I like how they brought this up again on the Grand Tour, and actually had some footage of a Porsche doing it in situations (at the drive through, at a zebra crossing) to properly illustrate it. They also explained on TGT (which they didn’t here) that the Launch Control will only be ready for four seconds before it disengages so you can’t even use it on a track or drag strip because you don’t know when light will go green.
and you are gonna be on public roads so chances are you will barely use launch control unless ur on a track or at the lights. Else you just idiotic cause ur gonna destroy the clutch regardless
It's official! You people actually scare pedestrians and other drivers. I bet you people even use launch control to beat the train at railway crossings.
@@DrippedOutPoodleStay away from crowds and you'll be safe, the Mustang Targeting System goes for the highest amount of bodily harm to as many people as possible
I can confirm he is correct. I had a buick lesabre with a bad alternator so every time I came to a red light I had to keep one foot on the brake and the other revving the engine or else the car would die. The angry looks I got made me feel like such an a-hole.
Had a 91 Suzuki Samurai with a leaky master break cylinder and bad carburator, so while coming to a stop I'd have to pump the break for it to create pressure, while also pumping the gas pedal to keep it from stalling, and I had really no system for this, so I'd sometimes use the right foot alone, sometimes the left also, which I'm still not used to. If I did stall the engine, and it happened a lot, I'd often have to get out of the car and short the starter with a wrench, because the key thing didn't always work. I eventually cut the contact wires and started the car by hot-wiring them, then added a series of mad-max style buttons and switches to start the car. I'm so glad I got rid of that car, but I miss it so much 😅
My Ford had one. I used a hammer and fixed it by knocking it into my neighbours backyard. Then fitted a manual spring-loaded thingie from an old Mazda. Worked perfectly. Except now I have to use a crowbar and sheer rage to pry it open every time. But still less hassle than the electric wankery.
I like my electric boot. Is it lazy? Yes, most definitely. But it's also very convenient. The only caveat I would add is if the boot is not openable using the key fob, then in that case an electric boot would be pointless because the greatest advantage is being to open it from a distance
1: use the handbrake 2: clutch in engage 1st gear 3: judge the light as it goes green plant accelerstor take handbrake of and pop the clutch Best lauchcontrol ever No switches or electronics
That is, without question, how you launch a manual. ... it also doesn't solve any of the problems of managing wheelspin for launch that Launch Control does, nor will you do it better than it will. Apples to Oranges. You put these same monkeys into a manual and tell them to do this, and they'll have the shittiest launches ever, if they ever learn to manage the throttle and stop doing burnouts.
My ears almost bled when i came across a dangerously loud shitbox by the name of bmw e39. It was so loud i was genuinely concerned for the driver. How in the hell can he sit inside the car and listen to that without his ears suffering
Such a description is only applicable in the main part of the world, except for the USA, where it’s considered fairly standard SOP for all drivers of HellCats and all other vehicles that put your brand new over priced and overpowered muscle car in the hands of a moron that struggles to drive a VW Beetle.
I mean, if you have launch control, you are obviously driving something fast, and if you are using that car's launch control at an intersection, then yes, you are an unintelligent man.
@@shueibdahir why? You don't like it so he is stupid? All racing is pointless and a waste of resources that could be put to better use, we all should have econoboxes and carpool. Well except me I don't want that I like being pinned to the seat and the smell of everything being right on the edge of failure it turns me on... You just keep driving that smart car
Launch control was invented to get the best 0-60 time possible. This is how most autos are judged especially sports cars. I had it on my last BMW and never used it. Thought about using it the day I sold the car but I didn't want to break anything.
my dad has one on his car and he had a dead battery on his car which was parked with the back end facing out I couldn't roll the car out of the space to jump start it and instead had to pull the entire battery out, charge it at home and then put it back in to start the car and release the damn button e-brake I don't know why a simple lever is so inconvenient to have... or even a foot ebrake is a good option doesn't mess with the interior design and is out of the way but still mechanical and reliable..
I truly love our BRITISH cousins- they routinely display exquisite style, class and grace that is a solid example for the rest of the world to aspire to attain. That being said - sliding sideway at 70 mph on a dirt road around a curve in your Mama’s car while simultaneously trying not to let the high powered 30/06 rifle you just got for your TWELFTH BIRTHDAY two weeks ago not fall in floor board the while attempting to beat the Buck to the creek bed where he tends to bed down most nights-- is uniquely AMERICAN
I have 2015 911 GT3 RS. I have used launch control as a way of mitigating human traffic from walking in front of my vehicle when stuck in the city where people just keep walking out in front of you. So when you light up that flat 6 and it just starts popping and cracking and is hitting 110 decibels inside of a city people tend to move out of the way and it's quite quick actually. Comically my wife hated the car until the first night when we went out on a dinner date in it 8 years ago and I finally just got fed up and started engaging launch control then she started laughing hysterically. The only issue is she now doesn't like to go anywhere in my 16 VIP ACR which by the way if it had better acceleration would probably be one of the greatest cars ever made that thing sticks to the road like you wouldn't imagine butt is one of the worst rides if you are just casually driving around specially on slightly bumpy roads and it's horrible on highways that are not flat or smooth.
The other day while I was riding my bike on a sidewalk, a car nearly crashed into me as it reversed out of a parking lot. Don't reverse into traffic, folks.
Stupidest thing ever fitted to a car "so far". Now we have Lane assist, automatic braking, massive useless screens, electric parking brake, automatic closing boot/trunk, etc
@@petertarau3899 Those entertainment systems are terrible. They're laggy from day 1, and you have to go through like 3 menus to change the AC while you drive. Buttons don't require you to even look down. And electronic E-brake? How does that make a car better? Cause it's new?
I recently went to the NL. You can use launch control on every single traffic light. They don't go red yellow green. They go red green. So you better be ready!
Skill is only involved when there is a clutch to dump - other wise “auto launch “ is simply pressing the brake until horsepower overtakes the calipers grip- before removing your foot
Also it’s only active for about 5 seconds before it turns itself off. So if your at a red light it useless because you don’t know when it’s gonna go green
Launch control is for people that want to drag race/show off but don’t know how to control a car… the people that use launch control probably don’t turn off traction control when mudding/rallying
Ah but you can program launch control to hold any RPM as well as the delay of the tree. Most street trees run .425 of a second between 1st yellow and green allowing you to launch the absolute second it goes green. If fractions of a second matter launch control is a useful tool.
My launch control doesn't have any switches. Floor the clutch, floor the accelerator and ready to go. It does make quite a scene though with all the pops and bangs as such 😬
This takes me back when I was playing NFS2 with my friend. He would always floor the accelerator at the start while I waited for the opportune time to smash the accelerator. We played on PC and keyboard so the accelerator was on/off kind of thing. Well in any case I always left him in the dust and he never figured out why. :P
I used to do this in videos games as a kid lol. Like i remember this racing game on Nintendo where I'd use the slowest car to beat anybody with with any car, people got fed up and stopped playing with me. XD
