me was Drowzee for Machop in HGSS. I watched the anime as a kid & didn’t play the games until I got myself a copy of SoulSilver. My friend told me about that trade & advised I catch a female Drowzee because the Machop I would get in return would be female. Reason why this is important is because you can do this trade before Whitney’s gym, I wiped the floor with that Machop my first time fighting Whitney.
A lot of my fav Pokemon evolve through trades but I didnt have anyone to trade with in the main games -> hence, I always hated this feature of evolving. It was made even worse by the need to hold an item for some Pokemon.
The Onix-Bellsprout trade is really bad. Not only does Onix have an atrocious levelup movepool, but keep in mind that you don't have the 2nd gym badge yet. This means that once you get past level 10, it will stop obeying you. You are better off catching your own Onix right ahead in Union Cave instead which is right after Violet anyway. Bellsprout at least has a great special attack stat and movepool plus you can give it Miracle Seed after Falkner. If you have to burn tm's onto something for it to be good, it had better actually BE good. Geodude is the better early game rock type in every way.
