May 19, 2010 The neighborhood was stirred-up and a visiting friend from Australia was a bit startled when a tornado on the ground was sighted just outside our city and warning sirens were sounded.
A lot of the guys here are spot on when they offered up what sirens are heard here. I just completed a siren survey of Cushing and during it I found four kinds of sirens: FS Modulators 4016's (5 of them), FS SD-10's (4), Sentry 3V8's (4), and one FS Thunderbeam.
@@borkluchtalarm The kid I was replying to deleted his comment. He said something about him hearing a Thunderbolt in this video. I know what Thunderbolts and Thunderbeams are lol
What an eerie sounding siren! In my town, that was the cue to head outside and look for it. All of the neighbors would be out in their driveways or patios peering skyward, lol.
@pieater53 yeah, it was pretty cool. I turned the camera straight-up at times to make sure it wasn't swirling above my head...lol The storm appeared to dissipate shortly after the siren quit sounding. We got slightly over 2 inches of rain here...the yard's like a sopping sponge...lol...so I sure am glad the mowin' got done before it hit.
@Naturalheals I think we are approximately 60 miles ENE from Oklahoma City. I've lived here all my life. Severe weather happens in this area at any time of the year, but most often in the early Spring. Thanks for watching. :)
I think I can speak for most Midwesterners in saying that we were kind of raised with these types of things, so when the sirens come on, adrenaline sort of shoots straight into your veins. You insure the safety of all the kids, then go outside to try to find a tornado ;)
I've never heard a tornado siren in my city. It rarely gets tornadoes but you want to be careful. One time, it was raining and hailing and I thought there was a tornado
I grew up in Union City Oklahoma and the siren at the fire house was used for both fire calls and for tornado warnings. If you heard the long steady blast it meant get your ass to the school and get in the basement or get in the basement at your house.
the tornado siren by my house some how disspeared and I cant hear a tornado siren when there is a tornado. luckly, I have never seen a tornado or had one hit my house. :)
Those are excellent sirens, because you couldn't possibly confuse the sound with anything else. Those things would knock you out of bed if they went off in the middle of the night.
There is a stearling siren in the fire station which was not activated because on the side of the fire station there is a pole with a sentry 3v8 siren. There is a modulator nearby and a Aca banshee dual tone or Aca screamer dual tone or a Aca cyclone. Resume: the sirens activated where: Modulator, Aca dual tone siren and sentry 3v8. Sirens not activated: stearling (fire station siren).Sorry my English is not very good! :D
I just bing mapped Cushing and so far I have comfirmed that there is a FS Modulator, A SD10 and I think a sentry at the fire station, either that or its a banshee. I will come back later and look for the Tempest because in my map there is a huge gap in the town where 1 or 2 sirens could be hiding.
I had a dream where multiple tornadoes touched down in my area and these sirens and mine were going off. I wouldn't call it a nightmare because I thought it was beautiful and scary at the same time.
Tyler Davis I had a dream about this to it was in ms with these same sirens a lot of people can recall the sirens and this sky in there dreams very strange
I thik i heard a tornado siren where i live at night! It scared me so much that i couldnt fall asleep bet when i did i would check if i was still alive..
It's weird, but hearing these two sirens together, its kind of sounds like a really really loud blower. I guess it has something to do with how the sounds mix.
@cooliesass Have you seen much wild weather out there in Oklahoma, being in tornado alley and all? I've seen some wild weather around my house, and it snuck up during the day, knocking our electricity out. I was in my basement when the power went out, but I wasn't even scared! You've got to be brave to see some wild weather where you are, being about 60 miles east northeast of Oklahoma City. I believe the wild weather I experienced happened during the summer on a rainy day as I remember it.
@cooliesass As I was looking closely at the power lines you zoomed in on, and noticed what could have been the funnel over Cushing. Was the shape behind the power lines actually the funnel that prompted this tornado warning?
@cooliesass i'm in south louisiana. it's probably same for us too. real bad storms in the spring. though the summer produces some pretty bad 10 minute to an hour storms due to me being an hour away from the gulf.
These sirens are noisy. In these situations people must take decisions, but this isn't a good enviroment for concetration and decisions. I think a siren sound with interruptions is better.
That is one of the most creepy sounds I have ever heard. I would fear the end of the world is coming if I heard this for a tornado warning. It’s peaceful at the same time though. I might just have to take a trip there to hear the sirens…
I was in a tornado once I got struck by lightening on my head and didn’t feel a thing. I also got hit in the head with a large hailstone.Still didn’t feel a thing. Lucky I have a hard head!
hope you do not mind me asking and I should also say good friend canadiancatgreen let me use his account as RU-vid is new to me I know sounds crazy but its true I am from the US and am not from a area not far from one of the sirens and I thought the sirens meant to get inside does it actually mean to just stay outside? I heard the siren put you did not go inside right away so thats why I ask hope you dont mind
