The colored strand doesn't date the cord, it identifies the manufacturer. Each official paracord manufacturer has their own unique color signature. That way, in event of a cord failure, they know who made the cord. Good information otherwise.

Precisely, every gov/mil-approved manufacturer of mil-spec paracord has a distinctly-coded and striped core strand inside the cordage sheath. denverfan92 nailed the reason why they do this.

That's exactly right, Cameron! Thanks for sharing your insight. ALL true Mil-Spec paracord will have this identifier / tracer strand. Adam... TOUGH-GRID

You're absolutely right... if there's no stripety-stripety thing, it is DEFINITELY not Mil-Spec. Check out the Mil-C-5040H specifications and you can see all the specs on Mil-Spec cord. Notice also, 750lb Mil-Spec cord is the highest strength Mil-Spec cord. Anything stronger than that is NOT Mil-Spec. Something to keep in mind!

By the way, the "Tracer" or "Marker" strand shows what factory manufactured the cord. You can look the color codes up online to find out whether your cord was truly made in USA or not. TOUGH-GRID cord is manufactured in the USA and you can tell by the (2) Black and (1) Tan tracer strand. This manufacturer has been selling Mil-Spec cord to the United States military for over 100 years! Dang, that's a long time. ; - )

I've cut "Paracord" lines from four Military Cargo chutes and NO colored strands were found inside.

Then it was Chinese manufacture.

That's crazy, catmandont100! All of our cord has a tracer strand and is continuously certified by the U.S. Military. Very possible this batch was from another supplier. Adam... TOUGH-GRID

@@tough-grid Hi I’m from Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 and just purchased for the very first time your paracord. I got the the golden coloured one because it looks like caramel and when I see the fall of the USA 🇺🇸 stamped on it it making want to see if it’s edible 😋😜 can’t wait to test it against the cheap Chinese one I naively purchased.

@@alexandercarder2281 It's great you were able to get your hands on some of our cord! We would love to hear about and see your test results if you get a chance to post them. Have fun! Adam... TOUGH-GRID
