@user-gt7vi9jm9m Then they should have tried to fix the bug instead of hiding it. Or they could have at least swapped the Haunter for a Gengar, after all, for all intents and purposes, that was the Pokemon players would have received.
Honestly it really isn't the worst trade in gen 4 once you get over the anger. There's Buizel for Chatot by Norton; it's the only way you could get chatot this early, and its leppa berry is nice, but it has bad stats and a worse moveset; Sing and Chatter are its only redeeming qualities. Floatzel won't win tournaments but it's actually a solid pokemon. Bulk isn't amazing but it's really fast and has good enough attacking stats for an ingame playthrough, plus a better movepool. PS Chatot will disobey until you beat the second gym, and if it's even slightly overleveled it will disobey vs the next two. Apparently this thing is good in contests according to bulbapedia, idk. There's also a postgame trade of Finneon for a foreign... magikarp. I don't think I need to elaborate further. By contrast Haunter is pretty good actually, once again nothing amazing but it should know Shadow Ball at that level and has solid stats, especially for a mid-stage.
Oh man, i had the luck to find my first ever save on pokemon red, i was 7 years old and that was 18 years ago, not to my surprise i had this Lickitung, 7 year old me was scammed, poor guy, no wonder took him a huge amount of tries to beat the E4 hah (and a mvp kadabra)
- Slowbro for Lickitung: Being fair, if you only own one GB and only either Red/Blue, then this was your only way to get Lickitung, so it cannot be the worst trade. - Obstagoon for Kantonian Mr. Mime: This one is weird. Unless you get the DLC, there's no way to get the Kantonian version of Mr. Mime.
Agreed. In Generation 1, I would consider Ponyta for Seel or Raichu for Electrode as worse trades. Yes, Electrode has better speed, but it doesn’t know any electric attacks. If I really need a Seel, I will just Surf back to Seafoam Island instead of trading you my Ponyta that I caught in Pokémon Mansion and I want to evolve into Rapidash because I chose Blastoise as my starter and I want coverage for Blue’s Venusaur.
@@markmagician2471 we’re not talking about gen 1 though. Of course 500 quid for the level 5 Magikarp in gen 1 is one of the worst deals ever, but that was kinda the point back then.
The Arbok trade in USUM is actually pretty useful. It comes right before Totem Lurantis, who is a notoriously tricky boss to take down, but Arbok resists all of Lurantis' attacks, and weakens it with Intimidate. The Noibat trade in USUM is much worse
It wasn't. In-game trades were the only way to get Lickitung, Mr. Mime, and Farfetch'd in R/B. And you had to trade far superior Pokemon to get them (Slowbro, Abra, and Spearow). In Yellow, Lickitung could be found in the wild in Cerulean Cave, Mr. Mine was still available but required a bloody Clefairy to trade for, and the Farfetch'd trade was removed entirely.
That damn Haunter. Let's not forget that this is Gamefreak's shady attempt to get people to buy two games/consoles. They say 'trade with friends' but few people I knew were committed enough to Pokemon.
About Lickitung, note that it was the ONLY way to obtain it in the games it was an in-game trade in (and remember how much of a hassle trading IRL was back then, and also it was very rare in Yellow, so I would say this in-game trade is still the easiest way to fill in Lickitung’s dex entry) so I wouldn’t say it’s THAT bad of a trade. Also, Slowbro isn’t that difficult to obtain in the wild, granted if you knew where to look. It has a 25% spawn rate with Super Rod in the badge check area (as well as Seafoam Islands, albeit it’s harder to find one there) so it’s completely unnecessary to level up a Slowpoke.
The worst ingame trades, outside of the Mindy Haunter trade, in my opinion would be any where the Pokémon the NPC asks for is literally right near where they are.
Let's not forget that the Flabebe and Snom trade is pointless because of Tera Raids, I should know because I caught a Poison-Tera Type Snom very early in my journey.
if the mindy trade was irl and i had pokemon id hold her hostage with my pokemon and make her double trade back get my medicham back and give her a lvl 1 magicarp
@@Vigriff I say evolution not regional because that doesn't fix the problem, it just gives the new regional variant more popularity leaving the original in the dust. Like alolan ninetales.
I mean if you don't want Gengar and Wooper (Quagsire) to take away Galarian Meowth's spot for the best gift, then you should not include in-game trade mon as gift mon anyway (I know that means you had to choose between Castform and Wynaut, but they can be fun to use). I actually traded Boldore to Emolga in my first playthrough of White and it is kinda a MVP in my team, and the first to reach Lv 100. I understand that it seems to be a bad trade consider the opponent got Boldore to evolve to Gigalith (which apparently he didn't want and wanted the Emolga back in B2/W2). However, I think the Basculin trade is much worst, not just how bad Basculin is, but also more common than Emolga. You just need to get Surf. For Emolga, you found them from rustling grass which you mostly found Audino all the time (and some people may think you can only get Audino from those shaking grass when they played it for the first time and never get anything other than Audion or probably the fully evolve form of some of the Pokemon in the grass). What's worse about the Basculin is that the the form you got from trade is the one that you can get simply by surfing or fishing. They did not trade the the opposite form, which need to be found from rippling water. Other than that, I kind of agree with you. The Mr. Mime trade is the only way to get a Kantonian one until the DLC but an Obstagoon is too big for the cost.
Even though this doesn’t have anything to do with this list. The lickitung from Detective pikachu could have been Jessie’s. Hence the part of Ditto turning into her.
I think my favorite ingame trade is in sword and shield in the city where the water type gym is, this lady will give you a female Cottonee named Candyfloss if you give her a Minccino
I’ve used Arbok so many times in Alola (and Kalos) because I love poison types and adore Arbok. So I make that Trumbeak trade every time…whether I’m using it or not. But yea I always caught Ekans on route 2 and used that one since route 8 is so far into the game lol
If the Magikarp trade was in an earlier generation, it would actually be beneficial, since in earlier generations what ever level your traded mon is you get the same level mon in return. So now you have a Magikarp that now has an xp boost that only has to level up once to evolve. One other minor drawback is having to replace the Magikarps moves with good moves, but that's nothing the Surf HM and a few others can't take care of
I really miss the vibe of the early generations, where people were not obsessed with stat balancing and meta gaming. It causes modern fans to misunderstand things when they go back. The point of a pokemon like lickitung was to have a rare weirdo pokemon you could only get in a trade. The mystery of how that trainer caught it or what it really is was the whole point. The goal of combat was never to have all species have 3 evolutions and equal stat totals. Some pokemon are more powerful than others. That was always intended.
Honestly. I'm shocked the gen 4 remakes didn't move the NPC named Paul to the post game. And have him give you a say an Azumaril in exchange for a Honchkrow. I mean they already changed up Clair's team by giving her a Gyrados like the one she used in her gym battle with Ash.
As a mono water player that 500 dollar Magikarp came in clutch. I had a Gyarados by Lt. Surge and then I reck everything. Is there any Pokémon that solos a game every gen like Gyarados?
The only possible benefit for the trade emolga in BW is that it will gain 1.5 exp which no regular emolga can. but regardless, Im glad they fixed it in the sequels
Anything that evolves because of trading is such a kick in the pokeballs. What’s the point if you aren’t going to get the evolved Pokémon. Not all of us got the trading cords to trade or friends to trade. And I didn’t get fully involved in Pokémon until heartgold.
It was too promote kids to become friends and talk to others. I as a life long introvert never did that, I saved up my money for 2 gameboys or DS's and 1 each of the 2 games.
I feel like that is exactly the reason why we haven't gotten any trade evolutions since Alola (And no, Alolan Golem doesn't count, since its an Alternate form, so it makes sense they would keep its evolution mechanic as well).
It’s kinda sad how dirty they did some Pokémon. It’s almost like they actively hated some of their creations. Also wanted to bring up how dirty they did some of the shinies in the game. Even if they would have just color swapped then for the shiny it would have been better than some of the shinies. Lookin at you gengar
Lickitung might not be the most useful mon, but when I go to complete the Pokedex I'd much rather just have to find another Slowbro. Fuck the Safari Zone.
Honestky abother reason why the flabebe for snom trade is bad is, well, from my experince flabebe is much rare in s/v than snom, floette spawns more commonly everywhere On top of thatx even if you somehow have a flabebe to trade away before cortondo...snom is a friendship evolution. With terrible stats and wkrse movepool...what help is it going to be?
“Welcome to the Salty Spittoon. How tough are you?” Mr. Mime: “Got a bottle of ketchup?” Sure *Mr. Mime spending hours opening the bottle not remembering he is psychic*
Tbh, the trade for Magicarp is actually really good. Why? Because it’s essentially a Pokémon with 1.5x faster xp gain for only the cost of 15 levels. It’s a fair trade imo especially if you can’t do actual trades.
And the fact that it has perfect IVs is already icing on the cake. For all my play throughs on any game after I get max badges I always use traded pokemon to get through the rest of the game. I also always trade off the started and level it pretty high.
A pretty good trade because Trumbeak is more common and worse than Arbok. Also, it comes before that lurantis battle so Arbok can resist everything and do super effective damage.
@@Mysticgames136 any trade where you can literally just nab whatever they're after off the nearest roadside, is automatically a good trade, if it'll come in handy in an upcoming battle, it's a great trade, seems a certain youtuber didn't do his homework
The worst trade of every generation… hmmm… Gen 1: Giovanni. The mob boss who got beaten by a 10 year old. Gen 2: Silver. A yes, the hot topic rival. Not even the fun kind of thief. Gen 3: Tabitha. Dude got redesigned in the games that made so many horny redesigns and he got the smug treatment. Gen 4: Saturn. What’s worse than being a boring cult leader? Following the boring cult leader. Gen 5: N. What’s worse than heading a cult that’s actually based on lies? Being raised in said cult where you’re in a game that won’t even consider discussing the debate and fixating on the only person that can’t talk back. Gen 6: Xerosic. You designed the admin outfits, didn’t you? I don’t want to put the plus Sized guys on this list but wow he’s a creep. Gen 7: Gladion. Sorry, just… why all of the Chunibyou poses? Lillie really should’ve been the main character. Gen 8: Piers. Dude literally sent out his fans to stalk his baby sister. I’d put Rose here but they went for a bad environmentalism story instead of making him the Mammon to Leon’s Fizzaroli. Gen 9: Turo. Im sorry, Professor Dilf, but you really sucked as a parent. Heck, your AI is more of a parent than you ever were.
Call me crazy but I actually did the Boldore for Emolga trade but my reason was that I couldn't get an Emolga encounter at all no matter how much I tried
The only thing i learn here is... Someone just don't tried to use Quasire or even Gengar's full potential in game... And that my english is way worst then a Haunter with a stupid Everstone... 😂😂😂
How is haunter for medicham not number one on this list? The huge fuck you of getting a haunter holding an everstone made me quit for the next 3 generations.
Please pin my suggestion on updating the ranking videos of the Gym Leaders, Elite Four, and Champions, Mystic! Might I also add the evil teams and rivals too! 🙏
I think Gen 4 pokemon version having the worst ingame trade of all: buizel for chatot (Eterna Condominium); medicham for haunter (can't evolve) (Snowpoint CIty); and a Hiker named Meister in the house in Route 226 (Pokemon Platinum) will trade you his German Magikarp for a Finneon (which could softlock the game). Only oreburgh city ingame trade was ok (machop for abra). Thanks mystic for all your video. Love it!~
The arbok trade can actually be incredibly worth it for a nuzlok run. Guaranteed intimidate is always worth it. Trumbeak is a lot easier to come by in a nuzlock than an ekans.
