@@Lewis_Treff97 Correct - I have a MK5 GTI as my 2nd car, first one I bought with my own money - wanted a non rust bucket with a manual and the classic tartan seats - took me 3 months to find one after looking nearly every day and touring the country every weekend. The dream spec was a white two door with the tartan and a manual 'box but they are rarer than rocking horse shit, let alone finding one in good condition. I would like to thank Ben for speaking to us so much. After all this time silent, it is about time he shares his wisdom.

Nice clip, bros! It vibes like a proper car review from the proper top gear when the GTI was voted car of the year by non other than Jeremy Clarkson himself!

2004 you still had MG TVR and Saab going strong. You had the launch of the Monaro VXR and Ford GT. Max Power and The fast and furious was at a high peak at the time too

Strong is a well... strong word, but I sure do miss those three! (Yes, I don't really consider modern MGs to be "real" MGs)

@@laurensnieuwland4657 True I'm just saying they were all in a crisis then but MG and TVR lasted till 2008 I think Where as Saab lasted till end of 2011.

I think it was either seat belt or handbrake lol

Handbrake light alongside the ABS light. But I would imagine vdub would have unplugged the ABS sensor to allow handbrake turns for more dramatic scenes for the video. That or it's just suffering 20 year old Volkswagen commonalities.

I don't even have 1% of Ben Collin's ability behind the wheel, but I have owned a MK5 GTI and an EP3 Type-R. The MK5 GTI is in almost every way a much better car, though it needs a remap to let the top end stretch its legs. It also has such high limits that it's hard to enjoy on normal roads while being vaguely sensible. The EP3 CTR is fairly compromised in every day driving, but on the right road, that engine and gearbox combination can be magical, and the car feels a bit nervous at times, which allows you to have a lot of fun while not doing silly speeds. Oh, and my MK5 had a bit of a rust issue, which to be fair VW sorted after a bit of persistence. I only had the EP3 for 3 years (vs 9 for the Mk5) so it's not really a fair comparison.

The bargain modern classic of the moment - drove one for the first time recently and was so impressed- buy one whilst they’re cheap.
