Top Ten Insane Video Game Characters 

I can agree on the former, but not so much the latter, I have played Apollo Justice and have watched an LP of Danganronpa 2, but I think that I'd need to hear some more explanation on why he's insane.

I am a Sheogorath and I feel triggered.

I loved Sheograth, and while I wanted Kefka to be no. 1, I wanted Sheograth to be No. 2!

All of the Remnants of Despair are crazy, yeah, but Junko Enoshima takes the cake. You also can't win with her, considering pretty much everything relating to her causes her or someone else despair. Junko and Komaeda are better examples than the Remnants of Despair because you get whole games to learn about their special brand of insanity and are more fleshed out. Genocide Jill's also great, but if I had to pick one Danganronpa character, I don't think she'd make the cut over Enoshima and Komaeda.

Josh would have been great because he displays realistic mental illness. I saw on another channel where someone actually took the time to analyze the documents you find from Josh's doctor. They've been treating him for depression but it's obvious, in hindsight, that he's suffering from schizophrenia.

What I liked about him is that he would take you into his insanity, show you what his perfect world is like. And it still makes no goddamn sense!

Can someone truly insane be so predictable in their insanity? At least Handsome Jack, Kefka, Vaas, or Captain Walker can indeed use rationale at times, unlike our beloved pain in our ass madgod. It's just so far off of what we would normally think is normal, we must put them into the category of insane. They are truly insane because they know what sanity is, and we can see how far they've fallen. Handsome Jack actually has some amount of logic to his plan. He's just so dissociated/nihilistic/idealistic that he's willing to subscribe wholly to "the ends justify the means." Kefka is motivated by his utter nihilism. Vaas, while undiscernable due to his drug usage, still is capable of expounding rational philosophy. Captain Walker is a victim of his misunderstanding, falling to the age old defense mechanism of rationalization, now broken into tiny pieces when the mechanism itself is upended, leaving the psyche in total upheval trying to stabilize itself. It's a modern paradox. Something so perfectly insane is too predictably insane to be truly insane. Despite Sheogorath being once the god of Order, now Chaos, Jyggalagg is its own entity. So we need to answer one thing before the madgod is truly worthy of being on the top end of the insane character list... Can insanity ever be predictable?

Don't forget Ghirahim. I think both Zant and Ghirahim are more nutty than the Mask Salesman. But I'm not a kinda guy to question opinions unless there's a VERY good reason for it.

Alice in Wonderland is public domain and people can create their own spins on the character. The Joker is the same in games as he is in the comics. There is a pretty big difference between the two.

However, as long as you're not basing it on Disney's interpretation of the original story you're fine.

Her name is "Alice", but she's not the "Alice" from the books. She's a FAN of the books. She just happens to share the same name. "Wonderland" is all in her head. She's a completely original character. It's like the dynamic between... Pajama Sam and Pajama Man or... Larry and Robin.

I'm going to posit a theory. Because Sheogorath is insanity itself, he is too predictable to be on the list. Because he is guaranteed to do the unexpected thing because reasons, that predictability in and of itself means there are people more unpredictable than even the Madgod himself. You know Sheogorath is going to do some otherworldy mind fuckery, all that changes is the place and the faces. Those truly insane are tethered just enough to sanity so they can actually be aware of the insanity of their actions. It's like the idea that no one can be perfectly good because perfection in and of itself is a character flaw.

true enough, but what's being gauged here isn't unpredictability, it's insanity, and Sheogorath fits the bill for that state of mind better than just about any character in gaming.

Adachi's an enjoyable villain, but he's more depressive and nihilistic than flat out insane.

The Joker from the Arkham games is an extension of The Joker from the comics. Alice in American McGee's Alice is her own character made separate from Lewis Carroll's original novel. One is a reflection, one is an interpretation.

Yeah, in a same matter ya could use any Norse god in some countdown when the new God of War game comes out, but none of the Marvel's Norse gods. A same principle.

yeah but that's not the same exact Alice from Lewis Carrol's story. she is a different version of a largely public domain character. The Joker is a character from the comics, and all versions of him are simply based on the comics character directly.

I think is too predictable and unaware of his insanity to be on the list. He's totally unhinged, that's a fact, but the difference is that he's totally untethered to reality. Everyone else on this list has at least some connection to what the hell they're doing and the sanity/insanity of it. It's like watching a hero fall to villainhood as opposed to starting out there. There's some bonus to actually knowing what sanity is, in terms of rating insane characters.

Harley Mitchelly well if you folllow the lore of shegorath he was once the daedric lord of order and knowledge and yeah maybe he is a lil too unhinged but ill count him as a unsaid honorable mention

Seirra Moon Definitely an honorable mention, if this was a top 15, he'd be on. I wouldn't say it's because he's too unhinged though. It's because he has no knowledge of sanity (I do draw a distinction between totally unhinged and unknowing of reality.).
