Lead singer Holly Woods was from Durham, North Carolina. The song was the only song on the album Get It On Credit, that was not written by the members of the band. Sheron Alton (guitar) and Brian Allen wrote the "What About Love", and it was recorded for this album. But the other band members didn't want to put the song on the album. The song later found it way to Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart, who knew Sheron Alton, and they recorded the song and made it a worldwide hit. Toronto have song great songs (Looking for Trouble, Even The Score, 5035, Start Telling the Truth to name a few).
@@Ilikeryche Half the members of the band were American. The Toronto music scene was huge and influential in the late 60's 70's and 80s. I am sure many Canadian thought Heart was Canadian, because Wilson sister's backing band were Canadian in 70s, and their record label was out of Vancouver. They also won Juno Awards in the late 70s, which could also be another reason. Last few times I saw Heart at Massey Hall ( 2011 & 2013) they talked about how they consider themselves honorary Canadians. I remember thinking Brenda Russel was Canadian, she as she grew up in the Hamilton area and started her music career in Toronto. Heart also recorded Lisa Dalbello's Black On Black. They have definite connection with Canadian music artists and scene, of that generation.
This was a top-ten here in Canada. "Toronto " was formed in Toronto...just an hour from where I live. Also, "Toronto" wrote and originally performed "What About Love"...later a cover hit by "Heart ".
A few other great rock n roll ladies from back in the day / Darby Mills with the Headpins takes no prisoners on Don’t it Make Ya Feel / Lee Aaron - Whatcha Do to my Body / and the great Carol Pope of Rough Trade - High School Confidential or All Touch or Birds of a Feather or Lie Back, Let Me Do Everything.
Yeah, it sounds similar and it was a year later. From Wiki: When the song began receiving radio airplay in the United States, Scott Benarde of the South Florida Sun Sentinel called it "far from the best the album offers", and opined that it "really sounds like a rip-off of a couple of Rick Springfield tunes"
