I cut mine like the first one, except I put it in the sink, less mess. I slice it thinner then put it in the bowl because you get mostly all equal parts, since the center is the best taste.

Well if it's just water then it's probably still edible it might just taste a little weird. Sponging it is for presentation, just like garnishing a dish.

Crazy Kat2001 I would not eat it after a sponge has gone over it, even if it were a brand new sponge. I think it is a waste to let watermelon go for waste. Who knows maybe their watermelons don't tatse as good as they do in Australia and therefore are okay to use them as garnish instead of devouring them.
