This video shows you How to make a Touch on Touch off switch / Sensor circuit using 555 timer IC on a breadboard. It contains the explanation of the circuit's working as well!.
For more information along with circuit diagram, visit: elonics.org/si...
You can find many other breadboard projects in this channel.
This circuit turns on and off LED lights with a simple touch of your finger. If you need to control AC Electronic and Electrical appliances like lights, Fan, AC etc. with touch, you can use modified version of this circuit by adding relay at the output.
Components Required:
You just need a breadboard and the following components to make this Touch Switch / Sensor circuit:
* 555 timer IC
* 6V DC Power Source
* 1 LED
* 270Ohm Resistor
* Breadboard Connectors
* Touch Probes
Circuit Description:
In this circuit, 555 timer is used as an operational amplifier combined with an electronic latch.
Visit this youtube channel for more 555 timer projects.

In the video, the info shows Pin4 and Pin1 are connected. It's a typo. It should be Pin 4 and Pin 8.

Nice video, you actually don't even need 2 touch wires. Just one on each side workd for me

Congratulations for the easy and precise explanations in your projects. You make hard matter become simple! I am trying but not yet suceeded in designing a displacement meter: combine the IR Proximity Sensor Circuit with the Touch ON touch OFF switch in order to get a "strip counter" --a paper strip with black and white lines attached to a moving object-- so I would know how many centimeters it displaced (order of 1 to 5cm in steps of 0.5cm or less ) The output should be an 7 segment LED display. Do you have any hint? Thank You

Can't think of any microcontroller-less circuit for the above mentioned application, as of now. Will update you if i get an idea.

My 555 got really hot. I did have the battery plugged in while building though. Should that have happened? Like I burned myself on it. And it happened within 5 seconds. (edit): I forgot resistor I will try again later

Correct. Its a typo. Pin 4 and Pin 8 should be connected to each other.

@HamzaQayyum
@HamzaQayyum 8 лет назад
Is 5v necessary, or can it be something lower?
@elonics
@elonics 8 лет назад
Minimum operating voltage of 555 timer IC is 4.5v. So the supply voltage should be greater than that.
@HamzaQayyum
@HamzaQayyum 8 лет назад

how to increase its sensitivity?
@elonics

Without the addition of any other components, this is the maximum sensitivity you can get. If you wish to further increase sensitivity, add a transistor at the input.

This type of circuit with two individual touch contacts is not much useful, instead the one with a single touch contact is very much better for use.

THE BRIDGE IS BETWEEN THE 4 AND 8..AND THE FIRST TWO PROBES ARE CONNECTED TO PINS 2 AND 3 OF THE TIMER...NOT 1 AND 2...I WAS TRYING FOR LONG T.IME TO MAKE IT WORK...I SHOULD HAVE CHECKED THE 555 PINOUT..WHERE THE TRIGGER IS ON PIN 2..ANYWAY CORRECT THE VIDEO FRIEND...OR REMOVE IT...!!!
@elonics
@elonics 6 лет назад
Please take a look at how a 555 timer works and try to understand the process, before you try to explain what you did is right. The trigger Pin SHOULD be connected to Pin1 which is ground. And regarding the TYPO that Pin 4 and Pin8 should be connected, I have pinned a comment. Thanks.
