It's shockingly reminiscent of what happened to the merchants in Elden Ring. If I didn't already know what chaos in WH was i'd say the same outer god in ER wriggled its influence into both universes.
@@polca4love some lore says they are. For example it is said they make the armor for chaos warriors. Until that was/wasn't retconned. Even in game though the hellcannons in the warriors of chaos army are manned by chaos dwarfs.
I love that they went for the two styles for the chaos dwarfs hats, the simple round ones and the old crazy spikey ones, it brings more variety overall.
@@devilskiss8421 I thought that was their main theme. IDK, never was around to play them on the tabletop, and I just assumed they were "Assyrians but shorter, spikier, and with more glorious hats."
@@chanalan7670 vermintide is a fantastic game, but the community is a bit peeved at fat shark for the state of dark tide. They are relearning every lesson they should have learned with vermintide
Dont forget Fat shark (Vermintide) and C7 (P&P) !!! We live in the golden age of Warhammer Fantasy. Never was there so much awesome stuff released so quickly.
Agreed. GW took the aesthetic and ran with it to fantastic heights. Chaos dwarfs are now my favorite army simply because of how incredibly cool their troops, characters and warmachines look.
I mean the Empire as they were before the end times was close to an industrial era itself. Steam tanks and advanced artillery just being a few examples.
Chaos Dwarves, from what I've read are definitely an interesting alternative to the originals. They may worship Chaos but have several benefits, such as not lettting a massive aversion to innovation hold them massively back as well as allowing dishonored dwarves to redeem themselves through their actions. Dishonor was basically a death sentence for the traditional Dwarves.
Yeah Warhammer Chaos has a funny like that. Its not necessarily "evil" but it takes good traits and amplifies them to a destructive extreme, while also occasionally freeing the corrupted from toxic traits they already had. It looks at every trait without context and "improves" it. Everything the Dwarfs pride themselves on, the Chaos Dwarfs do more. Everything the Dwarfs do that is counterproductive and holds them back, the Chaos Dwarfs abandoned. This doesn't make them better, it makes them an inversion. What makes one good makes the other bad.
@@dragonforge4411 I wanna see what kind of battle animations/effectiveness it will have. To be fair, the K'Daii Destroyer looks like an oversized skaven Rat Ogre with metal plates all over.
Everything about this looks like it was ripped directly from the classic depictions of these guys. No unnecessary facelifts, no updates to make them look more probable, just pure, beautiful old school 80's/90's Warhammer jank I love so dear. Praise Hashut, the Chaos Dwarfs have arrived at last.
As far as I can tell the deal is Hashut largely shields them from those downsides, so long as they tyrannize and sacrifice others. There are definitely some mutations though like the bull centaurs, and their sorcerers are cursed to eventually turn to stone (which we see an allusion to in the trailer-that's why the daemonsmith has mechanical legs)
@@seanm9824 it's not that they are cursed to turn into stone. It's that they turn to stone because they weren't made to handle casting spells. They were made to endure magic and forge it into runes, not to have the winds of magic flow through them to summon walls of fire and so on.
Can we just admire this ladies voice acting. She sounds initially regal, then gets more and more power hungry as it goes on and it gave me so many goose bumps.
The trailer team deserves a raise... Every time they outdo themselves and those trailers keeping getting better and better... GW should hire the whole team to create some content for Warhammer+
No joke, they've put out some of the best trailers for YEARS now. I still remember literally cheering at my screen during The Predator homage in the Ikit trailer.
Huge Chaos Dwarfs fan here. It's amazing to see almost literally everything from 8th ed and prior given life and form - even the stuff GW didn't bother to make miniatures for, like the K'daai Destroyer. Incredible.
I love that before the soulgrinder became a playable model in fantasy, the Chaos dwarfs where the only army who had acces to Daemon engines. It really shows the combination of dwarven engineering and chaotic magic.
Agreed, except the hellcanon tho. I allways thought about them as the creators of most chaos gear. Armors, weapons, daemon engines, siege equipment and so on. The northerens then bought it with slaves from their raids.
The Dawi Zharr are a terrifying faction, all the power of the Industrial Revolution with no morals and the pain and suffering it caused dialled up to 11.
Holy hell, the badassery meter went into red around 0:40 - but when the sardaukar inspired scene @1:05 started the meter just exploded. Never thought I'd like chaos dwarfs but this is so.... beautifully epic. Raise the icon. Load the pyres. The Father will have the spoils today, that we may be blessed tomorrow!
That scene at 1:06 - straight homage to the Sarduakar in the 2021 Dune movie. Love it! Always great when the devs at CA breath life into these less popular Fantasy factions
LMAO exactly, that shot directly referenced salusa secundus scene from Dune (2021) there's even a mini chant like the famous sardaukar throat singing! Their homage to famous scenes are always a treat to see in these trailers (just like tehenhauin & ikit's trailer mimics 10:10 predator famous scene)
0:47 I love the way the music syncs up with the massive stamp presses slamming down on the metal plates, emphasizing the brutal industrialism of the Chaos Dwarves.
I really like how similar they look to their old Warhammer rendition, especially that bright colored lord. Someone at CA really knows what made Oldhammer so awesome.
1:25 for the people who are new to the lore here, the dawi zarr like this guy become stone slowly so they change their bodies into machines,is like the mechanicus for 40k but they have a logical reason to do it and no "the flesh is weak" Pd:yeah is only one guy but as this is total Warhammer the lore is different so maybe more of them are becoming stone, now about macho man guy below I compare them because I found stupid the mechanicus sometimes and I say logical because well if I can move my body because of stone I better use machines! Than just i cut my arm because i hate my meaty body
thats mostly a trait only astragoth has, not to say other dawizharr mages will, but astragoth is known for his baby carrier others simply turn to statues, and only live half as long as he does
I HAVE WAITED FOR 10 YEARS! Ever since I heard CA got the Warhammer lisence this is all I've ever wanted to see. My old minis on my shelf in a video game, goddamn I'm so happy.
Never have I been so amazed at the sheer quantity and breathtaking dreadness of the units in a trailer. I will start this campaign the minute it is available
Been waiting 9 freaking years for them in this game. I used to have a Warhammer Citadel Catalog from 1997 when I was just a kid that I would stare at all the factions in, wishing I had real money to participate. and none more than the Chaos Dwarves. I was enthralled and in love with their huge hats and Giant Sorcerous Lammasu Monster, and their cool dreaded beards. By the time I started playing Fantasy in 07-08, it turns out they were abandoned, nothing more than a fleeting dream. Nor did I ever have the economic opportunity to get any of the Forge World stuff when that was around. The servants of Hashut may not have models, but at least I can finally play them proper in this game.
Thankfully they are giving hashut a second shake in age of sigmar, the chaos dwarves live on in the legions of azgorgh and the horns of hashut which have their own warband box fighting be'lakors legion
Holy smokes, Chaos Dwarfs being dropped from Fantasy back in the day was one of the main reasons I switched to 40k full time. This brought me right back to my childhood.
I love the fact that in each DLC we see the inspiration of different movies, Dune with the passage of the Sardaukars and Lord of the Rings when minas morgul releases his army.
@@scarletcroc3821 Part bull is on point but the Chaos Dwarfs went a different way. Bull Centaurs y'see. Also big flying bulls as mounts, bull style helmets...it's a whole lot of bull.
I think one of the most impressive parts of the trailer, and the whole dlc in fact Is how they managed to make what could've been one of the goofiest, silliest looking factions (the hats!), Somehow look one of the coolest of all!
Whoever designed the sounds of monster at the end of this trailer and the others, you are THE MONSTER yourself!! Damn it sound terrifying and fascinating at the same time. So excited to play as Chaos Dwarfs GOD DAMMIT, can't wait!!
That monster is called the k'ddai destroyer, and it's a nasty piece of work. It was going to get a model back in the day, but it never made it to production.
Incredible trailer, can we please get the music separately?? Those brass horns are sooooo good, so ominous and terrible in the best of ways. Also loving the vibe of the Chaos Dwarfs, the hellish industry and cruel brutality are perfectly displayed here
Very often in those cases, the audio is bought to an artist (or a team) specialised in that type of trailer music. They pay the right of using the music with the trailer, but not to release the track separetly :)
@@rekktdj They have been able to release trailer music before, so I figured it's worth a shot to ask haha. Alternatively, I hope someone else out there releases the music separately
@@Vesmir789 it happens sometimes, they released the Pirates Shanty you can hear in the trailer. I hope for more (the song from the laboratory trailer *__* )
the music has been in my head all day! I've finally come to the conclusion that it is the Chaos Dwarf's brass band version of "This Girl" by Kungs... loving it!
I wholey believe the TWWH series is one of the most impressive gaming franchises. So much detail, so much variety, so much choice, and so much dedication to WH fans.
I am sometimes a bit split about that. WH3 development showed the problems the engine has really glaringly, specially if you consider the bugs that get reintroduced. Also I really, really miss formations, rankfiring of gunpowder units etc., features older total war games did more thoroughly. IMHO only the modding community saves WarhammerTW, at least for long-time-playability. But these are aswesome! Also, the DLC development team are the best for saving TWWH again and again!
@@kalki9173 there's definitely some core issues with the very engine of the game and its gameplay is still kind of inaccessible and tedious for many people.
This trailer also answers how barbaric and primitive marauders can get access to the most powerful suits of armor in the world, it's made by chaos dwarves.
So it seems they're mixing both Classic and Legions of Azghor styles. Which I was expecting and hoping. This trailer is just raw so I love everything about it. Instantly pre-ordered after seeing this.
I expected chaos dwarfs concept to be something like a wow-clone (I know that Blizzard actually cloned GM), a bland, dark counterpart to the normal ones, like short chaos warriors. But this style looks far more promising and unique. I can't really pin down what it is. The helmets have a distinctive style reminding me of a "conqueror totem". The colors and armors are not just bland dark. They retain their proud dwarfish style, embodying their craftsmanship and showing organization on the level of a dynasty, while putting a pinch of demonic influence into it. Interesting for sure and not as boring as I thought it would be. ps. Since I'm going into the book anyway, I want to point out that those metallic frame legs are truly innovative, allowing them to grab for the beer on the bar-counter by themselves without the need for the waitress to bend down and give it to them.
They basically got lost in a catastrophe, their prayers were answered by silence, and in desperation to survive turned to Hashut who promised survival and knowledge in exchange for subjugation and tribute. They retain some traits of their cousins (some dialed up to a horrifying degree) while having traits unique to them.
the robot legs are because dwarves are not supposed to cast magic, it turns them slowly to stone, chaos dwarves do not care they want to burn stuff and by the dark farther they will.
Only Major unit I couldn't spot was the Siege Giant. Impressed they're getting Lammasu's straight away too, thought that would be an additional DLC unit for sure given its unique nature. Going to be a nightmare trying to balance them aside from making them as expensive af. Power Creep is real. Can't wait!
It's a good thing the only major unit not being present in the video being the siege giant, since it already exists since WH1 minus the armor and claws. Very unlikely that they didn't add it considering how easy it is to implement. Or at worst it will be an FLC similar to the Kharibdyss.
So so far I have spotted scenes from bladerunner 0:41, Dune 1:07, lord of the rings at 1:19, Godzilla vs kong (mechagodzilla) at 1:51, Im sure there are more, this is my favorite part of the total war trailers
yeah no other movies or places in real life have scenes like a commander inspecting the troops or walking out of a gate. it most be these movies that are vaguely similar.
I don't know anything about the chaos dwarfs or anything but seeing the one guy complete the huge machine at the end just gave me Elder scrolls vibes of the Dwemer completing the Numidium!
its even better than just a machine.. its a daemon engine... basically the essence and soul of a demon used to animate a mechanical body. Chaos dwarves always had those in lore, but they were never playable nor given anything but lore mentions.. until now that is!
The audio engineering on the ending roar was incredible. I have a feeling based off of the unit variety present in this trailer that this is going to be an OP faction haha
to annnounce something like this with less than a month to release is so hype, once again the DLC team coming in to absolutely carry this series. Legends
The Chaos Dwarfs were my first ever army for WHFB, then GW dropped them. that was nearly 30 years ago but this boutght me right back to when i was a kid, back in the Old GW, before they went corporate.
They need an overhaul but Dwarfs don't really discuss Chaos Dwarfs or acknowledge they exist, let alone war against them. Mentioning one to a Dwarf is a good way to get killed.
@@Spaced92 and so you don't think that if given the chance the Dwarfs would attempt to clean the stain on their honor by annihilating the Chaos Dwarfs?
The CA team that stood behind Warhammer trailers were always good with choosing the right score for the video. With this one they simply outdone themselves. It's easily on pair with the Curse of the Vampire Coast and TWW3 announcement trailers. You could literally hear... No, feel the evil industrial might of the Dawi Zharr.
I'm glad they remembered the lore about the ossification of the sorcerer caste. The magic, unsuited to be wielded by the dwarven body, eventually turns them to stone beginning with their legs and arms. That's why they have to fashion exoskeletons for themselves, until the day they finally turn into stone statues as the ultimate price for their magic power.
1:48 That roar at the end is EXACTLY how I imagine the horn of a WH40k Warlord Titan -- but it works amazingly in the fantasy context, as well. Roaring upon its awakening implies triumph or a challenge, or some other kind of complex emotion unique to 'conscious' sentient life. These things are powered by unwilling Daemons, anyway. Yet... the roar is incredibly metallic and seems to echo as it comes from the 'throat' of the K'Daai Destroyer. It comes from a large and powerful enough beast to be deafeningly loud, but the sound has the unmistakable cues that it is coming from something with very little or no organic tissue, something that isn't quite 'alive.' A blend of primal, predatory consciousness and aggression combined with the cold, unfeeling, unmalleable form of a machine... but with a disturbing sprinkle of what humans consider 'higher sentience' -- all condensed into a single terrifying blast of sound.
Looks so freaking good! I could cry of joy seeing the world of WH fantasy come alive yet again. This game is soon the most complete labor of love in the whole damn industry.
I hear the voice of Hashut calling… I hear the pounding of hammers on metal… the grinding of cogs and gears… the bellows of bulls crying out their hatred to the world… I hear these things, but above all else I hear his voice… He has but one order… One command for his chosen followers… Conquer everything. PRAISE HASHUT!!!!! PRAISE FLAME AND FORGE!!!!!! FOR THE UZKUL-DHRAZH-ZHARR!!!!!!!!!!
Plenty of us waited forever for Chaos Dwarfs in Total War Warhammer, and it goes without saying this trailer suggests everything I could have hoped for. The brass tune at the end was top tier!
