absolutely. they went above and beyond. literally and figuratively. the risk was worth the reward. what an amazing journey to have as a human and actor. side note: maybe he would have nostalgia for top gun if you saw it when you were 5 like I did. not as a arrogant teenager. yes we are all arrogant and snotty as teenagers lol. we would have sleepovers and rewind the "highway to the danger zone" scene over and over. and I agree this was the best theatre experience I've ever had. I haven't been to a theatre in years. and I saw it with my dad. best memory with him in a while.

When I saw the movie, the moment I saw Tom Cruise's opening sequence telling the audience essentially ''we hope you like it, we poured our hearts and souls into this one'', I was glued to my seat thinking this one was going to be great. It's not often an actor like Cruise gets so emotional about releasing a movie and I knew right then and there that this would be a spectacle to behold. As an aviation fan, I was not disappointed.

This was a perfect film. It was pure, an old-fashioned movie in the best way imaginable. I loved the refreshingly reverential treatment of the source material, how it not only honored the original characters, but gave them more dimension and development until you felt that you understood and liked the characters even more by the ending. There were stakes, there was emotional gravitas all throughout, a complicated relationship conflict thread woven through the movie that culminated in a cathartic payoff. Everyone behaved consistent with their character, everything was even and objective, everything made sense, and you cared every step of the way. There were no obnoxiously gratuitous, sledgehammeringly force-fed identity, gender, and race politics. It was simply a strong narrative all its own built upon an iconic legacy that it somehow transcended in a true feat of filmmaking. The movie was absolutely phenomenal.

This movie is honestly incredible and I love it. I'm a die hard fan of the first movie and this one takes it to a new level. However there are a few things that bothered me that no one is really mentioning and I want to just put my opinion out there. The acting in this movie is top notch - everyone is excellent. It's Tom Cruise's best performance in years and everyone else is right there with him. But there are A LOT of line readings that are really stiff, and line readings that just sound wrong. The dialogue itself only had a few tiny rough spots so it was mostly the delivery - sometimes it sounded like they were reading lines off a page instead of being natural, and sometimes it sounded like Indiana Jones saying "Part time" which Redlettermedia did such a great job disecting. Some how Cruise, Hamm and Parnell are the only ones that don't fudge any line readings. There were also a few moments where I wish there was a line added (in the script, not ADR) but that's with every film. Maybe Kosinski's directorial style is simply hands-off. And that lines up with Kosinski's career in that he's had a handful of movies with great direction and a great cast, but things kind of fall apart at the script-level. My next issue is that the editing of the flying scenes was way too fast. Yes it's incredibly clear and functional editing, maybe some of the most precise stuff you could have done considering the difficulty of the filming process. In other words you can always tell exactly what's happening shot for shot, no dialogue necessary. It's just too fast. One of the reasons I love the original Top Gun so much is the amazing photography, and we get plenty of time to enjoy looking at it. In this movie however you can tell just from comparing the intro sequence (it's identical to the first movie) that it's a new shot every 2 seconds, and so many beautiful images just go by way too quickly to be appreciated. Finally my last gripe happens at the end so SPOILERS! SPOILERS!! There's a moment whete we are focused on Rooster then fade to black, then cut to Maverick as he gets chased by a helicopter, he does a lot of running and it ends with a joke. While the scene works, it took me out of the movie, like "what are we doing here is this Mission Impossible now?". It just felt really out of place in that particular scene but also in a Top Gun movie in general. I get it, we are following the perspective of the main character and Tom Cruise needs to have a running scene in every movie. But I think it would have felt much more natural if we stayed with Rooster while he was having his crisis of conscience to go back and save Mav against direct orders. We were already focused on Rooster and it could've been an Obi Wan moment for him where he hears Mav's mantra of "don't think just do". It would've been a great character beat to see that growth and directly watch him take a risk. Anyway I absolutely loved the movie overall and encourage everyone to see it in theaters while they can.

The first 10/10 for me since Uncut Gems. Absolutely incredible. The only film that literally left me at the edge of my seat and that was through about 60 mins total of the runtime. Will go down as one of the best action films of all time I think.

@@grenademaster8981 I don't think Uncut Gems will be forgotten. It was one of the most successful independent productions in history, and people were genuinely concerned when Sandler didn't get a best actor oscar nomination from it.

@@DarrenBates Sandler did well in it, but it was a mess. The sound design was horrid. And it's not at action movie, its a crime thriller. And it will be forgotten almost completely because it's barely remembered right now lol.

When Mav confronted Rooster after he had destroyed the Hind to save Mav... "What were you thinking?!"... "You told me not to think..." ... I laughed out loud at the way Tom responded in pure disbelief. Bloody amazing experience of a film. First class.

When I saw this movie was over two hours, I thought it was going to be bloated as hell. I was already on edge because it's a sequel happening like 35 years later. Nope! Every minute felt worthwhile. The practical effects are insane. Shockingly touching for a sequel to Top Gun of all things. It's a wonderful surprise, at least to me, how great this movie is!

It's even more amazing to read the universal positive reactions to this movie, throughout social media and elsewhere, it's like a giant lovefest and it will be interesting to hear how the actors, mostly Cruise of course, respond when they fully realize they have a monster hit on their hands. It has to be smashing box office records, and rightly so.

I was against this film originally because so many times they ruin iconic films when they come back so many years later. Ghostbusters Afterlife showed me they can make a great film so many years later and this proved the same thing as well. This can be a great standalone film but so much better because you've seen the original. They made so many small references to the original film. The relationships with the characters was well felt. This was an emotional flight.
