I had bought one for my tenant, but did not realize it needed draining. I didn't know what didn't know. So after paying my handyman a hefty amount to pick one up, buy some wood reinforcers for the vent pipe, unpack it, etc., he realized about the drain. He was really mad. So he took it back, but that whole activity was costly. The location of placement would not have been conducive to his moving it around, and unscrewing these caps and stuff as he is handicapped. So, placement and ability to drain them is important. I have a de-humidifier, and I have to empty it three times a day, and for me that is no problem. You live and learn.
I forgot about the draining. I've had it 2 or 3 weeks. I will check it out today and see if there's any water in there. It's in the living room, so I turn it off at night. Thank you for the video
Excellent excellent. With the horrible heat and humidity now, my two drain hoses have to remain open with a heavy towel underneath. One of them filled up so bad I had to carry The towel in a bucket
@@GS-st9ns that is a great idea. That way you don’t have to. Keep checking it every day. Just have to drain the bucket. Good luck thanks for watching. Stay cool.
If you have much at all coming out the bottom plug, or just dripping out the bottom, check for the factory suction line insulation coming unwrapped and allowing condensation to form. Re-wrap the insulation and secure it with a zip tie or two. You should have a hose into a bucket attached to the upper plug. Don't try to take the back cover off without watching one of the videos on it.
I have a cap for the top plug but the bottom plug the maintenance man talked about with my warranty probably the other plug-in throw it out.. so now I'm noticing it is leaking a little at the bottom of the indoor air conditioner. Any suggestions. I don't really understand what you're saying in your comments I'm a woman and I'm not to savvy with this air conditioners.
We returned our Hisense AC with heat pump one because water was Dripping a lot from under the machine onto the floor like puddles so we got another one and hopefully this one will be okay got it from Costco
I just got the Toshiba 14k BTU Smart 550sqft Portable AC + Heat unit (model RAC-PT1412HVWRU). I've read conflicting things about not required to drain it in cool mode vs draining it. My other one (an older 6000 BTU single hose style) does require draining about every 3z4 days or so (I never let it build up enough to notify it is full). This one I've read does NOT require draining as it uses the condensation to cool the components. Also, another interesting thing.... This one has THREE drain ports on it. Top is for when ran in heat mode, middle for dehumidify/dry mode, and bottom for cool mode. I really LOVE the dual hose model as it completely stops the negative air pressure (felt by those with single hose units). This one has one hose technically but that one hose has a "hose within a hose" so it's both intake AND exhaust in ONE larger diameter hose together. Game changer!
Read better talk less. Did you WATCH the video? They ALL need draining in humidity why do you think they all have drain ports. It clearly states you can require draining in humid climates on cool. If it has the bottom for cool mode, what makes you think it won't "work". Also that's not right both drains need draining on cool in humidity.YOU SEE IT RIGHT ON THIS GUY"S VIDEO.
I have a carrier brand a/c, but it seems like they are all OEM, i did notice a Midea brand a/c identical to mine. What i want to know is what is the different between the top drain hose and bottom one, and can you just connect a hose and lead it to the drain, because my room is very hot, about 35c sometimes, a 5 litres container fills up in about 8 hrs, is this normal. is it best to leave some condensation water in the a/c. thanks
Yes, you could connect that top drain directly into a bucket we’re in Florida and it’s super humid here so we have to drain it every day. The bottom one I put a sheet tray under it. Good luck thanks for watching.
I have the Toshiba portable air conditioner: RAC-PD1313CWRU. I ran it for ~ 3 hours when we first installed it, and it leaked gallons of water during that time. The top drain has the hose attached and nothing came out of it, so I guess the water came from the bottom drain. I turned it off & haven't tried to use it again since. We can't figure out what we did wrong. Any suggestions of what to check.
Usually if it fills with water, it automatically shuts down. It shouldn’t be leaking. It should only have water coming out. If you unscrew the plug you have to make sure that that plugs in and screwed on tight on the bottom.
Purchased: August 2022 - still works GREAT! ru-vid.comUgkxxsUnXhGsSJLim_XnMHyQK0u3XVaW-CGn I live in a studio and during the summer it gets scorching hot - really old building with no ac units. I can’t express how EASY it was to install. This unit has been a life savior during the summer and some days during other seasons where it can still be a bit warm at night. In this small place is my friend, a husky, poodle mix and myself. We need AC - lolI don’t use the dehumidifier option - I’m not sure if it will leak in my house, since I did not install the small draining hose that came with it. May look into it late but I don’t worry about much humidity in the apartment.I don’t understand why the negative reviews since all things mentioned, I personally did not find issues with. Definitely worth it!
You don't actually have to drain it if it doesn't fill up, when it's not to humid it's able to get rid of the water by splashing it on the hot condenser, evaporating it and sending it outside making the unit more efficient
Your answer is the exact question I had. I just got a new black and decker portable, and have been afraid of the water it was accumulating. It says in directions, it will shut down when full. Again, thank you.
why do these units have 2 drain holes instead of 1 big one at the bottom? with a dehumidifier function, would expect much more water. I bought and returned a Midea one built just like this one.
Not sure if you rge answer to my question. I have a similar air conditioner with the sane tubes for draining. It has been crazt humid recently maybe only one or two days this week. I have had to empty both drains everyday as I have water on the floor underneath the air conditioner everday. The drains drain a lot of water daily. It was barely humind, I just had air conditioner mainly to cool the room. Anyways any ideas why there is so much water daily? It could be leaking from somewhere. Someone said it could be clogged. I tried to unscrew the back, but unsure to even see if they are clogged
I do believe that one is the humidifying and one is from condensation on the coils so you could put tubes on both of them leading into a bucket and then empty the buckets or just drain the machine I know in Florida I had to drain it every day is it so humid here so very humid area that may be the case. Good luck thanks for watching. Stay cool.
You have to have your flex hose out the window when you’re running the AC I’m not too sure about the dehumidifier though but when you run the AC, it’s still dehumidifies the house because you end up with lots of liquid being produced on the heat exchange. Good luck thanks for watching.
I didn’t even know you were supposed to drain these units, I thought that was only for the Dehumidifier mode. I just checked the drains on my unit and nothing came out and I’ve had it for a few years. Does that mean I’ll need to try and drain it more often after applying this chemical?
If you’re in a super dry place with no humidity, you won’t get a lot of water but if you’re in Florida like we are may have to drain every day. Good luck stay cool thanks for watching.
If you have a drain hose attached to the upper or middle outlet, why do you still need to drain the bottom? Mine needs draining after using the heat mode despite having a hose attach to the middle outlet.
So mine smelled moldy and I used this video to drain the bottom plug and it had definitely acquired some moldy water. Can I access the tank that mold is coming out of to clean it somehow?
I guess you could put some bleach and water in there using a hose and then pour it out. I never thought about doing that though you could give it a try good luck stay cool this summer.
Omg, I forgot to pull out the plug after unscrewing the knob. After watching this video I'll get right to it. I hope it drains because I have water on my carpet which I'll use the carpet cleaner to remove the water after. 😊
I have a Haier dual and it’s the best. No drainage at all. I also have one like yours and it’s a real pain. I am unable to lift it to properly drain in and it fills up every second day. It does however warn me, with an error message, if it needs emptying. I’d never buy another one like this.
I think most of the new ones now have that evaporation system on them or you don’t have to drain them I bought a hisense that had this and it worked great. I didn’t have to drain it. Good luck stay cool.
Yes, you can use that drain hose, but make sure that you check it every once in a while just in case good luck, stay cool this summer. Thanks for watching.
Sorry guys ... that little amount of water is what escaped while removing and putting drain plugs . You should know that the more water removed from the air the cooler it feels, which means that any air conditioner is capable to act as a dehumidifier: and for the Toshiba to act as such, one needs to use Cool Mode and Hook up the drainage tube to the upper hole using 1-2 gallon bucket to catch it WHILE the Toshiba is Running! You can expect 1 pint+ per hour if you live in the south.🙂
This definitely sucks water out of the air and it has a control setting to dehumidify but just putting it on cool pools a lot of water I had to drain it every day thanks for the tips and good luck with your AC
Every air conditioner is a dehumidifier, if it doesn't fill just leave the water in it and it will splash on the hot condenser, evaporating it sending it outside and making the unit more efficient
I’m in the south and even after a few months mine had little water in it. If it dries the air and produces water, what does the Dry setting do? The same just better at it?
Yes you need to check the to drain plugs in the back usually the bottom one has the most water in it you can also put a hose on the drain plug into a bucket but I just drained it every day
Had mine on for 12 hours an it filled up a gallon of water almost ..sucks now I gotta figure out to run a pipe drain all the way outside or to the sink
I’m not quite sure if it shuts off I would think it would or it was just legal everywhere I never let it get that far we drink it every day thanks for watching
Mine just started gurgling and spitting water out of it while it ran. Reduced output of cool air but mostly loud and keeps you up at night. Drained the unit from both plugs and works like a charm again
Well, you can pull the machine apart and clean the exhaust port and tube pretty easy machine also has two filters that you can clean good luck. Thanks for watching.
@@TomLeeman I am also in Orlando well I'm in Orlando Florida but yeah I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or if it's just broken which one do you recommend
If you get a P1 on the temp window, it means your bottom pan if full. Turn off the unit, open the plug and turn on the unit til the water stops. The upper drain is for the dehumidifier only.
You could give it a try and see if it works. It’ll have to go against gravity to really push it but that could be an option. Good luck stay cool thanks for watching.
Mine leaks a tremendous amount of water and even if we try draining it, almost nothing comes out. It’s so annoying having to clean up a puddle of water everyday!
Hello , maybe somebody know why mine ac botom hole dry, nothing comes from there, but all the water goes from the top. Is that a problem? Or its normal?
Mine does the same. No matter if I tilt it or anything else. Both bottom and middle one connected to drain hose are always bone dry, yet my top one produces several glasses of water a day when I manually drain it
No those are reservoirs that collect the condensation and you have to empty them not fill them that’s where the water collects and you have to pour it out every couple days if you’re in Florida
Let me start by saying there is zero judgement of anyone's A/C from my end, I'm just a curious person. I have a Whynter ARC-14S that has 1 drain plug and I've seen other models than yours that also have 2 drains. Why do some portable ACs have 2 drains instead of 1?
I have a Hisense that I was wondering plug on the bottom, but it seems like anything higher than 6000 BTU as two drain plugs and I’m not sure why I have to do more research on that
Great video! But oh my gosh! I forgot about draining. We never drained it and we used it for about 2 months in 2023 and 2022. Will it grow mold?! Now I am scared. I live in New York, so humidity is not a big deal, and it has never overflowed. But it shut off spontaneously twice, so maybe that's why. Eeekk
Most of the time the water inside will evaporate…if for some reason is too much water it will stop working until you remove the water. You don’t have nothing to worry
@@TomLeeman thanks Tom I’ll do that asap. I had no idea. been using mine nonstop for 4 days straight and noticed that it’s been less and less efficient. It’s probably full of water since I live in south Texas. Have a good day Tom I appreciate you
Dam I never clean mine , I turn it off cause the air was smelling and I didn’t know why then a friend came over and told me I had to clean the water tanks
I completely did too, then realized my ac was making the air cooler but raising the humidity. So far it got to around 70% humidity in my house and is musty. So I'm desperately looking for any suggestions lol , and this video is helping so far.
@@JM-ob7mb yeah I thought I read in my manual you don’t need to drain except on dehumidify/ auto- but now I have an issue with the smell too. I think you’re supposed to do something prior to storage to prevent that. Don’t think there’s a way to clean the drain pan itself. I’ve been looking everywhere
That's all the water in there? After running for like 16 hours? I bought the 6,000 BTU model for $319 at Home Depot and they accidentally gave me the 8,000 model which normally costs $399. I just turned it on for the first time and am going to run it for a bit, although I am going out of the house. It says it will beep 8 times and shut off when it needs to be emptied, so I'll see how long that takes. So I'm going to turn it off and run it again when I get home. I hope it will last at least 8 hours.
I have a drain line attached to the upper drain and it drains right out the window so why is it still Licking it just started last night and I've had this thing for over 6 months
