If this continues and Agustin Ramirez continues his hot hitting at triple A, perhaps the Yankees should consider placing Trevino on ihe IL and promoting Ramirez.

I agree that Holmes should not be closing games for the Yankees, but what isn't being discussed is that the Orioles are missing three starters from their rotation, and the Yankees didn't capitalize by facing a triple A pitcher with a near-5 ERA, making him look like a legend. Even with Judge out, they must be able to exploit the opposing team's flaws. Except for Soto and Judge, this Yankee lineup is nothing but plodding old age crap.

Joey, historically the Rockies don't make trades at the deadline. So I don't think that there is a trade with them to be made. If I am moving away from a catcher, it isn't Trevino. I think that the organization has fallen in love with Wells because of his left handed stick. Frankly, his defense isn't very good, he doesn't throw runners out. He is more likely to airmail a throw to Judge then hit the infielder at 2nd. I realize you get years of control with him and he may actually settle down and learn the position, but I don't see it happening before 2 - 3 seasons. If I am trying to trade for a catcher, I am calling Detroit and making a deal for Carson Kelly. He is a good defensive catcher, his hitting stats are better than Wells. I don't feel that the cost would be high and maybe be able to make a 1 for 1 swap, Wells for Kelly. Win, win for both sides.

Runners don't just steal on a catcher , they steal on pitchers also . If pitchers aren't throwing over to keep a runner close , of course their going to run wild . Maybe Trevino needs some arm strength work . To me the glaring piece of help we need has got to be pitching help . For the last 2 weeks or more the starters and bullpen have not been good . Yankee fans like myself have gotten spoiled again , best team , Judge and Soto , pitching is dominant , every thing going in the right way . Here we are at the halfway mark and we got it put to us by Boston and Baltimore . So everyone is in a panic . Trevino is not going anywhere , he's probably the 2nd best hitting catcher in baseball . By the way how come no one is blaming the pitchers for the stealing . Base stealers will tell you they run off the pitchers , not the catchers , if a pitcher doesn't keep runners close ,their going to run all day , not Trevino or anyone will throw a runner out if they get a big lead . While I'm at it , stop with the he's gotta go bull . We don't have a good catcher and I honestly don't know what happened to Trevino's arm because he was great last season. However, he's a lot better than Wells both offensively and framing, plus not letting the ball get by him. BUT, when are we ACTUALLY going to talk about the closer the room? No one seems to want to talk about all his blown saves or his blown close games. Instead they point to other issues going on. When are we going to admit that Holmes isn't a Closer and should not be put in these situations? I agree 100% with you. Currently the problem is not the catcher. The owner and the general manager know that the problems are the relievers. For me the other problem is Aaron Boone. He does not have the ability to decide when a pitcher change is required. And this will be the same for ever. We are not going to have the perfect team; therefore the manager have to make intelligent decissions. I recognize that Wells has not performed as maybe we expect. We trade two good catcher to San Diego and to the Mets that are better than Wells. But that history. The other two player that are not performing are Rizzo and: Lemehiu but we are tight with expensive contract. Bottom line, shake Mr. Boone to evaluate his past bad decisions and learn from them.

Trevino's positives far outweigh his inability to throw out baserunners. As far as Boone goes, he is the worst in game manager I have ever seen in over 50 games of watching baseball. He will continue to deplete his bench and bullpen early in games and this costs the team victories as you say. He has no confidence in his pitchers(further proves my point by removing Cole last night). He plays his "good ol boys" Gleyber, DJ, plays Wells way too much and he can't hit.

Jose should not be worried about. We had a catcher a few years ago... absolute gun for an arm and could hit up there with Judge.. but as a receiver.. major liability.. He's become a journeyman now.. Trevino is very good receiver.. so he struggles throwing runners out.. hell even good ones don't throw guys out that much.. I'm not worried about it... anyone who knows me and has read my comments knows how I feel about Boone... I say last night was more of the "Par for the course" game.. the Yank win in spite of this poser (really, with this team... You'd have to work to lose games... like last night).. How he often gives the guys with the hot hand a day off as a precaution. I grew up in an era where guys went 162 unless they were hurt.. so this needing a rest.. Trevino throws like Mike Piazza without the pesky 10 straight seasons of 900+ OPS. Thats the only way you could tolerate Trevino 's throwing. He combines inaccuracy with a weak arm. Trevino is career sub 650 OPS, so I'm betting, at 31, he'll end up closer to that

I dont think Trevi is going anywhere. He has too much to offer the pitching staff. He calls games better than most. Gil would not be where he is right now without Trevi. They have paired Trevi with Gil for that reason. He will make some adjustments offensively, and tweak his timing throwing guys out.

I believe if judge was there for that second game the outcome might have been different.

At best he's a backup catcher. And once we have the electronic strike zone... he's even less valuable. Additionally I'm not happy the way he would not take responsibility for the all the stolen bases off of him. And I didn't appreciate him laughing while he was pitching during the blowout either.

So many things should have been a dress during the offseason but Hals budget was killing us. Baltimore is running all over us. Dodgers put us in our place. In Boston said watch out if we make the wild card you're going to have trouble with us too. I want to see my Yankees go all the way but I think we're going to be sent home early in the playoffs. The Yankees are not currently set at the catcher position, as Trevino can not throw, whether it be injury of poor arm strength. He is not hitting badly, but he is not a disciplined hitter. Wells has a long loopy swing/upper cut, which makes him prone to strike-out and not be able to hit balls above his waist. Plus Wells can not hit curve balls or sliders. Good Fielding poor hitting catchers are a dime a dozen, finding a good fielding catcher who can also hit is difficult to find. Boone is not a good strategic manager. The Yankees also desperately need to upgrade their pullpen. Clay Holmes is not a bonafide closer, because he pitches to contact and throws sinkers. A sinker when it doesn't have a lot of movement is simply a lame-duck meatball to be smacked. Balls put in play can find a way to beat you. You need a closer who can strike out any batter.

maybe the expanded size of the bags and the increased base stealing overall is making a former Platinum Glove winner a bit nervous and he's getting the yips on his pop-up which is going to screw your delivery to second every time.

Try the pitcher trying to holding the runner on just a little ,then there’s the case of the new i mean really New first baseman. Thurman Munson batted 300 with 100 RBIs 3 years in a row. There aren’t any Munsons and Fisks out there. Trevino is a decent offensive player. Yanks let mediocre higashioka go and he’s doing ok with Padres. Slim pickings out there. I never liked Aaron Boone as manager. He got that HR to bring us into the WS. Joe Gerardi was perhaps a better card player. Torre fell asleep on the bench. Don mattingly brought dodgers to 3 first place finishes. Many unanswered questions.

I don't trust Holmes in big situations to close out games. He gives me agita. Trevino is a good catcher, but the jury is out on him. He's got a weak arm, and apparently not very accurate. Yankees can't afford to have teams running all over them all the time especially in close games. Catcher needs to be able to throw out baserunners.
