A playthrough of Sierra Online's 1995 graphic adventure for PCs running Dos and Windows 3.1/95, Torin's Passage.
This is one that I get pretty nostalgic over, and I imagine many who played it as kids in the 90s feel the same way. Torin's Passage feels like a heavily updated King's Quest VII with some heavy Leisure Suit Larry undertones to the humor. It makes a lot of sense, though, since Al Lowe headed this one. It's like Ren & Stimpy in how it's totally innocent to a kid, but it uses enough innuendo to keep it entertaining for the adults.
It's short and easy compared to just about any other mid-90s Sierra adventure, but it's fun and cute, and it looks great. I do find it rather funny that it was also released about a month after Sierra's 7-cd horror blockbuster Phantasmagoria.

The atmosphere in this game was and is so cool. I don't think any other game made me feel so creeped out and fascinated at the same time. Shout out to anyone else who got to experience this in their childhood or any other -hood back when it came out.

Now that I think of it, it might be this game with its planets within planets that gave me such fascination with labyrinthian structures and caves.

I remember from my childhood being so scared those "snakes" from intro will follow baby Torin and nanny and kill them. I think I also had some nightmare about those snakes but I'm not sure. It was very long time ago. 😄

I always credited m,y brother and our familyt for makin me so creepy cool. Its like beetle juice with cheap jokes and worse pixel art har har. That was in a snobby rich voice while ironically i am broke and getting food for free for being poor. Hail to the jewlerly

@David Lutz about torin. He was born a prince but his parents were murdered by a sorcerer. His nanny got away with him but she ultimately got caught as well and brainwashed. She was also framed as the murderer of his parents. So she became.cold.and bitter as well as brainwashed. And then your adoptive parents get kidnapped and you go and save them from his nanny.

so, watching this, I now remember that 8-yr old me got stuck and gave up literally 10 minutes before the end. This whole bagpipe in space was my personal hell, and then I didn't figure how to not get eaten by the monster at the door. I'm glad I've got some closure there, more than a decade after. thanks.

It's not among their all-stars, but Torin's Passage made a pretty good showing as one of the final traditional graphic adventures Sierra ever put out.

Am I the only one who thinks this game should definitely be remade?! How incredible would it look with modern day graphics. It was a really good story!! With some little tweeking here and there..

Unfortunately, given all the effectively hand drawn animation, an HD remake would likely cost about as much as a full length animated film. And I can't see many video game companies doing that for such a niche game.

Not only is it a really good story, but it's also an unfinished story with so much potential! It's a shame the market shifted away from point-and-click adventure games at the time (along management changes at Sierra) as this could've become a very special series IMO.

This was one of the first games I ever played as a child. Made me get into gaming as a kid. I even stream this game on occasions on Twitch and have emotes based around Torin's Passage. This game will always be amazing to me

My mother's friend bought a Gateway in 1996ish and came with a bundle of games. This was one of them. I never got very far, but the memories flood back to me! I miss the good old days...

I loved this as a kid! My cousins and I would sit around the computer working out the puzzles together. Also my computer was too slow to process the graphics, so he walked 2x as slowly as he should have. The good old days.

Get this, I played this when I was 9 years old almost 28 years ago or so and chatgpt helped me remember the name of this game after going through a list of 25 games it generated with similar genres it was the last one on it! I couldn't remember much about this game except the crystals at the start and relaxing music and puzzle elements. Im so happy to have found it ❤❤❤❤thanks for the video. xD I don't think I beat it as a child and made it maybe 1-2 hours in and some of the puzzles look quite hard if you don't know the order or patterns. I remember playing for several hours just getting to lands below lol GG!! man this is super nostalgic 🎉

1:23:58 This part always really interested me, while everyone is just "lol creepy stone face", I'm thinking how it actually hints at how all the worlds within worlds were once connected as part of a thriving and advanced civilization, ruled by a unified and powerful empire. The game may be remembered for its whimsical humor, but the lore of the world was a barely-hinted at but fascinating aspect.

Playing this game at 6 years old is one of my first memories in gaming! It was incredibly hard, specially because I didn’t even knew english so i would mostly poke around blindly. This game probably taught me more english than my classes.

Could you possibly tell me how you got the graphics to look so crisp? Are you running a VM, or is that a physical old computer? I loved this game as a kid and I recently bought it on GOG, but no matter how I play with the settings, colors, resolution, compatibility mode etc., it's FAR more pixelated than this and the colors are off. Other videos of this game seem to have the same issues I did, but not yours.

I have a question. Have you created boot disk with Torin's Passage on Boot Disk Maker? If yes, how did you mount a CD in virtual Win 3?

+StefanN189 In a VM you'll have to make sure your Dos boot files (config.sys and autoexec.bat) load a CD driver. Win 3.1 runs on top of Dos, so if the CD drive isn't recognized in Dos, Windows won't see it either. You can see what's been loaded at boot by typing in "mem" or by editing those files

I always hated going through Pergola (the third land) because the puzzles were confusing to me at the time. I do remember finally getting through it and finishing the game properly instead of chapter skipping.

Ebay is a good start. I'd also look at pirating sites as long as you protect your computer. Needless to say, you'd need an emulator to run it on a modern computer but those aren't hard to get or use.

The game only lacks subtitles. As a Brazilian kid, i could understand no more than 5% of the dialogs. Even today, It is not 100%.
