Top Alternatives To These 5 Overpriced Whiskies 

I am staying away from 43% ABV chill filtered whiskies, especially the expensive ones. Wonder how many of your followers would think of buying any of these overpriced whiskies in the first place! You might want to do a list of the best single malts under $100 USD!

I loved this video and the idea behind it. IMHO, companies had to increase the prices due to all the issues around the pandemic and all the other shenanigans that's happening in EU... someone had to pay and as the concept of increase the taxes for the richer, maybe they opted to increase the price the their "premium" offerings so they can still sell their regular, sometimes, undesirable, offerings to the masses. Time will tell, thanks again for the great content you're putting out here

Hi Matt, a useful video indeed...prices of the HP 18 jumped a "first" time in 2007 for the "sober pre-Viking revamp" and here in France, they basically doubled its price ! Luckily I had bottles in advance of it, in its older style (chill filtered & coloured but damn good with some older casks content in the recipe) & got the 2007+ one on offer, now not buying it anymore, we'll see later on when all bottles will be finished, clearly i'll replace it with an indie HP if needed, same for others brands...."Mac'n'Dal" wise, was lucky to get the Dalmore K.A. a decade ago at cut price & i enjoy it, it's a good batch, but will never buy today's batches (apparently less good) when it'll be finished, etc, etc...Great alternatives for those I know (alas more difficult to find for the Canadian ones here) & hope the return to Canada wasn't too difficult, my friend ! Looking forward to hear more about your journey there but thanks for the wee videos on Insta & here, cheers !

For some of us in a tight budgets some prices are just ridiculous, 20 years ago you could still find very good whisky with age statements at reasonable prices, not cheap but reasonable.

I'm somewhat picky when it comes to the whisky channels (don't subscribe/enjoy some of the much more popular ones than yours in terms of the number of likes out there) but yours I've been a fan of for a good few months now. Thank you. So right! The Macallan, Dalmore are whiskies for people to show off and who don't know what they are doing imho. The new rich. HP is borderline. And I am glad to have the Redbreast 12 CS, the GD 18, GD 21, Arran 18 and 21 at home. One bottle each. All bought as a 2nd bottle a while ago when it was still affordable - wouldn't do so today (I never spend more than 100 Euros - GD and Arran 18 were 70 Euros). The old Macallan 12 Sherry Cask (35 Euros many years ago) is still a solid whisky. I hope that my stock lasts a while. If you really like a whisky (to drink, not to collect) get more than one bottle. They don't go bad.

Bunnahabhain 18 used to be decent value and I think you can find it still but maybe hard to find in Canada. Matt the Macallan 18 is over $900 in Alberta at the moment. Absolutely ludicrous.

Interesting choices, I was anticipating the usual Glenfarclas / Glenturret / Tamdhu / Glendronach instead of Macallan / Dalmore. I definitely was not expecting Redbreast or Arran so that was cool! I buy my Macallan or Dalmore from SMWS (except for the King Alex III). You have to be quick but you can usually get an unmolested bottling for a lot less money. Not overly familiar with Canadian whisky and I haven't tried the Alberta 20yo but I love the cask strength version. The Lot40 cask strength is also a fantastic one. HP18 will always be on my shelf despite the pricing. I keep a few IBs but they aren't the same. These days there are more than a few where I just have to swallow hard and hand over the money. I don't really worry too much about age, CF or colouring nowadays so that opens up a lot more variety in the lower price ranges too.

💯% agreed got IBs only of HP, from young to old aged, zero OBs, the Cask Orkney 18 is great to, it's a 15yo bottling by now, still great, def less Sherry influence to none though, compared to the OB HPs

I tried some of your listing, never bought one….due to increase in prices I started to buy blended single malt….I bet you do a blind test and got very surprise….now my favourites are Arran, Dewars 21, ledaig, glencadam, any Kirkland single malt that you see before is sold out in a week, and some other cheaper ones

Would you buy the Macallan 18 Sherry for 279$ US? I found it in our military store the other day. Curious if it’s worth it for that price.

Great suggestion video, but you missed one bottle I think needs more attention. The Ancnoc 18. Also the Springbank 21 and 25 are overpriced and the Craigallachie 23 is the perfect alternative.

Prices are totally out of control. I don’t see how these distilleries will survive without the sales. Who is buying whiskey at 500+ it can’t be that big a market. Same with bourbon here in the US my cap is 150 and that only happened once I got a Maccallen 15 year which in my area usually runs 180-200 dollars so I had to jump. But I’m not going to chase unicorns or pay the secondary market price for alcohol ever. Even if I won the lottery I can’t justify paying ridiculous prices for booze. In my house I drink everything bourbon rye’s finished scotch whatever but they are 25- 90 dollars for what I drink and I’m happy with that. Enjoy!!
