Toshiba Portable Air Conditioner Water sputtering from front vent/excessive water in drain pan.

Have had this portable air conditioner since May2020. Purchased brand new and ran it all year no issues, no need to drain water. Last night I woke up to the air conditioner sputtering water from the front air vent and a P1 error code on the digital display. I Looked online and found Instructions to drain the water pan, but nothing more. I went ahead and drain the water from both rear plugs on the unit. I then removed all the filters and cleaned them. This cleared the P1 code and the unit went on to cool the air, a couple hours later it started to do the same thing, but no P1 code displayed. I repeated the steps before and it work for a couple of hours and repeated the water sputtering, but NO code. The P1 code indicates that the water needs to be drain as the floated in the water pan has reached the top level and needs to be drained. I decided to take the cover off the actual unit and give it a deep cleaning. I cleaned out a bunch of hair and junk. After cleaning it all up, I put it all back together and have been running the unit with no issues and no need to drain the water. I believe it just needed a deep interior cleaning of the internal cooling coils etc. Only made this video to help others as I could not find anything on our unit. Hope it helps, if it does give it the 👍.

How remove the back panel: 1. Remove all 10 screws from the back 2. Start pulling one of the bottom corners off by lodging a flat head screwdriver wrapped in a shirt. (I used a plastic bike tire removal tool). 3. Slowly move your way up the back panel until you reached the top. 4. Repeat for the other side

I'm not sure if anyone else has mentioned what I'm going to, but here goes: Get drain hoses. I got 1/2" hoses for mine. Get them long enough to drain out somewhere to either a bucket you can empty, or do like I did and run them outside. By putting the plugs back in you will keep the water in the unit and have to drain it again fairly often. I had the same problem and this is my fix. Working great so far, (a week later, no problems).

Is there enough water pressure for the draining water to actually make it up the hose and out the window? Also which drain plug did you put them on?

Just bought mine and installed it yesterday. Had a similar issue and found the drain corks on these are practically garbage. Ended up going to lowes and buying a 10ft (5/8 thick) clear plastic tube and two hose clamps. My ac had leaked all over the floor so had to use my shop vac to suck up all the water. But I removed the black top threaded attachment and installed the hoses on both the upper and lower drains and linked the hoses to a 5 gallon bucket so I wouldn’t have to take the unit outside. Just tried it last night and no more leaks and no drain issues.

I found that 1/2" hose works better on mine. The piece of 5/8" hose I had seemed too loose.

Thank you for this video! Comments have also been helpful. I am having this issue with my unit as well. I live in a very humid area, i drain it out and within minutes it’s still spitting water out of the top. I’m going to try a drainage hose and see if that does it

I have same looking model under ocean breeze , mine just wasn’t blowing out the entire front vent , only off to one side of it and it wasn’t cold and mine was only used for 2 seasons which amounts to 6 months of use combined here in the north east . I found a video so I could see how it came apart, and cleaned it all up underneath where all the dust and pet hair collected, but come on, these AC ‘s are not cheap, if I had a double hung window in my living room I would have a window unit instead . You pay for the convenience of being able to move this to any room with a window or do what I did and bang a hole in my living room wall to vent it into my garage since all I have is a bow window that I can’t vent out from without having it look ghetto

Thank you for your video. My AC has only been running for a couple weeks now.. And it already see yellow water on the ground.. Now I see why I have a clear tube. Its about to be 108 degrees today and trying to figure and fix my AC the day needed will be silly. Should I worry or let it pass another day?

Just take out the plugs (2) in the back and attach drain hoses, even if it's just into a 5 gallon bucket. I drilled a hole in the floor to drain it out of.

There are a total of 12 screws, including 2 screws inside the handle wells on the sides. Found that out the hard way after taking off 10 screws and tearing the those 2 out. As far as prying the plastic away, I tried it with a screwdriver until I got frustrated and simply started pulling it hard. Lost a few bits of plastic, but it went back together fine so no big loss.

Since the original poster has not replied back i'm guessing the problem is not fixed. If you live in California you might not have to install a full time drain hose like the owners manual shows, if you live in a higher humidity state you will probably need to install a full time drain hose or the small water storage tanks built into the unit will overflow which is normal. Very easy to install the full time drain hose into a bucket etc then you just empty that bucket or bowl when necessary. In high humidity areas you may have to empty every day, just according how big the bucket is or in some installations you might drill a hole for the hose to run outside. In high humidity states a window ac unit or whole house ac unit collect a LOT of moisture and you can't tell how much water/moisture it collects since it drains automatically .

Sounds like the condensate slinger motor is not running, down by the condenser coil there should be a like motor with a little wheel on the end, that motor should only kick on when there is water in the bottom pan, check. To make sure that motor is running when there is a bit of water present.
@alyssaaguire9775

Where is this motor? I’ve completely taken mine apart front and back and it has water sitting in the bottom and I don’t see any additional motor only the main large fan
@connorcruz6249
@connorcruz6249 2 года назад
@@alyssaaguire9775 it's usually situated somewhere near the condenser coil in the bottom of the air conditioner, it may be somewhat difficult to spot as it's usually pretty well protected with plastic. Biggest indication is a little black box by the condenser with two wires coming out of it.

the back top part, you put the top of it off 1st then it should come off easily after that. then when you put it back on, you just put the bottom part of it on then tap the top to snap it back in place.

The water is a byproduct from condensation dripping from the cooling coils. The higher the humidity, the more water is produced. Hopefully that helps. Try attaching a clear drain tube to the upper outlet, then down into a bucket. You might be amazed how much water discharges.
@itstek
@itstek Год назад
@@joseph-ch6gw it's not a matter of needing to drain it more efficiently, because that just temporarily relieves the issue. to actually fix the issue (which I'm sure a lot of people here have, including myself) is that there's an upper and lower drain pan, thus 2 different drain hoses. the upper pan is to drain to the bottom but the poor design of these ACs is that these tiny little drain plugs get clogged over time. so instead of draining to the larger lower pan, it begins to build up in the upper and thats why you get it overflowing/leaking/spitting out water/building condensation so quickly. pretty crap piece of technology but i suspect they didnt want to make it run efficiently for years, or else you'd never buy a new one again. tl;dr: open the AC, find where the upper pan drains to the lower, clean/unclog it and if possible, drill it to be wider. hope that helps everyone!

Not really, just not a good enough User manual! They should have included instructions on how to clean the unit, (including getting the back off), as well as how to attach hoses to drain BOTH tanks, upper and lower. I used 1/2" hoses on both and sent the exess water through the floor. No more problems so far. I WILL probably need to take the back off for a deep clean at least every 6 months. (I need to use mine in the summer, as it can get over 120F here).
