In 1972, I worked for Byers Chrysler Plymouth in Columbus, OH. They were delivering the new cars for the Ohio State Highway Patrol. They were 440's and allegedly had a Racer Brown cam in them. When I would be bringing them down from the roof storage, they were like caged animals, loping and loading up. BEASTLY!!

I can’t stand a video like this. The narrator knows nothing about cars. The one video is showing the dash of a car with aftermarket gauges and a tach. What the hell. You would have never found this stuff in a cop car. Wow! Get it right or don’t do it.

Amen! Show the factory "cop gauges". Also, LT 1 in 1978😂😂😂😁. Very good comment!!!👍

Just a guess but narrator could be AI. In which case it's just narrating a script, in which case whoever wrote it doesn't know much about police patrol vehicles in particular.

In 1970 gm had Caprice state cop cars with 454 cu in motors . I was late for work I pulled out in front of one not recognizing the new model. I floored my 67 Chevelle 327,275 hp 308 gears with afew Goody's. When he pulled me over he said he was going 120 and I was pulling away from him. 😮🎉 Good time's

I belonged to a Car Club back in the late 1960's and early 1970's, We had all the police engine specs, none of the Police specials were as hot as the best High performance big blocks from the Big three. Example a police interceptor 428 or 429 didn't hold a candle to, the 428 or 429 super cobra jet. The 454 police interceptor was a LS5 a LS6 as found in the SS454 Chevelle would blow the police interceptor off the road. The 440 Mopar was a basic 375 hp Magnum a 440 6 pack or a Hemi would eat them for breakfast. We tried all the police interceptor Engines; they were all lack luster. Some had some good heavy-duty parts, they were not close on power output.

Pontiac had some good ones too Lemans 455 Interceptors etc. - even The Sheriff's dept in Catoosa County Georgia ran Souped 77-79 400 4 spd Trans Ams with Headers etc. - The Sheriffs 79 Trans Am had a built 455 Pontiac V8 Fastest of the Fleet - Sheriff mentioned there wasn't nothing that we couldn't catch plus we knew the roads - in the 60's the Sheriff drove GTO's Gutsy but couldn't handle like his Trans Am's 🚔🚁😎

In Catoosa Co. GA in the late 1970's - early 1980's Catoosa Co. Sheriff J.D Stewart used the Pontiac Trans Am.. Every Deputy had a Trans Am to drive while on patrol.. All had the 400 pontiac engine, most were automatics some 4spd's .. They were phased out around 1985. because the newest T/A's were 79's ( also 78's were still in service mixed in with the 79's ) and sourcing parts and the cost of keeping T/A's with 200,000 miles on the clock became to expensive and time consuming to keep them on the roads. Also J.D Stewart passed away and a new sheriff was elected. I believe Motor Trend did an article on them in the early 1980's that can be found on-line if you google Catoosa Co. Trans Am's

Lost interest during the first one. He says Caprice but most of the time police used Impalas. And the first cop car photo shown is an Impala. I should have known it would be like this. The title refers to forgotten icons. Oxymoron. Icons aren't forgotten. Why is there so much auto BS on youtube?

Yet another dreadful AI video. I'm actually very interested in this topic, like everyone else who clicked on it. But when we hear engines called out as "Four hundred and forty" or "Three hundred and fifty", and of course the "A-seven hundred and twenty-seven transmission", we know we're in trouble. And then a car's weight is expressed in kilograms. Peeps, these are AMERICAN cop cars and we measure weight in pounds here. And in yet another segment, they talk about the '78 Dodge Monaco and show a '78 Plymouth Fury. The only good thing I can say about this abortion of a video is that at least it named some unusual and very cool cop cars, like the Javelin and the Falcon, that I'll research elsewhere.

The police package Malibus did not come with LT1 engines. The 350 going in Camaro Z28s at the time only made about 175 hours power. And the bucket seats available were nowhere near “Recaro” style other than being bucket seats. The square body Impalas of the late 70s through the end of the model in 1990 weren’t all that fast, with the 78 350s only having 175 or so horse power. No police sedan during those days were very powerful. I recall that by the 70s the Ford 428 PI had been replaced by a 429. The Dodges and Plymouths were the standouts during the 70s because they held onto as much performance as they could for as long as they could. Incidentally this video is lousy and further less than credible because the AI doesn’t have any connection to reality and pictures of the Matador is inserted for just about every other car featured.
