Fabulous song, one of my favourites from Toto, beautiful melody and great vibe. Once you hear it, it's in your head, I will now be humming or whistling it for the next while! Yes, guys, it is a masterpiece, and it certainly brings back memories of the 1980s for me, it was played everywhere, it actually came out in 1982. I'm pretty sure I had the single, and I also downloaded it a while back. Thanks so much for your reaction, guys, and for reacting to this fab song. Take care now and keep safe. PS another great song from Toto is Rosanna, I think you'd like that one too!
Toto were all ace studio musicians and members of Toto played on albums by Steely Dan, Boz Scaggs and Michael Jackson. Wonderful song from an incredible band!
“Rosanna”, “Georgy Porgy”, “99” are also all amazing songs from Toto to check out. Some of the best musicians of all time, performing on countless albums of the 70s, 80s, workhorses in the studio for other artists. And their harmonies are some of the best ever!
Best song Toto ever did IMO. It also gave me chills, not the first time I heard it, but EVERY time I heard it for the first year or so. I don't know what makes it such an emotional experience, but it definitely is. When I was growing up, Africa was called The Dark Continent; it was one big mystery. Over the decades we have developed so many connections to it. In fact my younger daughter was there year before last, and my older daughter is part of a group raising money to build a hospital near where her sister was. Is that a coincidence? I don't think so. Your reactions were so exactly perfect for this song.
I've heard this song for forty years and I still get goosebumps, triggers, chills and tingles. Yes Toto's masterpiece. You only get one and this is it. The song above all others. What was the Beatles one masterpiece? Good question!
Sorry, I made a big mistake, it was Triumph who did "Lay It On The Line", Toto did "Hold The Line", well, it kinda figures that I mixed it up, oh well, lol! But then, there's quite a difference between these two as well, huh? "Hold The Line" is more hard rock than "Africa" too.
In case you still hadn't heard/figured-out, there's two lead singers for this song: David Paich (the verses, lower part) and Bobby Kimball (the choruses, higher part). And it was Bobby Kimball that sang the lead on Rosanna ... and most of Toto's songs. His voice is pretty recognizable :)
We would all get together and sing this. Whenever it would come on the radio, we would stop whatever we were doing (particularly in the campus bar) and everyone would raise up their voices together. Toto is one of the finest group of artists that gathered together. Oh..........and, the big glasses were super-fashionable back then. They're coming back in popularity, apparently.
Remember when it came out and being glued to the radio waiting for it to come on. No internet to find it! If you switched the radio on and it was ending it was a bummer!
Hello brothers ! Another beautiful reaction video. I will indicate some more songs from TOTO: I'll Be Over You Lea(my favorite song) Rosanna Georgy Porgy 99 Greetings and hugs from Brazil.
I heard this song on the radio and went straight to the record store. I saw them with the Doobie Brothers and Ambrosis at Mountain Aire '80 at Angels Camp, California. I think Huey Lewis and the News was there too.
Iconic song! Such beautiful and emotional harmonies. Unforgettable. They are known for their musicianship. Guitarist Steve Lukather was touring with Ringo Starr right before the pandemic. Thanks for the reaction guys! ✌🏼
One of those songs with a chorus-line you NEVER forget. That is songwriting genius. So many wonderful memories from the time this song came out. Thanks guys!
The song is about a Christian missionary. His fiance' is flying in to ask him to come back to England to get married but he has found his meaning in life by spreading the gospel and preaching the WORD in Africa. The line "Gonna take some time to do the things we never have" is telling her, I can't leave...there is still SO much left to do. It's about his passion for the LORD and the people he's teaching. It's also based on a true store that David Paich read in a Readers Digest.
"I bless the rains down in Africa" ... "I know that I must do what's right, sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus above the Serengeti" ... "The wild dogs cry out in the night, as they grow restless longing for some solitary company" - I love the lyrics to this song, always makes me want to jump on a plane and go to Kenya on a safari!
Love so much of Toto…..but Ive heard this song just too many times. They are on tour and will be in Europe this summer. You guys should go if you can. Steve Lukather is a beast on guitar
Great song choice. I love how the guy wearing the Boston-shirt got emotional when he heard the song. It was really nice to see someone like me, who not only hears music, but also FEELS it ❤❤❤
Toto also had a big No. 2 U.S. hit with "Rosanna," which was inspired by actress Rosanna Arquette ("Pulp Fiction," "After Hours" and "Desperately Seeking Susan" with Madonna).
Hi Boys - the lead singer (David Paich) in this clip is usually the primary keyboarder, the main singer is later Steve Luckather (with guitar), the second lead singer is Bobby Kimball (the one with the brighter voice, sitting on the floor). My favorite is the gifted bass player Mike Porcaro - and what is actually true in almost every band - they say the bass player is always the most beautiful - so also here (in my opinion!) A fascinating band with talented musicians and extraordinary songs: Africa, Rosanna, Hold the Line, I`ll be over you and many more.
David Paich is an incredible and massively underrated songwriter. That said, Toto is an INCREDIBLE band! Al-around world-class musicians. Also massively underrated!
ბიჭებო🇬🇪🇬🇪 tesla love song an iron maiden fear of the dark რეაქცია გააკეთეთ და ეს კომენტარი დამიგულეთ მარტო მე გიყურებთ მგონი ქართველი 😁🤘🤘🇬🇪🇬🇪🇬🇪🇬🇪🇬🇪🇬🇪🇬🇪🇬🇪🇬🇪🇬🇪🇬🇪
Whatever year it came out, it won the "Song of the Year" award on whatever award ceremony does music. It was quite controversial . The hard core rockers felt it was too "produced". But what they did not know, if they bothered to listen to and know that the band is essentially composed of the best studio singers alive. It is miraculous.

Toto is so underrated in America. They used to fill stadiums in Europe, but I’ve seen them in the smallest venues. Where I was literally 3 feet away from them with my elbows on the stage. I’ve seen them LIVE at least 10 times. My husband and my song is Afraid of Love but I recommend I Will Remember from their Tambu album, it’s amazing ☺️
Great reaction! You should do the songs/videos - Rosanna, Georgy Porgy, I Won't Hold You Back, St. George and the Dragon, 99, Stranger in Town, and I'll Be Over You.
The best Toto song, and indeed, this is emotional beyond, I think it's the magic of the high tone in the chorus, it makes the love for Africa really hearable and thus feelable. I love how you love our music dear bros, it really gives me hope for the new generation, because if they at least can recognize quality it means the soul keeps on travelling.
Guys I have some guitar picks from ozzy and 38 special concerts.iv thought long and hard about who to give them to..I love u both but I'm crazy about george..want to send u some southern hospitality from Texas..send me ur address so I can send them.much love ....Bro Acttion..xoxo
There’s a video about the song. The members talking about it. Some band members didn’t like the song, (Africa) but that all changed when it came out, and became a hit. (Obviously)
80s drumming? Atmospheric? Catchy? so true. Great song. Now if you like drumming go back to a good Genesis tune (you picked one of their least in 'The Way We Walk'). Try some from the 70s. Maybe 'The Musical Box' or 'Cinema Show' or if you have the nerve their masterpiece 'Supper's Ready'. In all the drumming is very top level. (Think 'In The Air Tonight' level)
Another nice heartfelt reaction guys. 😊. “I’ll Be Over You” and “I Won’t Hold You Back” are two of their best ballads and two of the best ballads of the 80s. period.
The big glasses with thick frames were a style thing in 70s through 80s (ref Janis Joplin, Elton John). Late 60s-70s also tended toward itty-bitty eyeglass lenses (ref John Lennon) that barely covered the eyeball. Some of the things that I wore back then look pretty weird now, especially the 80s with the big shoulder pads, leg warmers, torn-looking blouses/tops, colored leggings, high top sneakers, etc.😳 OTOH most of the 60s-70s hippie-type styles still look mostly cool/normal to me nowadays. 😉
Hello dear brothers, Seems you guys are into all sorts of music genres...Please please react to "Patty Smyth and Don Henley - "Sometimes love just ain't enough" It's a beautiful love song..You guys might have heard about it but i would like it if you react to this timeless beautiful classic love song ..For me it's one of the most romantic and beautiful love songs of all time ..Keep reacting ..God bless..Thank you
