I own the two Muses 01, I love it. The sound is so, so, so good. Opens every note and made the sound stage so wide and clear. The Muses 01 has to be heard in person to understand how good it is. Have it in my Creative X7 with two Opa 827's on real Browndog abaptors.

In my current listening config (portable go-vibe v4 headphone amp w/ AD8397 op amp / 14V DC power brick, connected to my PC with no EQ (Flat) & default minimal gain setting on soundcard line out) Sony MDR XB500 headphones, the 8920 was my fav but they all sounded good, if I had to choose a least favorite i'd go with muse02

For my work I listen analistic to music and I use Genelec 1032 for end mastering. (final sound for production) . On the road and free time I use my gsm Sony Experia III and a B4 x for the fun and color and Etymotic iem. The B4x has 2 upamps and those I wann to chance. I saw and hear here the Amuses and i'm suppriced by the chances between 1/2/3. I hear the 1 and thats confrontating direct to the face, the 2 is sterile with less peaks and 3 gives an overall more dynamic sound with more detail and 4(8920) is richer of harmonics . For a tube buffer preamp which muse would you recommend? Also since my preamp requires a dual circuit how exactly can i add a mono circuit like the muse 03 to it? Do i need to purchase 2 monos or an adopter? Does either option impact the sound?

Muses 01 - sweeter than vine :)

01 sounded sharp and accurate, very in your face and serious 02 sounded mellow as hell, like laid back, but slightly muffled because of the mid range being boosted from what i hear 03 was like a mix between 02 and 03 in my headphones.... it was punchy, but not too punchy, it was mellow, but not too mellow 04 seemed like a weaker version of 02's, but i guess since the 8920 are actually older than the muses XX I can understand that reasoning very well Personally, I been rolling op-amps in my sound cards for years. I have tried opa-228 and opa-2228 (my current fav combo), lme-49710 and lme-49720, opa-2123, burson v5i (crap), and jrc-2114D.... just ordered my muses 01/03 combo for my sound card. Currently rocking the Sound Blaster AE-9 but might actually go back to the ZXR even though when using RCA out, it doesn't do "headphone left/right" it does speaker left right so the tonality is different where as the AE-9 has the ability to apply headphone out to RCA....

Hi, I have an Asus Essence III DAC, and it has swappable AD 827SQ and MUSES 02 among others. Are there any better op amps available nowadays that I can use and improve the sound? Thanks for your videos.

In my opinion any op amp needs at least 100 hours before you will hear it’s full potential, they definitely open up and smooth out over time and the sound can dramatically improve. So if these are all brand new, I would suggest running them all for 100 hours and do the test again. Also it looks like the microphone position is not the same on each one which will obviously effect the sound.

Good day! It so happened that I have a sudden interest in the muses and saw your recent upload. Did not listen to the recording via headphone. But is quite interested in your room acoustic characteristics. May I know what is the width x depth x height? What are the wall and floor/ceiling material? Concrete? Wood? Sorry for so many questions. I have concrete walled room and it sounds very different... Less like a big empty room

Attempting to quantify benefits of cost no object op-amps courtesy of youtube's 160kbps audio stream ... is an undertaking fraught with difficulty to put it mildly, pointless to be blunt. Have had a fair share of comparison myself with SACDs, CDs & hi-res files and in my opinion Muses blow pretty much anything on the market out of the water. Not in the specs department, far from it, but soundwise they're in a class of their own, that's for sure.

I have recently bought 4 x MUSES03 and used them in the I/V stage of my DAC (the primary recommendation of the manufacturer is for the I/V). I am very impressed, it's the BEST sound I've heard so far. Very heart touching vocals and full of emotion. Deep and tight bass. I am using MUSES01 in the LPF and in the Output Buffer. Have you tried MUSES03 in other stages than I/V with good results? I'm thinking to buy another set to try in LPF or Output buffer. Was wondering if you have any experiences? I don't like the MUSES02, although it has a really nice sound stage and laid back sound, it lacks detail. Especially if you listen to high-res music, it sounds like as if it's downsampling back to 128-192Kbps. Anyway, like another commenter said, MUSES are in a class of their own. They outperform everything else on the market including the discrete opamps.

Very helpful indeed the comparison but I have to alert music friends that muses02 original in my entry level dac sound very aggressive in voices and its like the music goes faster in a way I don't describe musical.Its obvious that is very good jfet op amp but for me it didn't work. The output capasitors and the impedance of the circuit plays huge role but its very difficult to measure it except diy progects. Thanks for the video.

02 sounds very hifi. Not good in this system. Scratchy treble and distant mid-range. Harmonics not good. The 8920 is very spacious and live-sounding, but with a hard edge. The 01 is very good and the 03 is excellent.

muses03 = heaven. orgasm. eargasm. All of the above. muses03 perfect as single op amp for hybrid tube amps muses01 second perfect as dual op amp for non tube sounds. Its a bit darker.

I'll tell you what Guys, sort out your system first, then the magic will happen. Check your run of the mill speakers, so you've blown a couple grand and are content with the result ? Well, you might be surprised to realize that each entity involved in the manufacturing/distribution process wants their slice of the pie, what you're really getting is a couple hundred worth of components. Now, raise the volume until the diaphragms begin to move, place one ear against the enclosure and a palm of your hand against the other ear. Chances are you will hear a faint, or less than faint echo; well, that's normal you might say and you're right. Think about it for a second, what is that sound and should it be there ? Nope, it should not. Take into account that your speaker may couple to the air through a membrane of about 200 cm2 for a medium sized speaker, now the enclosure although effectively playing quietly couples to the air through the area of about 10000 cm2, so although faint it is effectively contributing to the final sound of your speaker much more, than you would expect. Sort it out first, brace them properly, then deploy lead sheet to stop these panels from resonanting and deaden them with plant room acoustic sheets used in ship building, then fill the boxes with glass fibre and natural wool to stop internal standing waves from colouring the notes. You will hear a massive difference. Properly anchor your speakers, as the diaphragm is pushed outwards, the box wants to move back, invest in solid spikes to keep it steady. Now, look at the crossover, it wasn't designed by a sound engineer if you find ceramic resistors, ferrite core coils and electrolytic capacitors, what you're really seeing is the accountant at work. Replace the components for proper quality passives and get that crossover out of there, it is effectively a war zone for microphonic components when played loud. Invest some in silver plated wiring in teflon insulation and solder everything as much as possible, best connector won't beat a properly soldered joint. Sort out your mains, invest in screened mains leads, why ? Because you're unlikely to manage to keep them (socially) distanced from or perpendicular to your speaker cables and interconnects, better still get a grounded metal extension with mains filters for your power needs. Setup your speakers properly, find the sweet spot with your ears about level with the tweeters and then, get a good source and then, only then begin to roll your op-amps to find, which one you like best. Bi-polar and J-fet inputs differ to the extent, that in some circuits they may not be interchangeable. Most of all, enjoy your music, this is what's all about. Are Muses 01/02/03 worth the extra investment once you've sorted out the rest ? Without a doubt, they're a bargain !

Yeah, what i did to here your bad acoustics in your room with the the speakers straight like McGowan's philosophy of speaker positioning? This audiophile dinosaur use (and many others) this trick to get better depth but in his almost perfect and huge room! The stereo listening first of all is mathematics not magic so first we learn the rules and then we brake them! We have to know FIRST the ingredients so we can cook! Towing inside 30 degrees (depends from the distance we seat we here more direct "clear" sound and in this case not so much reverberation i hope!!! With this setup what to judge exactly? Even with 100000 euro recording equipment, how awful it sounds with any opanp because of your untreated room? And B&W speakers from the top of all with "monitor" character will favor the less "transparent" opanp or they like very "laidback sound'" to tame somehow the harshness but the reverberation need serious treatment! If you want to make such comparisons connect a DI BOX to get directly the sound from the amplifier (without the room) as undamaged is possible and will be only the coloration of the amplifier + DI + RU-vid annihilator!!! But we at least able to here and judge the differences between them IF WE HAVE THE SAME AMP not your room. Or even better get an opamp buffer and record the output, that works too its easier and of course gives even better impression of this things even through RU-vid fidelity destroyer...

My Harman Kardon Satellite Speakers sound good and crisp on the Harman Kardon Avr 265 Amp. But when I connect the Harman Kardon satellite speaker to the Logitech Z2300, the rhythm ringtones are very low and unrealistic, especially in metal music. I connected the pioneer ts-s20 tweeter in addition to the Harman satellite speaker to be sure. Everything is fine in the harman kardon avr 265, but the logitech z2300 is very strong, the sound quality is bad, the trebles are bad. I think the problem is not the speaker! In their discussion form they say that this problem is chronic. If you test it in different music genres, you will understand what I mean. It's not like plugging in different speakers will solve the treble problem, is it possible to do something on the circuit that will improve the treble and mids and make them better quality?
