Tory MP criticises Afghans for ‘queuing at the airport’ to flee Taliban

A former Conservative international development minister has criticised Afghans for “queuing at the airport” in Kabul to flee the Taliban.
Tory MP Sir Desmond Swayne challenged Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer if he would flee his country if the UK were overthrown by a “wicked and brutal regime”.
New Forest West MP Sir Desmond asked: “Were the government of this kingdom to be overthrown by a wicked and brutal regime, I venture that he would want a leading role in the resistance, he wouldn’t be queuing at the airport would he?”
While some MPs shouted “disgrace” at Sir Desmond’s remarks, while the Labour leader hit back - saying he would not “take that” from the former Tory minister.

I can just imagine him if the Taliban were invading the New Forest...theatening the oncoming hordes with his golf club, while his family cowered behind him. Or maybe he'd be the first out, urging his consituents to fight, while heading for the Shetlands at 90mph.

Seeing that he served in HM Armed Forces in Iraq for six months, albeit being a member of the TA, I'm sure that he'd be standing shoulder to shoulder with his constituents.

Desmond Swayne is the most serpentine of all human beings. He would be the first to flee and clearly has no knowledge about life or humanity, never mind Afghanistan. This is demonstrated in this video where Keir Starmer put in in place, and desmond swayne accepted it with his tail between his legs after barking so loudly.

The majority of politicians would be. Starmer would be the first on his knees. These MPs have never lived and fought in a war in the same way post-war MPs did decades ago.

No he actually has a backbone unlike most people these days. He's one of the few MPs who has had the guts to standup against his governments shift to authoritarianism in covid restrictions. But no, discount his view down to your relatively deprived notions of privilege and any meritocratic processes for which his privilege was earned.
