I keep saying It's good to see you back- you're legit one of my favorite essayists on the platform and the sincerity you imbue your work with is so goddamn infectious. It's inspiring! (more people need to talk about The Rehersal- that final episode and all the meaning from that last scene's my favorite beat in TV this year.)

5. God of War: Ragnarök - I'm not like you Bailey, I don't view video games the same way as you. I value innovation over immersion, I'll always prefer games that tell stories that only games can tell like Papers, Please and Outer Wilds over more traditionally cinematic experiences like The Last of Us. God of War is an inexplicable exception. Not since The Lord of the Rings have I seen something that is this epic and this intimate simultaneously, the characters and themes and comedy are all so beautifully executed that the medium doesn't matter, it's a story I can't help but adore. 4. Fresh - Not a particularly complex pick, just a pitch perfect horror-thriller with magniflorious complimentary performances from Daisy Edgar-Jones and Sebastian Stan. It's one of those movies that tonally feels like it was made for me. 3. The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe - The Stanley Parable was already perfect, it said everything there was to said and didn't need any expansion or sequel. And Ultra Deluxe knows this all too well, and uses its existence to comment on the nature of dumb, forced, pointless, nostalgia-bait sequels in our intellectual property obsessed world. It's a bucket-load of brilliance. 2. Everything Everywhere All At Once - Come on, you know why this is here. I shouldn't have to explain just how good this movie is, but having ADHD and subscribing to the philosophy of Optimistic Nihilism certainly doesn't hurt. 1. The Owl House - You would not think much of this from the outside, and it doesn't grab you from minute one. It's a show that requires patience and trust before you really get invested in it; but I'd like to make myself believe if you give it your time, you will fall in love with everything this show offers. I have never been more emotionally invested in a story than this one, full stop. For me it was episode 5 when I realized the potential this show had, and it more than fulfilled triple what I expected was possible from that potential. Best gay witch show of all time.

I could not agree more. The Rehearsal is IT. I stumbled upon it by accident, and thought the first episode was hilarious thinking each episode would be like that, and then with each subsequent episode just got deeper and deeper. I laughed, I cried.

glad to see The Northman mentioned, absolutely deserved better and the news that Dafoe and Eggers are collaborating a third time with Nosferatu has me even more pumped for that movie than I thought I could be

It’s unfortunate that Horizon keeps on getting ignored because it releases close to a major anticipated video game release. Gotta check out Primal, been meaning too for a bit. That being said you absolutely have to play Devil May Cry 3.
