I love how the funniest part of this was ironically Richard being dissapointed after his voice didn't change and the other two laughing even harder lmao
Shock Horror. This must be one of the few Top Gear episodes I've never seen. I've seen this clip in many "best of" compilations but never understood why Richard was disappointed as I'd never seen the explanation. Brilliantly funny.
@@Kyharra ...... I totally agree and I totally got it - watching this full clip for the first time - but the point I was making is that previously I've only ever seen a much shortened clip which just shows Hammond getting out of the car with no explanation of the trial he was doing. In isolation, I always wondered what it was all about. Now I know🙄
@@Kyharra it's okay, someday you'll get over your crippling fear of not being accepted ingrained in you by your parents and society around you when you were a child.
@@Bananabeacon The challenge was to buy a 4-seat convertible for dirt cheap, but each of them showed up with a BMW 325i from the late 80s. They then scrapped their planned tests in favor of new ones to see who had done the best job buying a used car.
I do miss it, though I'm from the US so we never got it new. Clarkson's Farm is surprisingly good though, if you need a good placeholder. May's 'Oh Cook' and 'Our Man In' series as well, just wish we had some cheap car challenges to lean on.
It wouldn't work as well because the gas would sink to the bottom and they wouldn't breathe it in and get the devil voice. Helium works better because it rises to the top and collects on the roof which means they breathe more of it in.
No shit your lungs are not designed to inhale helium lmao. But it's not inherently dangerous for short periods. I believe your brain knows its running out of air based on carbon dioxide levels, not actually oxygen levels, so when you inhale a foreign gas you don't necessarily realize your running out of oxygen. So something like this can be very dangerous as you starve yourself of oxygen to the point of brain damage, unconscious or even death. But inhaling a gas like helium should be safe as long as your not breathing it for very long. Filling an enclosed space with helium seems like an awful idea though.
@@DVNGXRit takes about 1 minute to pass out breathing only helium, 10 to die. one of the most common ways to kill yourself because you don’t feel like you can’t breathe until the very last minute when you are passing out anyway
These clips remind us everyday just how good we had it when these guys fronted topgear. This was the golden age of TG. We miss you Clarkson's Top Gear.
Imagine going to work one day, getting punched by a colleague of yours, reporting it, and your boss and your company not doing a single thing about it, even though a crime has just been commited on you. That's is what you are advocating for you helmet.
What they did there was actually quite dangerous Helium binds red blood cells in the same way oxygen does If you kept sitting in the car breathing normally you get drowsy and sleepy until you pass out (it feels like falling asleep) Within a few more minutes you'd be dead - assuming the helium keeps displacing most of the oxygen
