Top Ten Weirdest Pokémon Sprites in Green & Red (Jpn) Versions 

the funniest thing about how the hitmonchan "looks like a togekiss watching a doduo taking a dump" is how accurate that statement is

Venasaur looks like the tree is killing him. Poor guy. I like the music in the video. It sounds like a combination of funky 80's stuff mixed with Game Boy.

I'm pretty sure they were going for the embreyo look on Mew.

Mew green/Japanese Red Sprite is disgusting Gamefreak quickly changed the sprite so it would be less disgusting

This list is painfully spot-on. The "winner" in worst Red/Green sprites has to be either Ekans or Charizard. Mew is a close third in my book. I know it's supposed to sort of resemble both a cute kitten and a fetus, but Red/Green Mew steers way too far toward fetus and not enough toward cute kitten. Then again, there's a little bit of personal bias coming through since Mew is also my favorite Pokémon, so it's even worse to me that in that one game, Mew has such a sucky sprite. (I think every other Mew sprite is pretty good.) Oddly enough, Mewtwo's sprite in Red/Green matches his artwork better than in Red/Blue, although that one isn't bad since he still looks pretty menacing. Another Red/Green sprite that I've always found rather hilarious is Moltres' sprite. Now I see where James got his "Flaming Moltres" routine from. xD

LOL! That Ekans sprite tho!! I was really surprised when I saw that because it's probably the only Red and Green sprite in this list that I've never seen! 😂 By the way, I subscribed!!

clefable & staryu virtually looks the same as they did throughout the entire series. Primeape looks feral Machamp looks all derpy mew creeps me out

The Wigglytuff and Jigglypuff ones are intentional. It's a reference to the "man on the moon".

i think mew looks a little off. since he is the 'genetics' pokemon or whatever (sorry english isn't my first language) i think hes supposed to look like a fetus ... thats kind of creepy

think about it: they did pokemon red and green in JPN but in the USA theymade it pokemon Red and Blue. certain pokemon are only in each version. red has Growlithe as a dog pokemon and blue git Vulpix as a fox for their dog. RED AND BLUE" : BLOODS AND CRIPS its a Pokemon gang war on the go. always has been. think about it.

Actually the reason why the sprites look wierd. Is beacuse they were created first, before the artwork, so the artwork is based on the sprites but more with revamped details to the designs.

Charizard's backsprite always looked like it's a zombie dragon to me ._.

I found out Pokemon Red, Blue, Green, And Yellow are based off Charmander, Squirtle, Bulbasaur, And Pikachu cuz the first 3 is the starters and then Pikachu was Ash's starter as a 4th ^-^

The original Pokemon red, green, and blue have aged pretty badly compared to today's standards. The sprites looked weird, the world's were empty, there wasn't a lot to do, the special stats combined into one stat, and the psychic type was broken with no weaknesses as there weren't any ghost type moves to damage them, or dark types.

Ekans looks like a purple snake body with purple pea shooter head or ekans is trying to do a pea shooter impression.

That ekans sprite makes a lot of sense because snakes unhinge their jaw while trying to eat something too big for their mouth. It looks like ekans is about to eat your pokemon. The eyes are too beady though.

I'm pretty sure the "girl what that mouth do" joke came from Ekans.

I find it more odd that they kept the Green and red Sprites for the players Pokemon in use. Mew still is a fetus when you send him out.
