As always, you are a gift dude. I’m a music therapist and this is familiar material, but a great recap and you made it engaging. Also enjoyed the background music

Hello!! Awesome videos & beautiful smile! This is a career path that I feel is perfect for me. I'm 27 & still figuring it out... I know that most music therapists have to be proficient in an instrument but my instrument is naturally my voice. I can sing (since 5yrs old) but I never really developed my piano or guitar skills. Is it required to know how to play an instrument? & how would a singer get into this career path?

Hi! Yes you’ll need to know how to play instruments (guitar or piano usually) but I know plenty of people who have voice as their primary instrument and are fabulous MTs! I would definitely look into learning piano or guitar, lots of free resources on RU-vid that you can check out

Thanks for your videos. I want to become a music therapist after I graduate! Looks like such a challenging yet rewarding career. Do you know what the gender dispersion is of music therapists? Is it a primarily female-dominated field? Do clients respond better when the client is of their same gender? Sorry that was a lot of questions haha

Hi! I’m not sure of the exact numbers but it is a predominantly white woman field. In terms of client response, I think it would really depend on the client and the relationship with the therapist. There’s a lot of factors to consider!

Great video! I have a 2 yr old and I'm always looking into ways to expand our play and learning. Have you noticed any difference in the kids you've seen pre-pandemic to now?

Ohmygosh! So much. They’re having a really hard time right now. Attention span is much lower, really struggling with sitting still and direction following, having trouble regulating their emotions ugh. Poor kiddos.

Also one more question. Do you find it a challenge to get employment? I’ve heard that music therapy is generally misunderstood and some times under-valued. I would worry that after completing a two year masters, there wouldn’t be good job prospects at the end! I’m from the Northern Ireland in the U.K. and would be doing a masters in music therapy after I complete my current batchelors of music degree!

I actually made a video about job prospects in music therapy so I would go check that out 😊 you’re right that it’s misunderstood and undervalued, but it’s up to us to create that demand and educate!

I would study a marketing and business administration udemy course to make money. It will teach you how to profit from your career instead of trying to be boring traditionalist

@@getsmartquick I’d hardly consider pursuing music therapy as trying to be boring traditionalist

@@alexjemphrey I think you misinterpreted my words we traditionally look for employment by CV interview. First go to school finish ask for job then that's it. But there are economic forces and biological forces that disrupted that workflow. 1st no jobs more students less vacancies thus results in underemployment. 2nd employers realise they in the power position so they can choose to pay you little they in control. 3rd the pandemic has showed how the premise of the system is whack life is a gigantic babysitting rink because most adults think other adults are babies because they don't live in reality but the escapism of things like Disneyland las Vegas etc that's why there's child abuse drugs porn debt mental illness etc. What I meant to avoid the drama of the above is to get a short course on business admin it will teach you how to run and scale a business and marketing how to constantly get customers. Because the fix model of an employer and job security is gone. Hope you understood me now

@@getsmartquick I’m not really interested tbh, sorry. It sounds like you’re trying to sell something to me and feels very disingenuous .
