This has been one of my favorite songs ever for the past 38 years when it first came out. I think I was 18 years old at the time. I never get tired of listening to this song!. I can’t believe how long ago it was!
First time I heard this song I was 8 y/o (28 now). I was as at my parents friends new house for dinner and as everyone were just sittin round talkin they asked me (the hyper active one) to put on some music. After going through their huge cd collection I came across an album that said TOTO and was immediately convinced that it was songs from The Wizard of Oz. Put it on surround sound and my life has not been the same since.
You two crack me up!!! I love love how he has to sell.. about 70% of the songs to her on this channel.. its lug nut funny. I just covered this on my instagram. love TOTO.
The band is toto and the song is Africa. The song is about the lack of rain during a period in Africa which brought on starvation in that period. Toto wrote this after seeing a documentary on tv about the starvation in Africa
The 80’s were a MAGNIFICENTLY AWESOME time to be alive. Especially when you were a teenager, as I was. I genuinely feel bad for people when they say the way wish they were alive back then because it was everything everyone says it was, and more. Life was just simpler and fun and the music was simply incredible. Especially the early 80’s vS the late. Much better music in the early 80’s and pretty different.
Mentioning the hair, I have seen a few seconds segment in an add when I was 12 or so. It was an add for a compilation 4 casettes for driving a car. I have seen the add only twice ever, but since then I wanted to find that song. And all I remembered was the refrain vocal, and Mike Porcaro's hair and pose... It took me more than 20 years to find that song, and it is an absolue heart issue for me, for several reasons. I even have cups, posters and t-shirts with an africa theme, only because of this song.
Is there any chance you two can do a reaction to Everybody Wants To Rule The World by Tears for Fears from 1985. Don't worry, no synths involved in that one. This will be the record that finally makes you realise that 80s music is fantastic. Cheers.
Rosana is a far better song IMO, it's the song that won the Grammy. Toto is a collection of session and studio musicians, who notably did most of the music on Michael Jacksons Thriller, Hold the Line is another great song.
