I wouldn't have gotten this setup without you. I found it yesterday in the dumpster in Hon arkansas. Hadn't been used. In fact I found 2 different filters. BRAND NEW. I just put my mystery snails outside in a large barrel. All I need is a heater. Back again today. 😮
Thank you very much for making this video! I got this as my first canister filter for my new 75gal, and I couldn't understand the instructions that came with it. This video is a life-saver! Thank you thank you!!!!
Thanks for this, I got the 200 for my goldfish and was starting to feel put off by complaining reviews but you made it very simple to setup the connection so i can lower the flow for my fancies while still having all that media space.
I own the TopFin Pro 200 I love it big filter, lots of room for bio media, which is always a plus, in fact it holds more media than fluval fx6 which I also own. What most people fail to realize is that this version of Top Fin is a rebrand of Eheim Pro 5E 700, it’s an awesome filter and really not hard at all to navigate this piece of art. And extremely quiet also.
You are the best. Your channel is amazing. I'm new to the hobby and I'm all about your videos! My husband and I are huge Sci fi nerds so we loved the Battlestar Galactica reference.
I purchased this Pro 120 on sale in January and just read the consumer reviews and thought about about returning it because of these problems. I decided to look for videos on this filter before I return it. I'm convinced after watching your video that I've made a good investment and will keep it. Thank you kindly for your very informative video. Please post an update with your experience since your install along with a review of your media choice. Thank you again.
@@FishyReview can you tell me why when I connect my filter to the internet it connects but just goes to the routers website (spectrum) and after connecting I can no longer access any website to bring up filter controls? Is it my router security?
Appreciate the video. Bought one in September of 2021 and couldn't get it working properly and there were not very many helpful videos.had to wait until now to finally get it going
Hey there. Thanks again for the video. I just picked up the Pro200 and everything is working fine. I'm a complete newbie to canister filters btw so excuse the ignorance. One thing I noticed is that the spray bar did not have a plug. Did yours come with a plug to ensure the output is maximized to the spray ports? Or is meant to have an open end? Thanks
No the spray bar needs to be closed on the end. Sounds like you should call customer service and get a replacement since it was made incorrectly, assuming you bought it new.
@FishyReview Yeah. I ended up emailing them. They said they would send me a new one. After opening it, I believe it was previously opened and then returned. They almost convinced me it was brand new, that's how well it was repackaged. But Eheim never responded to my last email. I ended up returning it. I just picked up a couple Marineland 360 for a GREAT deal! I hear those have some issues too, but I'm crossing my fingers. So now I have two of those 360 for less than the TopFin that I got on clearance! Still a little bummed though because the filtration rate was much higher.
Ok, so I have the pro 200. I have been fighting with it for over a day trying to get it to stay running for more than 5 minutes. Its brand new, the tank is clean, and it keeps saying that its too dirty to work. I'm disconnecting it from the wifi to see if that helps... if not, apparently I have to drill a hole behind the light thru the wifi circuit board... but then it'll only work on full blast all the time. I 100% recommend spending the extra on a fluval fx3 or fx4, this pro fin is a nightmare.
Oof! I’ve not had any problems like that. Of course it’s always possible that it’s defective and a call to the support line may help you resolve it. Being connected to WiFi doesn’t have any effect on how dirty it thinks it is. I hope you get it figured out!
You have to get the Eheim versions: eheim.com/media/pdf/ed/eb/96/2076_78_2178_prof5e_Filter_Anleitung.pdf and eheim.com/media/pdf/b3/dd/f1/2076-2178_2274_prof5e_Software.pdf. Hope that helps!
I had my pro for 6 months now and it really is a great filter. For the hose and the company didn't come up with a clamp, USE a hose clamp the kind a car uses.
If may offer a suggestion about connecting the piece of hose to the pipette; Boil yourself a bit of water, dunk the piece of hose into the boiling water for a few seconds... I found it only takes less than 30 seconds to make the piece of hose pliable - just enough to easily push the hose over the pipe ends.
@@FishyReview do any of the non-manual modes work for you? everytime i use one it just drops output to about half and doesn't change regardless of mode/setting/time
Thanks for the video! Got one of these for free, thought about throwing it away because it's not a top brand.... but after this video I think it will do its job and save me a lot of money !
PLEASE When you turn the on Position To the off. Underneath when you pull it OUT the LID, The two holes that filtered the water. I have a cone piece of plastic that goes into it supposedly.. How does that work
Outstanding question! I had to open mine up to try to figure out what you mean. I believe you mean the red cone shaped thing that could double as a UFO. It goes on the left side next to the ON label. Make sure it's down in there flat and not crooked.
So I figured out why you couldn’t get the tank to prime and fill up, the return line has to be above the waterline. Hubby and I struggled and struggled, then I followed the instructions to the absolute literal literal meaning and it worked flawlessly. Got my wall all wet with each pump of the primer, but walls clean and it was so worth it.
Can you please elaborate a bit more?? The return line needs to be above the water line. What do you mean by that? I’m driving myself crazy trying to get the 200 to work right now
I think as long as the intake screen never comes out of the water that it would be no problem for the tank to be half full. I'd say that for any canister filter.
I have been running a hang over the edge filter and two sponge filters. Do I need to keep the sponge filters in until the bio balls collect media? Or is it ok to just swap out? Thanks for any help you can offer
Oh I would definitely keep the sponges for a good month. Also if the media from your HOB would fit in one of the canister trays, you might rinse it out and put it in there too. You don’t want to cause your tank to cycle. I’m always really careful when switching to a new filter.
I hope you were able to get it figured out. You. wed to make sure you get the canister as full of water as you can and it helps to pull the output line out of the tank while you are priming it with the button on top.
I recently purchased a top fin 120 an I'm having all kings of problems my filter won't stay running the longest if gotten it to run for is 2hrs an it shots off I have to unplug it an Connect back to it for it to come on I've watched your videos 100 times I've even updated it an that made it worse it wouldn't com on at all so I had to un update .
I wish I was there to help. You should try to contact Eheim Support to see if they can help. I've never had mine shut off so I don't know why it would do that.
Hello I was having same issue where it would run for some time then shut off. Found a thread that said deactivate the wi-fi function. I did and now it hasn't stopped running. It's unfortunate cause the app had really cool features, however I just need it to work properly and clean tank. Hope this fix works for you.
This was an interesting comment. I’ve now been watching mine since you wrote this and it’s staying between 75 and 90 GPH on a 55 gallon tank that’s only 7 inches off the floor. Not having much drop surely affects it in my case. It only shows 5% pollution. I think one problem is just having this extra info. I know my canister filters are often pushing a lot less water than they can because I need to clean them or pull plants off the intake. I wouldn’t want to have a measurement of my flow on my Marineland one in the house right now!
What if when you go to connect it to your home wifi it just goes to the wifi router website in my case spectrum? Can't get back to the Filter website just takes me to my router?
@@brettcoyle2399 tried that and still doesn't work, must not work with certain wifi, stuck using the wifi the filter makes so I can't set up email notifications
You can reset it from the menu when connected to it with your phone. I’m guessing maybe you can’t access it from your phone and want to start over. I didn’t think to cover this in the video but there’s a button on top under the LED indicator light. Hold that for 5-8 seconds to reset the unit.
It certainly starts running without the WiFi smart features. I can't say that I'm sure what mode it starts by default but that would be all you would get. I would say if you don't want that feature, do yourself a favor and buy a cheaper filter. Unless you get this one on a steep sale, it's quite pricey.
This is one of those things that if I were standing there in the room with you and the filter, then I bet we could get it figured out. But it's really hard otherwise. I would suggest contacting Eheim support and hopefully they can help you through it. One of these days, I'll make another video to try to cover some of these issues.
I just got the pro200 and I can't get it going for the life of me the link doesn't work and it won't stay running it'll run when I first plug it in then it'll stop and the light will flash
I have found that it will do that if water isn't flowing. When you push down the priming button does it make water "swooshing" noises? Is the cannister and inlet hose completely full of water? Good luck to you, I hope you can figure it out!
@@FishyReview well both lines were filled with water I filled the canister itself and still nothing but I did finally getting working and honestly it took removing the wifi part of the filter and it's been running since it setup on a reef tank so I'm ok with all the water movement I can get lol

I hope you got it eventually. It helps to really fill the canister up to the top…so much that it will probably gush when you put the top on. Also it should help if the output is out of the water while you prime it.
I would really check all seals, hose connections, and the assembly where the hoses connect to the top. If it says that just for a little while after opening it then that just means it hasn’t got all the air out yet.

Canisters I've had are all pretty much the same essential design, it's true. I've never had a plain Eheim filter though I remember wanting one years ago as back then in the 90's my friends basically thought it was the holy grail, but I couldn't afford one.
Thanks for the video I have been away from the fish scene for a while but I guess i am back and this is the pump I went with . I was debating on taking it back and getting the fuval but maybe I'll keep it I think it seems easy enough and should do the job .
