In this video, we’re going to talk about plant-based proteins. I typically think a person should have about 20-25g of protein per meal. The idea is to have lower amounts of sugary foods and higher amounts of protein if you’re a vegan. Download the chart I put together for more plant-based protein sources.
Plant-based vegan protein sources:
• Lentils - 1 Tbs = 1.1g
• Tofu - ½ cups = 10g
• Quinoa - ½ cups = 8g
• Hemp - 4 Tbs = 12g
• Sunflower Seeds - ½ cup = 6g
• Pumpkin Seeds - ½ cup = 6g
• Chia Seeds - 1oz. = 5g
• Mixed Nuts - ½ cup = 14g
• Almond Butter - 1 Tbs = 3.4g
• Hummus - 1 Tbs = 1.2g
• Tempe - ½ cup = 15g

I love your vids, I have to say I come often. I came particularly for this one in hopes you mention Hemp seeds. You see I have a dilemma here. I'm fully aware of the impact and how amazing hemp is, what gets me everyday is looking at vegans and watching how little do they care for the most medicinal plant in the world. I'm by far amazed on how such a plant goes ignored.
@zaftersoarseaweed
@zaftersoarseaweed 7 лет назад
Twistedhippy I mean ya sure, dude I'm just bewildered to a point I might need therapy and the only therapy I need is to legalize a plant that feeds, clothes, shelters (yes a hemp houses are better than modern houses, no mold problems and chemical free) and medicates you. At the same time it cleans the environment. You have to be on lithium to not be outraged. I'm sorry to be so blunt but its true this is nothing more than insanity and everyone is treating it like its an intellectual debate. Its not!

If you brought the quantity of lentils up to a reasonable amount, 1/2 cup, you would come up with 8 grams. Lentils are one of the highest quality sources of vegan protein, are extremely affordable, and do not require processing or refrigeration prior to cooking. They are at the top of the list but you didn’t give them the credit they deserve.

@@yes12337 it has good levels of iron, however it is non-heme iron, which we don't absorb as well as as heme iron (from animal source). And considering the quantities of nettle leaves you can ingest per day (1 to 2 teaspoons of nettle powder at best), it won't really boost iron levels in the body.. But it has many other phytochemicals and micronutrients.. Definitely an amazing herb to include in our diet.

@michaelprovidence9961
@michaelprovidence9961 6 лет назад
Rosie Miranda not sure if already found out the information but alternatives to animal protein is just plant based protein which is what Dr. Berg was talking about in this video. Dont focus on all these so called meat substitutes which are made from soy or wheat gluten (vegan hot dogs, vegan chicken etc.) So its Legumes (peas, beans, Lentils) Pseudograins (Quinoa, wild rice, amaranth, buckwheat) seeds ( sesame, chia, hemp, pumpkin, sunflower, flax) and sprouts As for healthy plant based fat that would be avocado, coconut (oil, cream, canned milk, flour ) nuts, nut butters, hemp seed oil pumpkin seed oil, flaxseed oil, extra virgin olive oil, olives

I find the measurement of 'cup' to be very difficult to understand as it seems to be different for every food source. My attempts to find out how many grams of spinach for example, in one cup has given me responses varying from 25gr - 200gr.!!! It would be easier just to use grams, or if you really insist, in ounces, as at least I can calculate how much that is!

Is that liquid, solid, or what? Because volume doesn't equate to weight. Weight is mass x gravity. 1 cup, is volume and it is different for everything. For an extreme example: one cup sand is heavier than one cup of water. Density = mass/volume.

This helps to show that green leafy vegetables aren't the top providers of plant-based protein? For example, where is kale which is supposed to be the new beef. You have nutritional yeast on your plant-based protein chart which many people don't consider vegan. It would be helpful if you suggest that vegans track their food intake to see how much protein, fat, and carbs they really are consuming. Veganism is a high carb-centric lifestyle. Most vegans consumes around 10% of their diet in proteins.
