I was a team member during the creation of this MOD though I will admit my input was minor( I created the lighting effects the dust clouds and the skies). What I can tell you is the expertise of the other members was very impressive including professors of history etc. All in all a great experience and yes I still play it today
I somehow still have a high hope that you guys will port this to Remaster. Yes, I understand that you guys are still working with EB II using M2TW platform, but well, hoping won't hurt :D
I'm really liking the reviews, I'd be curious about what your thoughts are on the Great War mod for Napoleon Total War. I remember trying it when it first came out and being very disappointed with the battles, not sure how much it's changed since then. Keep up the great work!
@@ChaseUens I don't remember the campaign being the problem, it's just that the AI would charge in battle without any idea of how to fight in WWI fashion, which makes sense because they are hardcoded to fight in 19th-century line formations.
@@saguntum-iberian-greekkons7014 Sadly, CA just lost their almost Unique quality of delivering games that reflected gamer Values, and so became just another money based organisation. The Original CA was a wonder to behold, and shame on them for surrendering their core values
@@numberboxgamer These are more like total general overviews of what the mod does. In order for him to go into detail in DaC he would have to wait for 3.0 and then play it for a few months too.
He already played this in on earlier patch on donators' request. He doesn't enjoy LOTR content he said multiple times during that playthrough , doubt he will ever play it again.
Q: In custom battles or multiplayer the unit selection is missing units. A: All of the regionals cause a problem for the custom battle / multiplayer list. There is a special EDU for custom battles / multiplayer in the "...Rome- Total War\EB\mp custom game edu" folder. Rename your campaign EDU then place the EDU from that folder into the "...Rome - Total War\EB\Data" folder. When you want to play a campaign again, switch back to your original EDU. EB v1.1 now comes with the trivial script, which will automatically switch the files for you. To play custom battles or multiplayer battles with all of your factional units, run the "Play Multiplayer" option of the trivial script. -From the EB FAQ I mean, you probably don't plan to upload another video just for a custom battle, but still that's what was going on in case anyone wondered
A few big differences you didn't go over: Units/Armies are costs are much higher in this game. Upkeep and Recruitment will affect your Economy greatly. Economies are harder to build. Mercenaries are extremely expensive, practically not worth it. Ships are ridiculously expensive, but definitely worth it. Conquering far-away lands are a bitch, because you can't restore your depleted armies that can only be recruited in your homelands. Characters and character traits are a big deal. They make a huge effect in the game. For example "Hale and Hearty" will give your general +3 hit points. There are some mining traits or retinue that will give you extra 30% mining income. Mining is a big deal in this game. Takes like 20 turns or some ridiculous amount but it is well worth it. Some settlements have special buildings that can be destroyed for a large sum, but many times are worth keeping. Certain settlements give you special troop units. For example 1. You can get CRETAN Archers in only Crete, Syria, and a few other settlements with a Type 4 gov't building... (i think u need type 4, it's been a couple years since I played this game.) These bitches are OP when you ship them to fight against barbarian nations. 2. Thracia has very cool unique units such as - Galatian Heavy Spearman and also those dudes who hold a large ass sword with 2 hands... Thraikioi Rhomphaiaphoroi (Elite Thracian Infantry) BATTLE MECHANICS Your control has to be much better in this game. For Example, Calvary will not charge properly unless you line them up and properly face them in the direction of your charge. Another big one- if you order your infantry to attack a group, but the AI charges a different enemy group at your unit, your unit will not do a good job of attacking this enemy group even though they are engaged in battle with each other. You must actually order your own unit to attack this new group of units that are engaged with your unit. Fatigue is a HUGE factor. And many units fatigue quickly, especially the heavy/armored units. Flanking makes a big difference. Units take a much longer time to die. Infantry vs infantry takes forever... this is when you use cavalry to rout them with a charge and easily clean them up. Calvary is the difference between a long battle and a quick one. Calvary actually does make a Great difference... especially for Clean Up. The difference between a close victory to possibly battle again versus a decisive victory to not have to battle again. Must hurry in late-game Sieges or you will run out of time. However, I like to have a timer, because it gives me an advantage if I'm heavily outnumbered whether it is a siege or a pitched battle. More importantly, it gives me a chance for my general to stay alive. An invaluable general that has been meticulously groomed with special traits and retinue for countless seasons. Okay... there's more, but i'm done. I love this game, forever
I’m Extremely honored to be highlighted in this channel! 2 last tips: “Favour of the gods” is probably the best trait in the game. And any characters with 4 names instead of the usual 3 will kick ass.... example: Publius Cornelius Scipio Asina (but don’t use this guy as faction heir [unlesss you are a beginner] because Cotta has more potential at 16 yrs old with great traits. This is just an example of a character with 4 names)
I remember downloading this mod. I liked the way it looked and the new factions but I found gameplay veeeery tedious. I remember being confused about government types and some other things. Two things that I hate most are the fact that most units are regionally restricted (which makes you armies look like dog's breakfast) and the fact that they are not colour coded by faction (romans should be red so I could tell my units apart from the enemy's; I really don't care if they were red historically but it makes for a better gaming experience)
@@stejar12345 Well, in my experience only in the technical part because you have to code more stuff and make a new engine (somtimes). But when it comes to certain concepts i think it's about equal. Except one side is payed and the other often not and because one side doesn't have to behave according to a deadline i suppose it can kinda explains why mods often do some things better the original devs just never really thought about or it was too time constraining to include it or the head of development (or whatever you call it) just in't like it at all. But oftentimes modding teams sorta run the same way though. It's really hard to come up with new shit and how to put it ingame. Modder or not. Believe i tried this myself once.
For those considering buying R:TW, it's currently 66% off on Steam atm. It's already a cheap game, so just grab it now if you haven't done so already :)
@@hugo3627 I play it on win 10 with no issues. I have RTW cracked, RTW from steam, RTW BI, Alexander and RTW Roma Surrectum. They all work with n oissues on win 10
Speaking of unknown factions, anyone heard anything of the AUH mod (all under heaven)? It's focused on asia with the mongol horde on the eve of throwing themselves against the jin. It even promised to include a tibetan faction! It's been in development since 2007 i think. Last time i checked he merged with another chinese dev team and shared assets between them, that was like 5 years ago.
One of my favorite playthroughs was as Baktria... I created an empire and had a fierce rivalry with the Seluicids... I created 4 armies and invaded Mesopotamia but they were able to hold me after I took Selucia but my empire still stretched from Mesopotamia to India. It was a great playthrough and it was nice having an AI that actually built armies and kept me on my toes. The population mechanic made it so I couldn't completely replenish my armies. After they held me I had to take a defensive posture until my armies were reinforced. By that time they had armies to match mine and even launched a counter attack into Persia which diverted my forces from continuing my conquests. I love EB
A note for those who don't know about the "length of battle" and how long they seemingly take compared to Rome Total War Vanilla. The ED squad decided to add a more robust/realistic moral system to their units. A good to great general 4+ stars with an army of capable units that have 1-2 experience chevrons will be a formidable foe indeed. In vanilla Rome so often the unit cohesion was fantastically unrealistic. The trained Roman Hastati ranks and especially the trained Greek hoplites should have been able to maintain an order of battle and remain in their trained stances during a melee. E.B. I&II take this into account and it really gives the feel of slogging through a bruising bloody battle that may swing back and forth and that one opening taken advantage of at that one moment can win the day. I really admire this Mod as much for the battle AI as much as the time and work put into creating the more logical systems for the economy etc. etc, This is basically what happens in this mod. Your troops will def. react well to keeping your line's flanks protected and all the other tricks and such a good general can employ to make success a more realistic prospect. In vanilla Rome units take some casualties , run away, regroup and just stand around until ordered back to the fight by which time other units are chain routing...and once a unit has been shaken they were much more likely to be unable to fight again effectively in a single battle in Rome I. Give Europa Barbarorum a try. The battles are fabulous at times and due to their better pacing but the org. battle to shame. BTW. Peace 2 you LegendofTotalWar. Europa Barbarorum mods both I&II need mad love and this vid was a very decent introduction. P.S. I also mod back in the Rome Total War music....the way to go imho! Rock on folks!
This was my favourite mod for the entire Total War series. I have PTSD remembering the hundreds of battles to hold Iuvavoaeta against the Sweboz. Oh, I think it's time to download EB2 for Medieval 2 and give it a good tumble...
I was always holding Northern Italy and beaches of South Gaul with whole Spain and waiting for marian reforms (Sweboz + Gauls every turn were trying to take Mediolanum xD, always epic siege).
Yeah too bad the first one for rome was banned on twcenter because they messes with .exe of the game at the time. I still have their files though. Put it on disc before it got taken down. Don't remember where i put it though. jeez it's so long ago.
I think EB is the greatest mod every made for a Total War game. It’s very old now, but you could still put it up against any overhaul made today and it would still hold its own if not even beat out the new ones.
From your description it definitely sounds worth checking out. The govt system you described actually reminds me of (and maybe that's what model they built it on) of how Roman society during the empire period was structured - in terms of how they had varying levels of citizenship and semi-citizenship that were open to different people depending on where they lived in the empire. very similar to what you described - only certain populations were eligible for full roman citizenship, which came with certain perks and rights etc, but the populations of client states that were brought into the empire over time would be granted limited version of citizenship (I can't remember the actual term for it) that afforded some rights to these peoples, but not the full deal. As such, one of the ways the Romans bought allegiance from the aristocracy of newly conquered or absorbed areas was to offer the ruler and their family and maybe a limited number of the higher-ups full roman citizenship, whereas the rest of the population were granted the limited variety. Anyrate, what you described very much sounds like an approximation of that - which is really cool and an interesting dynamic to add to the game which makes it feel much more historically aligned, which is a big plus in my book. great review and good suggestion.
Another thing I thought i'd mention about this mod is that you can get it to run off both the BI and Alexander executable and the Alex.exe has much better combat and StratMap AI.
For faction specific troops in custom battles, you need to start it in multiplayer mode (through the configuration shortcut). That way you can play with any era troops, like Polybian or post-Marian Romans.
If I remember correctly, the reason EB battles took so long was that the lethality of melee weapons were turned down to 10 or 15%. So even if your troops got in the hits, they didn't necessarily kill anyone.
There is a mod called "The Dominion of Man" by far the best mod for TwR1 that is based off of lord of the rings, it takes place in the fourth age of lotr, and my current campaign{Haradrim Empire btw} wouldn't stand a chance even when upgraded a lot compared to some of the groups like Gondors and Arunds decent troops but, I learned that Haradrim Soilders the basic infantry have javelins, I only learned that on accident, I had them in a line and put them on fire at will when I noticed it, javelins, are so so good, there was 162 troops in each of the Haradrim infantry and they through the javelins if the jav landed it killed or heavy wounded who it hit, they're entire armies front was ripped up, soooo I hope you check it out, its a lot of fun and it is really well done.
Europa Barbarorum 2 is one of my favorite mods ever. Playing as Epirus and remaking Alexander's empire after taking Italy was one of my top 3 campaigns of all time.
This game has been upgraded to 1.3 version couple years and is quite awesome, though EB2 is still a great and enhanced mod ever downloaded , as you can see, this latter has been fancied by many fans. Good vid , mate! Cheers!
That didgeridoo-sounding instrument is actually an ancient Celt instrument called the carnyx. Despite being a brass horn, it can be played in a way that sounds almost identical to the Australian wooden horn.
Biggest memory I have of this mod is playing as Ptolemeys and fighting Seleucids. I killed their army relatively quick but they had an armored elephant that I fought for an hour. The battle timed out because none of my troops could penetrate the armor.
Review Third age: total War (Divide & Conquer) I've played this mod for many hours, totally rekindling my love for Medieval 2. I know you aren't a particular fan of Lotr, but I think this mod deserves a mod review from you. Love the content!
I really enjoy your videos; I do want to let you know that not everyone on you tube has short attention spans, f you are pandering to those people they will leave as fast as they arrive, I often times cant play total war, because of the heavy time investment, but I do enjoy long videos of people playing the game. I hope you continue to do what you are doing. Thank you
Great mod. It's like a whole new game. Battles can be slow and sometimes, for me anyway, a little too slow. But overall a great mod and a great review of the game.
I'm playing this mod right now. Was a diehard fan of the original EB on Rome, and I say this iteration is a much-improved and worthy successor. It's a lot more stable on Medieval II than it was on Rome 1, while the hard-coded limits allow for more units, more territories, more factions, and more gameplay mechanics (castles representing nomadic camps in this mod, for example). The game is definitely far far slower than normal TW gameplay (I'm nearing 100 turns in my Kimmerios Bosporos campaign and have ONLY JUST NOW subdued the Sauromatae, expanding my empire to a glorious 10 territories - or rather 10 allied tribes, in the mod's internal logic!), but I actually like it, as it allows for more realistic movement rates across the campaign map, seasons and more character development. Everything being so expensive forces you to prioritize your goals and sometimes sacrifice settlements to save your troops, always planning long-term. I found that a nice change of pace from my usual unchallenged steamroll across the map. The one thing I don't like is how damn long it takes to break through a chokepoint in siege battles.
are you familure withthe Rome Total Realism mod at all. it adds a number of settlements for example in places like Sicily. the start date is taken back 10 years before the vanilla start date meaning that the first major challenge as Rome id Pirus of Epiros . any how i wonderd if your at all failure with it
Great video ! thanks for the infos ! Btw, just a tip for the latin prononciation, its Yoo-Lee, not Julee-i, Skee-pee, not skeepee-i, and Brutee, not brutee-i :) The double i i in latin does not work as an acronym, its literally a double i, and is pronounced as an extension of the sound "ee"
@@bloatedpotato Dio A Dio A Dio A Never played 3, but I saw a Greek "hippotoxotai" (horse archer) unit that was supposed to actually be manned by actual Greeks so that just sounded strange to me. I mean like sure maybe some random Greeks tried copying it for fun, but a recruitable unit? I just like EB's events and reforms better and feel it definitely has better music as well. That said though, RS's strong point is in its legion system.
I'd be kinda interested in seeing you play more with unplayable factions that are missing basic components of the game or have features no other faction has; it really changes things up. Like Rebels from Med 2's general campaign- tons of borderline useless manpower tied up in tiny spread-out armies, agents that spawn on their own and cannot be recruited like witches, and the weirdness of low public order spawning rebel troops on your side, incentivizing you to destroy courthouses (in true smelly peasant rebellion fashion, of course) and jack up taxes on your fellow revolutionaries.
Check out Diadochi Total war its like EB, it was released later and it contains BI and ALX. I think it has slightly larger map, different design ,units, music(it has epic music from movies such as alexander, gladiator etc) simiral buildings and culture. I think the same team made it or some of the guys from EB. Those two mods are my childhood in Total war i was really enjoining them back in the time.
I have that mod and it looks great. But the camera controls in battle are really weird and not at all like any other game I've played on the TW2 engine. It threw me off playing the mod. Is there any way to reset the camera controls to default?
This is the best mod of all time. It is so meticulously researched. And you can tell how much it influenced Rome 2's unit visuals which was one of the few things Rome 2 did right was actually make historically accurate, unique and varied units. However if you're not a history nerd I don't see it being that great as the load times are forever. The most fun factions are by far the Arabs and the Bactrians
Nice review. Would also be interested to hear your opinion about the Darthmod for the Empire Total War. For me, that mode changed the game completely for me and made it actually quite enjoyable, but also challenging.
Best mod bar none, and better than the base game by far. Probably spent 100s of hours playing it. A lot of the overworld tracks for eastern factions are pleasant to listen to, but the celtic/barbarian tracks tend to be headache-inducing.
Battles last longer eh? I played the Expanded Greek Mod and the first battle as Rome against Prryhus was a devastating defeat for me because of how tough units were compared to vanilla and how long they would stay in combat, I lost momentum. When I tried again, and I mean really tried, I won the battle with under a 1/3 of my force lost (mostly skirmishers and cavalry) using skirmish and luring tactics and the battle took me well over an hour. The battle though was probably one of the most realistic in terms of how it went. Lots of posturing pre-battle, forming ranks and maneuvering for any possible advantage. A proper skirmishing phase with light troops and cavalry, cavalry engagements on the wings, harassing enemies lines with what was left of the skirmishers after theirs were finished. The Hastati advanced on the Phalanxes, after a brief period Prryhus committed himself and I committed my centre princeps and hit them with cavalry and skirmishers in melee from behind and rolled the enemy line from centre to flanks. I trust your opinion and so I'm gonna give this mod a try! A new challenge is always welcome and I hope I can have some more really cool moments
Dude, it should probably be mentioned here that they have actually continued the development and are I believe two or three versions further by now. This is 1.1 and I think the current one is 1.3C or something, and they really improved on several issues. If anyone thinks about getting this, make sure it's the most current version for stability sake alone. It's worth it, I promise. If you like deep and intense campaigns, this is the best Total War "game" of all time IMO.
Broken Crescent for Medieval II Republic of China 1924 for Medieval II Genghis Khan/Mongol mod for Rome: Barbarian Invasion Morning Sun (Total War Centre version) for Shogun II
This shit don't work for me. I had no problems on my old computer but now that I've upgraded to a better computer I can't get the mod to run. Everything is installed correctly but when I click the EB single player.exe it just starts the vanilla game...I tried messing with launch options>-mod:eb , I tried messing with shortcuts, install fixes, delete folders, reinstall everything bla bla bla, nothing's working. I can play Vanilla Enhanced mod and other shit but EB just refuses to run. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong.
If u try EB ll and play the greek states u need to put 40 years or older characters that have 1 or more influence in their home settlement to trigger reforms please like so legend can see
Have you ever tried Roma Surrectum (II) for RTW? If not I strongly recommend it! P.S. Also third age for M2TW P.S. 2 Rome Total Realism as well for RTW but never tried this one!
the saromatae are the sarmations, if im not mistaken scythia were wiped out by the saromatae about 300 bc and are not historically accurate in rome 1 as they were already wiped out but their culture is pretty much the same
nice one, thanks for this legend! I'm looking forward to see a review on Rome Total Realism (platinum edition?), as this was my favourite mod off rome 1. I'm curious what you think about and maybe there's some stuff that I didnt know so far.
Eb is never uninstalled of my pc even if I don't play it for months it stays there. Its huge part of my playing experience. First thing i am going to install if have a new pc
Hey guys was just wondering if someone could help me get this running on my laptop. I tried it before with the help of a video but one of the files required was no longer at the link they provided.
Great review, I started playing EB one month ago! Can you please do a review on the Extended Greek mod as well? It was my favourite some years ago! ^ ^
How can you get an acceptable fps rate in this mod? Rome I runs just fine but EB is somehow killing my performance. Has anyone got an idea how to increase fps in this mod? I'd really like to start playing it again.
This mod looks awesome, but when i try to play Rome: total war, the campaign map runs at about 15 fps. Does anyone know how to make this game run well?
does anybody know are they going to remaster rome 2? graphics are too bad l cant play it but l want to because carthage vs rome hannibal and stuff you know :D
