This album of covers was all songs written by men about women, reinterpreted by Tori from a woman’s perspective… I love the production on the album and her covers of New Age, I’m Not in Love, Time & Real Men are highlights
on the Strange Little Girls album this song is followed by her cover of The Stranglers "Strange Little Girl". Tori has said SLG is the grown up little girl in 97 B&C she also covers "Raining Blood" by Slayer on Strange Little Girls. another must hear track.
She really is the greatest cover artist-and as great as she is, few of her cover songs rise to the level of her original songs because her writing is so outstanding. My favorite covers by Tori are Famous Blue Raincoat (Leonard Cohen), A Case of You (Joni Mitchell), and Do It Again (Steely Dan).
Your reactions are always great. I think she said that for the next song on the album (Strange Little Girl-also a cover like the whole album), she sang it from the perspective of the daughter, who's growing up and dealing with what she saw happen.
PLEASE! Watch Tori performing “real men” from this same album, live on kilborn. 9/11 had just happened, and … well, the song itself really ties into part of the male experience that universally can be spoken of what happens after toxic / indoctrination happens
She has the most amazing covers, try famous blue raincoat, angie, thank you, daniel by elton elton john etc etc .She has so many and she makes them her own. By the way, you´re so cute :p
What I find disturbing about Eminem is that he is often the "character" in his own songs, while his ex-wife Kim is the victim. And then for him to make his daughter an accomplice in her Mom's murder. He enjoys glorifying violence against women in a way that really influenced a lot of young men/boys into an almost sociopathic type of dehumanization. He's not singing about FICTIONAL characters, he's singing or rapping about his real life wife or daughter. Normalizing his revenge fantasies while a generation of men rap along.
I listen to him, and I may not be perfect, but i think i am decent human being. And i have been a fan all my life and know he is a decent human being as well, although flawed. I understand your point and concern
@SaeedReacts. Well, I can definitely see you are a decent human being and a good person. And certainly, like any art form, just watching horror movies or listening to horror music isn't going to make you turn evil. I'm just acknowledging that since Eminem wrote many violent songs about his own wife, it's hard for people to say what was fiction and what was his own revenge fantasy. And as far as I can tell, he just sort of washed his hands of it and didn't really own up to the art he was creating. He's not the first artist to write songs about macabre subjects. But it's still chilling knowing he was singing about real people.
@@SingularitySenses He definitely made songs like that, but he also made songs like Headlights, Bad Husband, Beautiful Pain, Castles/Arose. So for the fans that know his darker side they also know different sides of him.
@@SaeedReacts. you're a fan but just like Michael Jackson was a Pedophile, you can't deny Eminem is a Misogynist. we may be fans but we can't pretend their faults are not there.
Tori *inhabits* her work, even the covers. Her cover of Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is deeply, darkly disturbing. To be fair, the lyrics are deeply, darkly disturbing - but most people never really understand most of them due to Cobain's delivery.
I had never heard the Eminem original cause his music, maybe apart from the 8 mile soundtrack, as well as rap in general is not really my thing. But still, I thought I'd go and check it out. You are saying his version is disturbing? Compared to Tori's version it sounds more like he is casually reading off a neverending laundry list accompanied by the same old repetitive rhythm. Naah, sorry, it is Tori who makes this song disturbing in the first place.
@@SaeedReacts. The lyrics? Well, I guess I could read a murder scene from a book or a script in a completely uninvolved, non-caring neutral voice and it would sound, well, even boring, but then where is the coloring? You said Tori makes the song more disturbing. What she did in my opinion is perform that song how it should have been in the first place. Sorry, I am an absolute fan of hers, so I might be a bit harsh on Eminem. But I have to say his version left me bereft of any impression or emotion.
Tori does the best covers! That was one of her jobs before she started recording. She was a lounge singer in DC. As a tribute to those days she has a section in her shows called ‘Lizzard Lounge’ where she does a couple covers before going back to her originals
@@SaeedReacts. The Lizzard Lounge is a great venue. Lake Street Dive did a set from there, too. (If you haven't, you should *definitely* check out Lake Street Dive! Their streetcorner cover of The Jackson Five's "I Want You Back" is an excellent gateway song, but LSD is another one of those "throw a dart" bands: Every song is AMAZING.)
