@@julioviche424 Yeah, but fade to black is much more dramatic and much more layered. There is a nice two-guitar harmony during the solo and one or two guitar(s) playing power chords.
@@bodiattila1984 that’s an opinion. And I disagree. We’re trying to discuss why the solo works in both songs, and it’s because objectively they’re played in the same key (B Minor, in this case).

@@drpivotkid90 i don't see why it wouldn't work. Lots of solos can be played over other songs and work well. I believe Stevie T has a video where he does it.
If you listen carefully, you notice the original solo's tempo doesn't fit too well here, so he increased a bit the beat of it to match the speed of Megadeth's song Awesome job!
Tornado Of Souls is my favorite solo of all time, and this is fucking nuts haha. Fits so well. The intro riff to Fade To Black is one of the first riffs I learned on guitar at ten years old. Took me awhile to get it down, but I was so proud to play it even at half speed haha. This is sick.
i’m not 100% sure if this is true, but both solos are in B minor. also they’re roughly the same length so the climaxes of the solo are at the same point in each one
Two reasons... both tracks are in B Minor, and Kirk's solo uses extremely simplistic phrasing that can fit over any riff in B Minor, however somebody else played the Tornado of Souls solo over Fade to Black, some parts of the solo didn't fit well, and this is because Marty's phrasing is much more complex. He mixes in all sorts of freaking phrasing... like in the middle of the solo where he goes into the Locrian scale and exits into B Dorian.
@@hanzohasashi4534 Kirk uses E Dorian for half the song, that isn't freaky phrasing if Marty does it lmao......the last 20 seconds is the only hard part of "Tornado of Souls", Hammett could easily do the first 40 no problem since Marty has legato with bends and vibrato for the majority of that solo. You're pretending like all Thrash lead guitarists didn't use the same exact techniques, especially these two. That crazy fast economy picking part the ends Marty's solo is LITERALLY the same thing Kirk does near the end of his climax of his - just 10% slower.
@@murk4552 The first half of the Souls solo is more difficult than most Metallica songs, but Kirk should be able to learn it, however it would take some time since Marty's bends are superior and would require Kirk to expand his guitar knowledge a bit. The end of the solo is beyond anything Kirk has ever played. The fast "economy picking" (it's alternative picking) parts of Kirk's solos use the same sequence over and over on different parts of the fret board, but in the Souls solo... every time Marty moves on the fret board, he switches the sequencing and shifts the scale, I've never seen Kirk do this in any song ever. The gap in guitar ability between Kirk and guitarists like Chris Poland or Marty Friedman is quite vast. Kirk is a great guitarist, but the lead guitarists of Megadeth are guitar virtuosos. There are levels to the guitar game. If you want a fair comparison, you should be comparing Kirk with Dave... although Dave is more skilled, Kirk isn't that far behind, and there are some things Kirk does better, but if you're going to compare Kirk to guys like Chris Broderick, Kiko Loureiro, or Marty Friedman... it's not even a competition. Those guys are multiple leagues beyond Kirk.
I was watching a a Kirk vs Dave vid and I thought to myself that fade to black was up their with tornadoes of souls and I always thought how they both sorta follow the same structure. And then I found this video 😂 Also I wonder who’ll sue this video first. Lars or Dave.

You know what tho, compare this to the video of hotel California's solo over tornado. When you write a solo off of more than just the root notes of a progression and move between more than 4 possions of a scale you are able to express so much more feeling. Wonderful video and awsome prefomance!!!
I don't know why kirk gets so much flack. His solo's rip, I guess people just prefer to follow the less successful "cooler" band. This is a quality video, excellent job. It's ok to like Metallica and Megadeth, I sure do.
Kirk gets flack because most metal guitarists start by learning Metallica. Once they advance technically they notice the Kirk never advanced. Most intermediate guitar players can play 90 percent of Kirk’s leads and riffs.
If we really get into what makes Kirk's solos he doesn't come out very well. Most of them are some permutation of the same scale runs, minor triad arpeggios and blues licks played at a moderately fast speed. There's plenty of players who outdo him in either technique or composition, and a whole lot who are better at both. And In my opinion Kirk just sounds like a teenager who's been playing for 2 or 3 years at most. There's an amount of wonkyness that's just uncanny for a professional musician.
This fits better in Tornado of Souls than in Fade to Black, specially the three note arpeggios near the end, two which are the exact chord is being played at the base melody
