Tour My La Paz Mexico Beach House (Spring 2022)

Almost Retired in Mexico

Our La Paz Beach House is soooo close to being complete. But we are headed north (and before we head north we head to our lawyer's office to move forward with "compelling our architect to complete the job.")
🍹 Subscribe to this channel: ru-vid.com...
The pool is holding water and has a great view of the city of La Paz light across the Bay of La Paz. The new paint colors are bright and friendly (did you really expect drab from me?) And things are coming together in the casita.
If you're considering retiring in Mexico, check out what life would be like south of the border. This house would probably sell for about $300,000 in 2022. We bought in 2020 for $165,000 (before everyone in the world realized they could work from anywhere in the world.) I have many videos on this channel to help you understand how much house you can afford in Mexico.
Let me know if you have any questions down below. And be sure to subscribe for future videos about moving to Mexico as an American (or Canadian.)

I think 100 degrees Fahrenheit in the pool is perfect for the colder, winter months. If it was a lap pool I’d say a bit cooler but it sounds like it’s your hot tub for winter, and possibly your plunge pool to cool off in during the summer months at some point?
@AlmostRetiredinMexico
@AlmostRetiredinMexico 2 года назад
I just need to figure out how to get it to be 100 degrees in December... Supposedly we can run the solar panels at night in the winter to cool the pool off (and the electric heater can be reserved to cool the water.)
@davebaker489
@davebaker489 2 года назад
Well in this Nova Scotian's opinion 100 F is too damn hot. Unless it's 120 plus out. Now a hot tube (again in my opinion) should be just below body temp. That way you can stay in it longer without passing out. The house and back 40 is looking gooood and when you sort out the "problems" I'm sure your place will go from good to Grrrr8 . Also have a good safe trip , to your other home.

Beautiful! Looks not unlike the back yard of East Atlanta 🙂I love the dark blue tile. Makes it look like a lagoon. The dive pool at UGA is like that. I like the yellow in the bathroom--a bit more muted than bedroom. But good color choice for Mexico. Tiger the ageless wonder!! Hot wife! Can you swim in that water at the beach? Seems like you would want the pool COLD in hot Mexico?
@AlmostRetiredinMexico
@AlmostRetiredinMexico Год назад
Chad? You're Jude999? Good to hear from you. Yes, the yard is a bit like EAV. Sadly, Tiger is no longer with us - he made it back to Oregon this summer but he wasn't gonna stick around for all of his 19th year. We cannot swim at the beach by our house. But we can walk about 10 minutes and it clears up for swimming. In December / January, it's cool in Mexico, so we need some heat in that water. ;-)

Couple more questions. Approximately how many square feet is the house? How much would a house like this cost and what are the taxes? Last is it easy to get by without Spanish?
@AlmostRetiredinMexico
@AlmostRetiredinMexico Год назад
@@philrose7716 I think it's about 1800 square feet. Today it would probably cost about $250,000 USD. Taxes are cheap: about $500USD per year. Plus $500 per year for the fideicomiso (bank trust needed when a foreigner buys property near the water of the border.) You could get by without speaking any Spanish in La Paz. Google Translate is a great tool! It's easier to get by in cities where gringos have been living for a long time: Ajijic, Cancun, Cabo, San Miguel de Allende, Puerto Vallarta, Playa del Carmen...

There are a lot of Canadians in La Paz (they have a weekly lunch together!) As to a realtor, I like BajaLife Realty (Jim / Rebecca / Ian.) Hello Brighton. Ha...I have been enjoying some of your new construction videos over the last week or so. But, I really like your house! Part mexico/part caribbean vibe! Part desert/part island flora. So many different spaces outside to kind of mix up your views and sitting spots. And....ultimately, a view to kill for over the ocean! Very nice!! Thank you for sharing this! I also really like your landscaping; as well as all of the neat colors! I really like a man that has almost as many bottles of adult beverages as they do windows; especially in a 90+ window house!! Your back 40 is fabulous too!! That space is great! With regards to pool temps, we had a redneck pool when I was in NC (a hot tub). In the summer, we'd turn the heat down to like 80degrees; and the heat of the day would have it closer to 90-95 by dinner time. Here in Ouray, CO (at 8000feet), we leave our hot tub set at 96-98 in the summer and 100 for the winter (we have a salt water system that has to be kept at >90 degrees). Safe travels!
@AlmostRetiredinMexico
@AlmostRetiredinMexico 2 года назад
It's definitely still a work in progress. As I type, there is jackhammering in the background because I've got people tearing up the tile floor to fix a broken drain line. Do all salt water systems need to stay that hot? I know nothing about those systems. And I actually love the smell of chlorine (it reminds me of childhood trips to Florida!)
@campingalan
@campingalan 2 года назад
@@AlmostRetiredinMexico My wife's skin can get a bit irritated in chlorine (it seems more for hot tubs vice pools). So, we did bromine for our hot tub in NC. I would drop the setting to 80 deg in the summer because the daily sun would bring it to over 90 deg for the evening. While using it at night, the water would cool to lower 80s. Here in CO, we keep it at 100 (we like to go in it for an hour or so then) in the winter and down to 95ish in the summer. It is currently 62 deg at 11:20am; so it is good to keep the settings in the 90s in the summer here. Yes...to my knowledge, the salt water systems do have to be kept at 90deg. There is some kind of titanium-esque rod that, when combined with the salt in the water, it makes natural chlorine. Having said that, I know people have salt water pool systems. I couldn't imagine paying to keep a pool heated above 90 degrees.
