Possibly the most beautiful song ever written, and this live version is just absolutely Amazing!! These guys are in my opinion, one of the Greatest bands of all-time!!
Steve Lukather is a beast in every way possible. One of the best guitarists in history.... bad ass composer, writer, arranger, producer, studio session musician, AND the MFer can sing. That's just one guy...the whole band was an insanely talented group. Never see those kinda chops in music today......except maybe in the jazz world.
Well, he loved a lot of the jazz and fusion guys. I love the quote "music was the *only* thing I was good at", rotflmao. He's so incredible in every facet of music. Guess he chose the right profession.
@@oskr1996 I noticed that myself and am all the more moved by the intertextuality. It's almost like a quote or maybe is. Maybe it was an accident. I find it so moving to hear one great guitarist channeling another.
Toto won six Grammys in 1983 with their IV album. This song should have been easily a number one hit. Sadly love songs are a thing of the past. Thankfully, we can still go back and reminisce how timeless love songs like this "Just can't be found...Listen to me baby, **guitar......" A timeless performance leaving no doubt Toto is in a class of their own!
Luke also won for that year for "Turn Your Love Around" and Best Pop Instrumental Performance in 2002 with Larry Carlton, which makes eight, but he claims "9" in a recent interview with Sammy Hagar. I've been trying like heck to find the last Grammy cuz I love the guy- just finished his book and I've gone full retard on TOTO music and trivia. LOL
How can you not love this Guy? He’s so amazing, so awesome! So talented, sings so perfectly, and this song, it’s so beautiful, so perfectly done the way only Luke can.. #LukatherBabeForever
Steve at his best. I dedicate to my husband, Phillip, who passed from cancer 7 weeks ago today. I miss you every second of every day baby. ~Rest in Peace... Phillip, Jeff and Mike Porcaro~
that's a huge issue today.... people are not FEELING the music they are just acting out sounds...like joke music... it feels so fake now.... THIS SONG has all the right things that keep it strong and viable in a humans heart and mind.... like you said that Guitar is gut wrenching you dont hear that today....awesome effort
This is possibly the greatest under rated song and band of the 80's, if you were alive any where near this time. If you loved and lost like most of us did, this will pull at your heart strings.
Man, it's 2018 and my 25 year old daughter is going to see them in concert tonight! I told her to wait for this song especially...it will rock her world...I then realized that I was her age when I first heard it! How is that possible?? A timeless song and one that brings back so many memories...TOTO was/is an amazing band!!
@@davidmendoza9597 I understand the point she’s making, commercial success does not equate to appreciation. By your logic people shouldn’t be saying Warrant are underrated because Uncle Tom’s Cabin, heaven and cherry pie were commercially successful. Just cos someone is successful it doesn’t mean they gain the respect they deserve... more often than not Toto are dismissed as “the Africa band” by people who aren’t super fans like you and I or music aficionados
Good God, never underestimate the value of really good backup singers. These ladies take what would have been a great live performance and push it up two more levels. Outstanding.
Steve Lukather is FUCKING AWESOME !!! From his electric guitar to his singing, he's fucking awesome. The man plays and sings with his heart and soul. He's got creditable talent above the best of them. That's my personal opinion. #TeamToto #TeamSteveLukather
YES! I was just going to post that! I used to listen to this song over and over in high school and simply cry and cry because it was so beautiful. I didn’t realize back then just how much of an impact music had on me. I only knew that I like it. Today I know that music can take away my back pain from scoliosis, my migraines, a toothache, a foul mood..... it can calm me if I’m upset or anxious. Music can also give me energy when I’m tired. Today as I listen to this song, I don’t know if I cry because of the musical/vocal beauty so much anymore as maybe the past and my youth gone. And maybe for that one I let get away........
what ive liked about lukather's voice is how he can alternate between a light whispery voice and full voice when he's doing that its heaven. steve lukather has always been able to deliver great vocal performances at no matter what age and make that guitar sing like he's done since toto formed in 77. im glad he was made lead singer in 1991 he earned that spot.
I've always thought that this era was Luke at his peak in terms of his voice. For someone who doesn't have a traditionally "amazing" voice, he just fucking nails these tunes and gives me goosebumps.
Nino Brown still sounds great to this day. on some performances he's not at his best but still sounds great. over the years his voice matured its become more deeper and huskier. I loved his voice from as soon as I heard it on georgy porgy etc.. lukather is the king of ballads he put his own stamp on them.
+Nino Brown these was indeed the peak of his voice. luke doesnt have to try to sound good. just naturally got a great voice. ive seen toto live earlier this year they brought the house down
I’m 25 now but I really appreciate songs from the past decades, 60’s to 80’s. Musics from that time are full of hearts and very remarkable up to these days. Music now a days can be easily forgotten after few months it’s been released and became popular. Old songs has has more impact to me compared to music in this generation. ❤️🙌🙌🙌.
Lukather is an amazing guitarist, singer & songwriter!! All my fave Toto songs seem to have him as lead! That babyface of his when he was younger......so hot!!
Here because this has always been one of my favorite songs. Im 31 and I grew up listening to music that my dad loved. His taste in music influenced me big time. Now he's gone so I keep this song on my playlist of dad's favorites. They connect me to him somehow. I miss you so much, papa.😢
Damn. This is so darn good. Can’t get over it. Love it. Brings me back to the 1980’s when this world wasn’t so darn cruel and folks actually cared for one another. This world is so damn cold that it’s making me cold like it. I gotta keep my composure and focus on God. God bless y’all out there.
Im a collector of vinyls and a music lover for more than 40 years. But this is one of the best things I've ever heard. Incredible. I always come back to this performance.
Brings one back to the earlier times in the late 1980’s thru early 1990’s. So so much easier back then. No pressure. Well nothing like I live with now. Less stressful back then. Oh wait. I was a young boy then. Lol. That’s life. 😊
The guitar solo is just packed with emotion. Not overly complicated or playing 400 notes per second, just hit a note..held it...slowly bend it up...transducing emotion into vibrations in the air.
michael jagger all it needed was joseph williams but was having problems with his voice. nearly asked kimball back but their label suggested they hired JMB. what a mistake toto hated him.
this is one of the most beautiful songs from Toto but I've ever heard he's got a voice like no other I also am in love with 99 that's another great song what Rolling Stone has said that Africa was one of the top hits and one of their best but I'm sorry I disagree I do not always agree with what magazines say I have a very good ear for music and I have a wide range of Music therefore I love a lot of things and I put them in my own category of my top 10 favorites this is one of them lots of love going out 2 toto😌💖
Ahhh it takes me back to my younger days - heartaches, break-ups, playing this song over and over thinking I'd never get over "that guy".. will always give me a little chill no matter how old I get :)
I so completely agree with you...that time when all your emotions were so intense, when you loved so hard and hurt just as much. Ahhhh...This song has such power...make my chest ache.
Oh honey, I was born in the 60s..this was the young adult, in the Navy, partying and falling in 🥰 and marriage..brings me right back but I will share!!!!😀😃😄
Steve’s performance of this song is sweet and utter perfection. This is by far my fave live of this song. 2:44 hits my heart so hard it almost stops it. I miss you so very much Tim We had 29 years together but life sent us on 2 separate paths to follow. Damn even our initials were TOTO My love for you is eternal.
I don't care what anyone says steve lukather is the best commercial player of all time period. The notes he plays are so melodic and pleasing to the ear.
