That was a really good episode guys, thanks. I like how you take us along on your adventures, I really appreciate it and it’s very interesting. By now, there can be no question, you’ve built up your immunity to food bugs😂. You also look so comfortable in third world countries now, a far cry from Kevin’s first few days in Cairo😅

Thanks so much for watching, Dan! We had such a great time in Hoi An and the surrounding areas. As far as immunity to food bugs, Hoi An had a great restaurant culture and overall it was very clean for eating. It's was a much easier situation than Saigon for sure. And Egypt was initially unnerving, but we got much more comfortable by the end of it! Luxor and Aswan were easier out of the gate than Cairo, but maybe that's because we had some successful food experiences under our belts by then! -Judy

Thank you so much for watching! Honestly, the food during the tours we took were actually all delicious. Sure the beef blood cube was a little out there, but you certainly could have skipped it. Otherwise, the food we cooked had no unfamiliar ingredients that would have made me hesitate. I was glad that the staff at Red Bridge prepped some ingredients like the shrimp so they were already cleaned for us to use and we didn't have to remove the head and peel them first! Thank you so much for watching! Did you see that I responded to your email. Thank you again for sending those beautiful pictures! We loved seeing them! -Judy

Hi Rebecca, we were more intentional here than we were the first time around, which helped. We had come off of two months of relaxing, slow travel and had the energy to really dive into all the tours. We also wanted to give Hoi An our best effort after the not great experience we had in Saigon. I think Saigon was probably the least touristy place, but because we were so uncomfortable, we didn't push our food choices as much (although we did a good amount there!), and we didn't explore nearly enough. It helped to have Nguyen share his insights about what was touristy or not. We wish we would have spent some time at the Mekong Delta when we were in Saigon. Hoi An is definitely beautiful and it's great when you leave the crowds. -Judy

This was another great video! Always full of interesting facts & history. The culture experiences you both are having are getting my husband & I more prepared for our journey. We are so thankful for all your advice. Those mats are beautiful! ☺️ Also, the ginger type dessert you were given that is saved for special occasions must have been so nice to try! All these people you come in contact with seem so kind! That is a big part of wanting to travel, looking forward to meeting some more kind people around the world. 😊

Thanks for watching, Carolann! The ginger cake was homemade by our guide using his Cham friend's recipe. I'll post it to our website soon! We have been very fortunate to have met some wonderful people on our adventures. We hope you meet even more terrific people on your journeys, too. It's definitely one of the highlights of traveling and makes it easier when our friends and family are far away. We hope the people on our travels and our viewers will be lifelong friends! -Judy

Judy & Kevin, a few side note questions... where have you both gotten your hair done while traveling over in SEAsia? Wondering where you felt comfortable doing this. Also, I'm sure you mentioned this but how does you phone service work everywhere? Have you had any issues and what is a good plan that seems to work for you? Thank you
@FindingGinaMarie
@FindingGinaMarie 3 месяца назад
@@owlscoffeecats Oh Carolann, the stories I could tell about my hair! And problems apply equally in Europe as they do in Southeast Asia! I'll link one early article from our website below! Before leaving the US, I was using Aveda salons. They typically cost more, but they are more consistent and I know they have products that won't harm my hair. However, those salons are few and far between. I've learned to be reasonably flexible and try to treat it as patiently as possible! In Scotland I had to get a swatch test 24 hours in advance before they could color my hair. Someone I had in France was very difficult to communicate with and didn't have enough confidence in her own skill to trust what we were doing. A stylist in Cyprus gave me some bad advice, and someone in Poland *thought* she understood what I wanted and ended up giving me highlights that I didn't want and then colored over them. It's been a bit of a mess everywhere! It's going to be much easier if you aren't coloring your hair, but I don't let that deter me. I always look for a salon that has a high number of positive reviews. It's a bonus if they specifically say they speak English (but the person in Poland was supposed to speak English, so what can I say). What works well is to use Google translate and exchange details. I try to use WhatsApp or Facebook or Google to book online without having to call. I also have gone into the shop in advance to schedule an appointment because it's easier to do in person when you're able to gesture what you want to have done. I've had great experiences as well, but it has been the luck of the draw. I travel with a photo of what I want it to look like. That helps, but not fully! And even going to an Aveda salon doesn't always mean they're going to give you exactly the color you want (unfortunately!). The color system is not consistent all over the world, so you have to (1) be comfortable with a swatch book and know the color you want; or (2) trust the stylist to understand what you're asking! I don't think the inconsistency is due to anything more than using terminology that doesn't completely translate. I think most of the stylists know what they're doing, but they don't always know what *I* want because their terminology is different. Kevin doesn't get his cut as often (I go monthly), but he's only had one not great haircut this entire time. He's not coloring his hair and his cut is fairly straightforward. That helps! But again, he looks for highly rated shops and typically is able to show up and get his hair cut straight away without really waiting. He had to schedule an appointment in Serbia, but I don't think anywhere else (and he was very happy with that cut!). 📝findingginamarie.com/articles/sombrero-haircut-anyone?rq=sombrero

@@owlscoffeecats As far as our phone service, we use T-Mobile's Magenta Plan. We pay $50 apiece for an international data plan that we purchase as an add-on and it gives us each 15 GB of data. Our phone number doesn't change, we have unlimited talking and texting, so we have no problem with receiving bank verification codes. You could potentially get less data than we do, but for what we do, it's the right amount. There is no place that we've traveled to where our data plan hasn't worked. I hope this helps! -Judy

😂🎉 "the stories I could tell about my hair..." 😊 thank you so much. Yeah, I am already thinking it will be an adventure for hair! 😊 That's ok, it's all part of the experience! My husband's doesn't color his hair and his is pretty straight forward too, so the "Kevin cut", would be simple for my husband as well.

Thank you for your time and posting. I actually enjoy Fish Sauce, but I always buy expensive ones. I've watched many videos, and many have a guide. Would you happen to have suggestions on how to get a guide? Thank you. I'm not really interested in doing touristy stuff. The things you did in this video were what I was looking for. Looking to see if I want to retire in VN. Thank you again.

Thanks for sharing these tips and unique tours. They came across as a much more intimate local experience than a giant bus stopping to unload 50 people for a 10 minute photo bomb in a site, as everyone jumps back on to repeat over and over. Whoops with that said.... What was the average tour group size?😮🤔🌞

Thanks for watching! We really had a great experience and actively seek out authentic experiences whenever we can. Our first tour with all the local experiences was just us, the cooking class had two other people (a couple), and we had a solo trip to My Son Sanctuary. We typically only do small group tours, but tourism still is significantly down in many of the places we visited in Southeast Asia (which is why we want to encourage people to take these tours and support these great guides). -Judy
