I have kept swordtails for 7 years now and I can concur that Bristlenose pleco works fantastic with them, I also use cherry barbs (puntius titteya) and siamese algae-eater (crossocheilus oblongus) and some tiny snails i don't know the species, I have a 375L/100G planted tank and swordtails + green crypts with a black background is a fantastic contrast!

Great.. I just finished my micro tropical fish room.. This came at a perfect time.. Love this.. I have been in hobby for almost 50 years but still learning. Info on the rainbows was great. All my vids are cool water species although I will be uploading my micro tropical fish room.
It's great to see someone post about swordtails! I breed swordtails and mollies in the same tanks. It helps me double up on tank space and I still end up with a lot of fry from both.
Hey Im back again with another question for you, I currently have 20 tanks, many with just snails and other microorganisms, I have 5 tanks with 1 betta each, I have a ton of guppies currently in 3 tanks previously just two but my main tank had an outbreak so many are in a hospital tank, I need to move them soon, I have 17 neon tetra and 6 peppered corys in a 40 gal, 2 corys and a clown pleco in a 29 gal, guppies galore in a 20 long, guppies and 10 emerald cory in a 40, 16 emerald corys in a 20 long, 18 emerald corys and a rubber lip pleco in a 60, just set up a new 29, have a 29 with snails, a 33 with snails, 5.5 snails, 10 gallon with a skud colony, 44 column with skuds and a temporary batch of guppy babies, think that about covers it besides the betta tanks and some other side projects, cleaning out a 40 to cycle and get ready tomorrow so that wont be available for a while, long story short I have 6 red velvet sword tails, guppies are kind of a free for all but Im wondering where the swordtail will be most happy, theyve been with way too many guppies most of their life, Id like to let them relax, just not sure where to put them
I baught a fish tank about 2 years ago now an the first 2 fish I got were 2 Molly's then a couple months later stocked up an got some neons, platys and a male an female swordtail and the male molly and swordtail would constantly be fighting each other so I gave the male molly to my aunt who has a tank of them an over these 2 years I swear my male swordtail has bullied an killed every other fish since then he is the only one left out of all of them I honestly don't even want to bother trying to put any other fish in there with him now if I do I will probs get something that's abit bigger then him but wouldn't that just stress him out to much since he's been living in my fishtank alone for the past year almost now?
Ps male molly is still alive at my aunts place I feel bad an think to this day I should've just left them together an I recon the molly would've been tank boss
That’s strange. I have not seen male swordtails behave that way. I would almost try and add more swordtails, especially females. That may be what was causing the aggression
