Bike Fit Measurement Web App I'm using: www.obstri.com...
I've been a physical therapist for over twenty years and I've been a professional bike fitter nearly all of that time.
Comments and Questions: I love constructive, thought-provoking comments and questions. Anyone with helpful information is welcome to share it. But I want to make clear a few things - the discourse here should be civil. Anyone name-calling, denigrating, trolling or picking fights will be summarily banned. Don’t like it? Tough.
Second, just like any good scientist I try to present ideas in as open a context as possible - I try to avoid using the words always or never since as we know in clinical work and research, they rarely apply. Scientific and clinical practice teaches us that there are gray areas, and so everyone should feel comfortable expressing their opinion.
However, anyone expressing more than just their opinion/experience OR giving advice as an expert should be prepared to share their full name and credentials. Yes, we'd like to know who you are and what training/education you have to back up these strong beliefs. If you have a Master's Degree or PhD in kinesiology, physiology, physical therapy, or whatever may be applicable to the argument at hand. We'd like to know that. If you're just some guy who once read a couple research articles but you trade commodities as a profession, then we'd like to know that too. As I'm able, I will step in and ask for name and credentials in these situations....
The long and short of it? I'd like to keep things more civil and I'd like people to have a better idea of who is giving out information. Thanks everyone!

Hello John, I have to say that I have learned alot from watching your videos, and as a Kinesiology major myself I have found it very beneficial in understanding not only what is going on with myself but other people when they ask me questions. I do like your Q&A sessions also so i have to say is keep up the good work. Also I was wondering if you could suggest a good place, for learning how to be a bike fitter.

Dear John. First of all thanks for all the great videos. I really enjoy watching them. Here's my topic: I have insanely long legs and a short torso. That makes fitting difficult. I have experimented with long and high stems and shorter and slammed stems. I have come to the conclusion that, even if the distance to the bars being the same with both setups, I feel the short and low setup to be more "correct". Would you also say that the length is more determined by your actual length and the drop is more determined by your mobility? Thanks in advance. Keep up the good work. Greetings from Germany. Christian

Like the viewer questions. Thanks to you John I'm solving my saddle fit issue. I found a saddle mapper, who discovered I was way to forward on the nose, hence the numbness. He also was not happy with bar tape under my insole, what your take on that? I was getting tingle foot. He changed me to specialized sl foot bed with a metatarsal button. Thanks John

I have some hand numbness and pain when I ride outside, but on my dedicate indoor bike setup, I don't. The indoor set up has a slightly higher bar position which I would like to duplicate on my outdoor bike. Does anyone know of a database of available stems? What I am looking for is something like a 10 degree 100 or 110.

John, on my mountain bike, I can ride a long time on a flat road, but on the hills or technical elements of the trails I have severe pains in the lower back (in the muscles). Do I need a bikefit or do I need to do muscle building exercises? And also, if I have pains in the medial meniscus, but the feet are already as close to the frame as possible, what can I do?

Hey John, i was wondering if you had any advice. i've noticed recently that on my road bike i tend to sit a bit "twisted" on the saddle with my right side having a bit of extra pressure against where the saddle gets wider with basically none on my left which i think is also causing more pressure on my left hand. i've tried moving the saddle back and fourth, dropping and raising the seat and bars but nothings seems to work. i don't seem to have this issue on my flat bar commuter with as close to identical setup as it could be.
