Ya know before this I was honestly considering doing the fan-made Phantasm stages as well...WAS being the key word here...We'll see how I feel once I make it to Touhou 10...but after this nonsense...hell no...
First of all to note everything about the Phantasm stage is a harder remix of the Extra stage. From the stage to mid-boss to boss herself everything to a certain degree follows the same logic as before.
The stage is the most unchanged possessing almost the same enemy placements, the primary difference is every attack is now faster. Once you get over that hurdle you'll actually learn that the primary dodging will be much easier because now enemy bullets will not linger on the screen for long. A scant silver lining I know but really you need every advantage you can get.
Ran is the mid-boss this time and attacks with almost the same pattern as Chen did before. She doesn't jump around as much now nor is as quick rather she more attempts to overwhelm you in bullet density. While this does make her attacks harder to dodge it does make her a better target.
Yukari is...something else...While the stage was very similar to the Extra stage her attacks are now at best similar to Ran's at worst completely different. The main thing to keep in mind is that despite the fact that they may look like Ran's, Yukari's attacks are NOT illusion-like at all. Everything you see is just as bad as it looks. Almost all of Yukari's attacks focus on the balance of two different attacks fired at the same time fired in different directions. You basically have to learn how to focus on one attack while trusting that you can dodge the second attack without watching it.
