I mean barry single handedly carried the 90's LIONS to winning seasons. I mean yes dickerson was a beast. But in todays NFL i don't think he would be as effective. Barry on the other hand, his skill set is timeless. 10 years over 1100 yards every year. Pro bowl every year. You can't teach someone how to defend barry sanders. You have to teach multiple men to tackle barry sanders and a lot of times even that didn't work. Lol I would definitely take Barry #1.

Because every team back then was dog shit. Athletes were weak. Look at what 1 average athlete did in that era. Marino, Jerry rice, primetime. They dominated. Any of those players now would be average starters at best now
@MrBroawesome
@MrBroawesome 5 лет назад
Taylor Klock you mean back when you could actually hit people, nobody whined about concussions, and nobody was prissy pratting around. This guy says Eric Dickerson based solely on stats, Payton would have broken the single season record had it been a 16 game season in ‘77. Even comparing eras, you think Jim Brown and Dick Butkus have any issue trouncing people in this era of football? Ronnie Lott and Gayle Sayers would still work over guys in this era. Equipment and hyper specialized training have no doubt changed athletes ability to run faster and hit harder, but it doesn’t make you tougher and that’s one of the most important traits any player can have. Emmitt Smith was tough as nails, Walter Payton was the same but more athletic, and I’m a diehard Cowboy fan. You can’t put Emmitt in the list and leave off Sweetness.
@ryanavery3066
@ryanavery3066 5 лет назад
MrBroawesome so you’re just gonna overlook how athletes back then didn’t have the same training, nutrition, and technology we have now? You would be saying the same thing about Randy Moss if he played in the 80s
@MrBroawesome
@MrBroawesome 5 лет назад
Ryan Avery the biggest effect on performance by far is the technological advancement in equipment in sports. By and large the strength, speed, agility of top tier athletes in the past are comparable to athletes of today. What I’m arguing is that greatness transcends eras when it comes to football. Plus it’s not like Payton played in the 30s, the 80s wasn’t that long ago. Its not like we are a different species than we were 40 years ago. Prime time Payton would perform the same if not better with today’s equipment against today’s competition.

Barry and Jim Brown are the only backs to average 5ypc/100ypg. Barry did it for ten years straight. Brown for nine, with shorter seasons and smaller and slower defenses. No other backs are anywhere near them. Peterson is closest with 4.4/88. The rest of the top backs are around the 4.2/82 range. Barry had 1,000+ yards in every season. One of those seasons he played 10 games. He averaged 1,500 yards per season. Would have been 1,600 had he not missed those games in that year.

I love that you value yards over TDs. One and two in their prime should be LT and Priest Holmes.

dorsett in his first 3 years only carried the ball 15 to 19 times a game was second in all time rushing only to Walter Payton for 10 years.and is still number 12 on the all time rushing yards list and played 3 years when there were still 12 game seasons
@joseywales4874
@joseywales4874 2 года назад
Exactly. These people don’t understand. Dorsett is top 5 period. In the 80s his line was sub par. Compare that to Emmitt and his line and you come to a realization.

1. Barry Sanders - moves galore 2. OJ Simpson - speed kills 3. Jim Brown - bruiser + speed 4. Eric Dickerson - size + great speed 5. Gayle Sayers - Barry before Barry 6. Walter Payton - total package

Walter didn't have blazing speed. OJ did everything mentioned on the list including running tough in between the tackles like Jim Brown

Outlines the criteria as 3-4 seasons... Immediately proceeds to hit Earl Campbell for not producing beyond the criteria of 3 to 4 seasons.

ED is my favorite RB of all-time but JB, BS, OJ, and Walter were better. He has a point though. ED in His prime was as good as anyone. Retired #2 all-time on a part-time schedule. Easily could have been #1. Even JB once said that ED could have broken every rushing record. The guy was awesome.

Finally someone saying it. Love Sanders...how can you not?...but Dickerson was faster than Sanders, hit harder: knocked people on their butts like Campbell at times, but didn’t need to as much because he hit holes faster than anyone other than LaDanian. Only guy I might take over Dickerson for potential in a 3-4 year stretch is Bo, but we sadly never got to witness Bo be truly Bo.

Idk, Earl Campbell from 1978-1980 vs. Eric Dickerson 1983-1986 vs. Terrell Davis 1996-1998 vs. AP 2007-2009. Hard to choose honestly. In the 90s, you either liked Emmitt Smith or Barry Sanders. LT completely owned the 2000s as a RB. Derrick Henry from 2018-2020 though.

Dickerson was a good number 1 with 6,968 in 4 seasons (62 games). Co number 1 is OJ Simpson with 6448 rushing in 4 seasons 1973-1976 (56 games). Also Barry Sanders 6,989 in 4 seasons (64 games). Also Jim Brown would have similar numbers. No one else is close.

No disrespect to Barry, Emmitt and AP, but Marshall Faulk from 99-01 and LT 03-06 was unreal statistically. All purpose monsters

Defenses could never key on him. They were all spread out. Just sayin'. The other people mentioned here were looking at 8 in the box a whole lot. Faulk was definitely better than E Smith though.

Barry Sanders is my number ONE. Eric Dickerson did it with a good Offensive line. Barry did it on his own. If you're big and get time to get up to full speed, you're going to be hard to bring down.

Dickerson did have a good Oline many years, but never ever had a QB worth two cents. Everybody on the planet knew Dickerson was getting the football and they still couldn’t stop him. He doesn’t get the credit he deserves because people say he had an attitude problem, that wasn’t it, he was the greatest and wanted to get paid.
